Reminders

This is my 1st Persona game and I'm about 6 hours in and I'm really enjoying it.

I was wondering (so I don't miss out), do I have to remember dates for the upcoming weather and days of clubs etc or will it just remind me what is due at the start of that day?

Any other tips you could share for getting the maximum out of this game?

Cheers

Tim.

From memory, I think it sometimes reminds you and sometimes doesn't. Could have changed in the Vita version though. It won't remind you every day on your options for how you can spend your time, but it might pop up and remind you that in a week it will be rainy for example. I could be wrong though.

To get the maximum out of the game, you should just keep a list of what you can and cannot do on each day. I never did this because I'm lazy, but it would definitely help.

After watching Jeff and Vinny play P4 for 200 something hours (I've watched the ER at least twice) and playing P3 for just under 100 hours I'm pretty sure that the best way to play these games is to play them based on what you want. At least when you're going through the game for the first time. No FAQs or anything except maybe for the school questions and the dialog options you need to choose to get the true ending for P4 when that time comes after 80 hours. So don't worry about remembering days for the clubs and shit, there's almost always something to do and you should do the S. Links that you feel are interesting. I do advice that you get at least a couple of ranks into every S. Link at some point because some of them open up other S. Links.

P4 will remind you after every school day that you need to prepare or that the rain will come shortly and since at the end of each day when it goes to the calender view to change to the next day you see the weather that's coming up you shouldn't miss that part of it unless you can't remember stuff that happened 2 minutes ago. Just don't leave it to the final day and try to get through the dungeons without wasting time. It won't remind you what clubs and activities that are only available on some days of the week are coming up but you can pretty easily check them from your S. Link menu and at some point you'll just have gut feeling for what's available during the week.

This is how I've played P3 and it's worked out great. If Jeff and Vinny got through P4 without that much trouble with some guidance from the comments (and a lot of the pieces of advice they chose to follow aren't all that great) you shouldn't really have any trouble. Just make sure you don't ruin the game for yourself by looking up too much stuff and worrying about perfecting it.

@Bishna: Thanks for that, I'm taking screen shots to help me remember. I'm terrible with names, places and dates within games, they just don't seem to stick.

thanks for the reply, I'll take each day as it comes.

I might even watch some of the videos but I'm going to view pass where I'm up to currently.

If you want to see everything your only real option is multiple playthroughs, in which case I'd say just do whatever and let the chips fall where they may. If you aren't interested in going through a 100-hour game multiple times but still want to wring everything you can out of it, there's a Max S.link guide on GameFAQs that seems pretty solid. A few quick tips:

  • Whenever you are going to try and S.link with someone, make sure you have a matching persona in your inventory. This will grant you bonus points that reduce the amount of time you have to spend with them to reach the next rank.
  • Every week make sure you buy 5 TaP Sodas from the vending machine in the Shopping District South and snag as many Dr. Salt NEO's from the vending machine in Shopping District North as you can as well. For the first half of the game these will be the cheapest way to replenish your SP while in a dungeon which is a necessity if you want to do one-day clears (which you do).
  • Make sure you check the bookstore often as many of the books there will significantly increase the growth rate of your social attributes.
  • If you can't find anything else to do on a rainy day, go to the Aiya restaurant in Shopping District North to increase 3 of your social attributes at random.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have only checked the FAQs for ex questions and the absolute last day you have to clear a dungeon. It totally blows if you forget to clear a dungeon before the fog sets in and have to go back a week in time, losing all progress made in that lost week. The game does clue you in important events but if you're like me, with Persona 4 Golden being your 1st experience with the series, it's easy to overlook the hints early in the game.

@StarvingGamer: Fortune may be available during rainy days depending on where you are in the social link.
