I've tested out a standard Hama (low chance to kill, had no Hama boost) many times on enemies weak to it, and I've never seen it miss, whereas it still had a chance to miss in previous games. While that's good while on offense, it makes it even risker to use a Persona weak to Light/Dark...

Anyone else notice this? Makes Naoto badass.

I've never seen it miss in the later SMT games if you're weak to it.

    Are you remembering right?

Pretty sure it was always like this in P3 and P4.

Heh, thought they still had a low chance to dodge in P3.

Pretty sure this is the case in P3P at least, have been dodged on numerous occasions. Been I while since I've played the PS2 version so can't really comment if that was any different.

There should be a small chance of dodging when using hama/mudo without boost, you just have been lucky so it feels like it never misses. And if the enemy is lower level than you, that might also increase the chance to hit. Although that is just a guess, I have no data to back up that statement.

I've never seen them miss anything weak to them in P4. In P3, they could still miss.

I feel like a few more enemies are weak to them in Golden though. I've been having more luck with them. Maybe I've just been using them a little more now that Yukiko learns Mudo skills (which is awesome).

Felt like it was always the same rate of hit/miss but more enemies were weak to mudo and hama than before.

I remember it missing occasionally in P3, but it's been a long time since I played that game so I could be wrong

Don't let people mislead you, Hama/Mudo could definitely miss in P3 and P4 (although I don't know know about P3P because I didn't get far).

And after 3 dungeons cleared I have never seen either skill miss when the enemy had the relevant weakness.

I could just be remembering wrong but I recall enemies avoiding Light/Darkness even when they where weak to it every once in a while and the player getting hit every time if they were weak to it.

Hama and Mudo skills could totally miss even if enemies were weak to them in P4, but it was a way smaller chance of missing. Of course, that made the times it would miss enemies that were weak to it, like when I would use Mamudoon with Beelzebub on 3 enemies weak to it and it only hits 1 or maybe even misses all of them, that much more cringe-worthy.

Hama/Mudo still have a base chance to miss like any other spell. So there's a roll for whether the spell "hits", and then a roll for whether the target dies. The confusion comes in because if either roll fails, the result is still a "miss".

To answer the OP, in P4 as long as the "hit/miss" roll passes, if the target is weak to Hama/Mudo the "instant kill" roll will always pass. In P3 against targets who were weak to Hama/Mudo the "instant kill" roll could still fail, although at a lower chance.

It figures, in P4 Hama/Mudo are more useful, but unlike P3 you have to actually use the spell to find out if the target is weak which could mean bad news if they repel it; one of the reasons I liked Naoto as a party member.

Yeah, but so sexy when your protagonist dodges while weak :P

But truthfully, the situation that Alice/Daisoujou's special abilities missing on enemies weak to them was the worst.

I think it has missed every now and again but yeah, I refuse to rock any personas with weakness to light or dark, don't want what happened to Vinny and Jeff happen to me.
