So as had been hinted before by the game's developers, Persona 4 Arena will have at least one original character. Famitsu has revealed that one such character named Labrys, a "mecha girl" voiced by Ayana Taketasu (in the Japanese version, of course), will be introduced in the console versions of the game.
Persona 4 Arena

Persona 4 Arena is an Arc System Works-developed fighting game with an Atlus-developed story mode that serves as the official sequel to both Persona 3 and Persona 4.
New character revealed: Labrys

Here's what that Labrys character looks like.
Ehhhhhh......I really don't like her character design. Has all that silly accessorizing going on Soejima tends to avoid. I also dislike the concept of robot girls in the Persona world.

but why the school uniform? I guess until we find out how she fits into the game, we can't comment too much.
She is the Student council president.
And she looks like a BlazBlue character, not that I'm speaking from experience, but what (little) I have seen of that ilk always suggested to me that there was zero restraint in their overall character designs. Like Marie, it looks as though she has been designed by committee.

Yep, although I think the Aigis design is great, it was the one thing that felt as though it was conspicuous to me.
Why would they do that instead of the Funky Student/Fox combo that they know we want? I know I want that, at least.
I'd say Marie looks more like a Kingdom Hearts character, but yeah, blue-haired robot-girl over here really looks like she's been designed by the Blazblue people. Man.@Neurotic said:

I think Aigis is a great character design as well. Metis, too. They were just in the wrong game.

Clearly, it's because the only way that (lady?) robots in the Persona world can differentiate themselves is by their fashion accessories. Aigis has a bow/(really spiffy) tie and Metis has that visor, so a school uniform is one of the next choices under that school of thought or something. I'm personally hoping the next Persona robot wears a fedora.
I'm getting some Orpheus vibes from her. Wonder how her context in the whole story is. Granted, the whole thing is kinda silly but who ever said P4 made perfect sense, eh?
It's not that surprising to me that she looks like she was designed with a famous 2D fighting franchise in mind when she is an original character for a 2D fighting game. Personally, I think Mitsuru looks silly in her jumpsuit and cape but I'm guessing it's supposed to be over-the-top.

Get on it Atlus.
Not really into her design. I only need one robot lady in my Persona fighting game, and that's Aigis. As much as I like the idea of them giving more characters to the console version, I would of rather them explored the idea of bringing exisiting characters in. I would of rather seen Junpei really.
But oh well, i'm not mad or anything, we'll see how the character pans out. Still interesting if nothing else.
@MikeFightNight: So that the story can make any sense, we need an original character that is at the core of it. Not sure if Labrys is it, though. But apparently, she might have made her first appearance in a Persona 3 drama CD so she might not be that original after all...
Still, not sure how I feel about another robot lady, especially in the Persona 4 universe... Given that she's the student council president, I wonder if we'll see her in Persona 4: The Golden.
And I really wanted there to be an actual villain in the game, but I'm not sure if we'll be getting that anymore. It seems as though Teddie is the only real antagonist, which I think is really damn weird.
INFO
Dunno what's up with it, but Andriasang's calling her "Labyrith".
Also seems like new robot lady won't be having her own Persona. She must be using that giant axe for compensation.

No Persona? Screw that.
It's Aeris/Aerith all over again :P Wikipedia says that Labrys is an Ancient Greek double-headed axe. Given her weapon of choice, I'm inclined to believe that it's '-rys', not '-rith'.
@BigChief said:
Wait, but if she doesn't use a persona, why does she still have the cards under her health bar?
On another forum, someone suggested that it might simply be unfinished HUD elements, which is possible. If not... it might be just something weird about how she fights. Her axe is her Persona!

BTW, anyone else notice the Gekkoukan logo on Labris' left leg in those screenshots
Didn't notice it before you pointed it out, but it sure looks like it. Maybe she actually is one of those anti-Shadow weapons developed by the Kirijo corp. Or maybe she just went to Gekkoukan before Yasogami and decided to put a sticker of the logo on her leg.

I always liked the idea that there were more weapons still out there,but they pretty much debunked that theory though. Although that said, I wouldn't say that continuity is really paramount here.
The overall design is weird in so much that it doesn't even look remotely passable as a human, at least Aigis sort of did, maybe, I dunno.
Student prez' got a question to axe y'all, why don't you find her awesome? Seriously, she's the last of what I expected to be an OC/Surprise character. Girl owns.

You could make an argument that she may be a Persona. We'll see what story Atlus will give her.

I wouldn't think of that. Who's Persona would she be? And it'd be a Persona gone rogue, Strega style? Unless it was just Metis all over again, but even Metis had her own Persona.
@FluxWaveZ: Yeah, I'm probably just jumping ahead. It is the Persona universe so anything can happen as long as it involves Shadows and Personas.
@FluxWaveZ
What do you mean by Strega style? I'm not the foremost expert on P3, but I thought their Personas were normal, other than the fact they were extracted forcefully. (Also, was Shinji's natural? I can't remember other than the fact that he had trouble controlling it.)
@Starclopsofish: Since metalsnakezero was hypothesizing that Labrys could be a Persona, I was considering that if that were the case, she would be a rogue Persona similar to what the Strega members had to endure. Not quite the same as those Personae were still attached to those whom they were extracted from, but they were still doing their own thing without their 'masters' will.
@FluxWaveZ
Ah, ok. I thought maybe there were some details about how they got their Personas that I didn't know about.
Back OT... It's really... weird... that Labrys would be the President of Yasogami's student council. I mean Aigis fit pretty well into P3's futuristic urban setting, but an android feels out of place in the P4 side of the universe.
Maybe Akihiko and Mitsuru (I assume still running/ working for Kirijo) noticed similarities between the events in Tatsumi and Inaba and built a new anti-shadow weapon to investigate? I guess they would be able to pull strings to get her into the school to keep an eye on things.
The only thing I don't like about her it's her position as president of the student concil, I can kinda see how Aigis can trick the students and teachers of Gekkoukan HS (I don't know how they cover her big robot legs since I played P3P and you couldn't see the in-game models) but Labrys looks a bit over the top for people not to notice her, I mean sure P4 was just as much crazy anime as P3 was but I felt P4 was a bit more grounded in reality at least the part were they weren't doing crazy stuff like using their powers in front of people well they couldn't ... well I don't know this is just me nitpicking I don't really mind if they include more characters or new characters , but if you're gonna do a robot chick just do the robot chick.
