Woo! Alright, not much to say but excitement and speculation I suppose
one might say I have a bit of "at-lust" right now ;D
Persona 5
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Sep 15, 2016
The sixth main iteration in the long-running Persona series, Persona 5 follows a group of high school students (and a cat) who moonlight as the Phantom Thieves, out to reform society one rotten adult at a time.
Atlus team to focus on persona 5
I keep assuming they're quietly making the game, and they keep coming out with disappointing progress reports. You're killing me, Atlus.
To be released alongside Half-Life 3, right? Yeah, that joke!
Wow, they're making it sound like they're just starting. To think: the PS3 came and went without a Persona game on it. I was sure they were using Catherine as a "test" for the engine that would become Persona 5. Though maybe that's still true.
In the meantime, I'm working my way backwards through the series, which is making me realize how huge of a leap in progress Persona 3 was.
I kind of don't want the main character to have a voice, but that's probably the direction we're heading in.
The main thing I want from Persona 5 is for the main character to be more of a character(which means having a voice). I'm tired of playing has a silent protagonist. Catherine is proof enough that having a fully voiced protagonist can work well. I know that the Persona series is all about connecting yourself to the main character, but it never feels right to me. Also some cool uses with cell phones would be a plus.
At least finally something is happening.

Dude, if I could call my friends and ask them: "Are you free right now? Okay, let's meet at [specific location]", instead of running around searching for them, that would be awesome. Also, ringtones.

I'm also not a fan of silent protagonists in general. I'm not picturing my own voice coming out of a clearly-defined character that isn't me.
I'm really wondering if they could somehow make it not in school. Some other setting that allows for social interactions and clubs and stuff without being in a school of any kind. I'm not sure if thats TO FAR from what makes persona, persona, but I wouldn't mind if they could get the same feeling from social links in a different social setting.

@BirthWild: Persona is pretty damn well defined by not just the school structure, but also the self discovery of adolescence, so I'm fairly sure it'll remain in a school.
I'm very curious as to what Persona 5 is going to be, I hope they don't simply abandon the current P3 and P4 characters for a new set of characters.
If we have to go back the high school route then I'd hope for a maximum of 4 new high school characters who would then integrate with the P3 and P4 characters in an overarching story.
Ah man, I was thinking that with the rate Atlus was going I would have plenty of time to hunt down and play through P3 and P4. I still have plenty of time I suppose but I should probably play them at a leisurely pace rather than burning through both of them a few months before P5 comes out.

What? Why? Of course the story and characters will be brand-new. The most you can expect for existing characters is cameos. Persona 4 was not a sequel to Persona 3; I'm sure P5 will not be any different.

Without spoiling a lot of Arena, the P3 cast discovers the P4 cast and they join forces. I could see something like that happening, where your new P5 cast struggles with Shadows completely in the dark for the first half, and then in the second half the new P3/4 group comes and aids you to stop whatever the villain is this time.

Because they put the effort into not only integrating the P3 and P4 characters with each other in P4A, but according to Jeff, P4A's ending (which I haven't seen) leaves that universe at a point where a potential P4 and P3 character specific, new Persona RPG is possible. If P5 is exactly as you say then fair enough, but the opportunity for a Investigation Team and S.E.E.S. team-up P5 is very much there and would be awesome.

Exactly, it seems the writers have proven that they can develop the existing characters in interesting ways (especially Mitsuru), so I hope that the only reason they would do a new full high school restart with no P4 and P3 characters would be because they thought they could write a good story with fun new characters, as opposed to feeling it's a necessity to do so for P5.

This would be really awesome. I mean amazingly awesome. But it'd also be an enormous cast.

Endurance Run!?!
Great, now it's not gonna happen. Thanks a lot, dude.
Derp :(
Y'know what, I just don't understand. They claim to care about their fans, yet when their fans clamour for a specific type of content they just decide "Naw, no thanks"? Are they just trolololing us at this point? Honestly it's what brought so many people to the website and if they 're just too lazy to do it I don't even understand why they do any of it at all anymore. I used to like Giant Bomb until they just started giving the middle finger to their FANS and disrespecting them and treating them like GARBAGE. And they think they'll have my sub until the end of the year!? They'll have to prove A LOT before I'll commit to paying for this sell-out of a website again, especially after all the broken promises from when they were with Whiskey Media. I can't believe they're so dumb as to not see a golden idea when it's right in front of their stupid FACES. As a subscribing member I demand to not be treated as a second class citizen any longer. If I want an Endurance Run, I shouldn't have to not talk about it just in case I hurt the bomb-babies feelings (respond to my Formspring questions why doncha!?!) and if I'm paying for content my ideas should be taken into CONSIDERATION! This is just my opinion though, and not anybody else's.
Makes sense they'd focus on P5 what with how P4A ends.

Your wish is more than likely gonna be granted.
I think 2014 is the year. Persona 3 and 4 were almost a year apart, and apart from having the same engine they were really different games. This guys work fast. Catherine was like: "Look, this is a thing we're doing. And BOOM! HERE'S CATHERINE YOU GUYS!!!"
My question is, will it be a PS3 exclusive? I hope not. Catherine wasn't. But the remakes were, though not for PS3 but for exclusive portable platforms where you can't do multiplatform launches 'cause specs are so different. What do you think?
Any news is good news I suppose!
Wish they could give us an idea how different P5 will be like since that's most likely the question everyone is thinking. Personally I would like to see a university/college setting because I can imagine a lot more activities or different ways to interact with people.

I really, really, really, really hope not. I know the 360 is a ignored platform in Japan, and I'm aware that Catherine's PS3 version outsold the 360 version. And since P4 Arena's 360 netcode is buggy, I bet the PS3 version will once again outsell the 360 version. But that they released Catherine and Arena for the 360 is at least promising, and I'd frankly be extremely surprised if P5 was a PS3 exclusive.
Unless they go completely wacko and make it a 3DS / Vita exclusive. Oh boy oh boy...
man
isn't this, like,
the fifth time or something the Persona team has said "okay guys, now we're totally ready to go full-on P5!" When was the first time they announced they were working on P5 again? Early 2010 or something?

finally man, hopefully we get some real news from them about it at TGS
If they're at the stage of "submitting sketches" I wouldn't hold my breath for more news anytime soon...
Might be for boxart stuff, y'know. Catherine was the same way, Soejima didn't finalize it until a couple of months before release.

No... don't give them wacky ideas. I can at least borrow a PS3 to play it, but 3DS or Vita would make it impossible for me to play it.
And for Catherine, I hope they don't take the sales result to seriously. I love that game but it was an even more niche game to sell. Bizarre adventure/JRPG/puzzle game is even more niche than plain weird JRPG.
