This, I don't have a PS3.  Can't really justify buying another console for a handful of (admittedly excellent)  exclusives.

I'm sure that's the whole point?

...An Endurance Run. That's my only single wish for it.

EDIT: And for it to be a direct sequel to Persona 4. Alas, that'll never happen.

Some Persona 3 and 4 cameos, a little nod to the ER in the English localisation and extended links between social linking and combat.

Oh, and a PS3 release. I don't care about exclusivity or not; just put it out on the PS3.

#14 Posted by AltonBrown (948 posts) -
@Baillie: Don't have $300 to spend on a console for Persona 5. My roommate has a PS3, and I play his exclusives.  I don't want to play a potentially hundred hour game on a console I don't have consistent access to.

We... did this once.  Whatevs:

  1. More exploration of the psyche.  Things like the persona and the shadow are an interesting concept, and I'd like to see more Carl Jung archetypes explored.
  2. More Personae.  I want more of them.
  3. More on the Major and Minor Arcana.  I want them to be more relevant to the story, ala Persona 3, perhaps.
  4. A copacetic, overlaying theme.  Persona 3 was the Dark Hour and the moon and Persona 4 was the TV world.  I want something like that being as unique in Persona 5.
  5. Better team management possibilities.  I didn't like having to choose between teammates for which ones I was going to take in a dungeon, leaving the others behind in level and eventually abandoning them.  Perhaps they should go for more of a FFX style: switching characters mid-battle or something.
  6. More Social Link.  This is related to point 2.  I want to see more interaction possibilities, basically.  Be it phone calls, more people, more social links or whatever.
  7. Keep it long.  I don't like the trend games are adopting recently: 8-10 hour long campaigns.  I want my 70-80 hour long experience, and personally, I don't give a shit if there's 5-10 hours of set-up.  I loved the set-ups in Persona 3 and Persona 4, because I loved the stories and I'm not so impatient to immediately want gameplay when I put the disc in.
  8. More voiced dialogue.  Simple.  Also: quality voice dialogue (which both previous iterations didn't have any problem with, except for damn Fuuka).
  9. More scripted and inspired events.  Festivals and things in the previous games were always awesome.  They were kind of on the short side in Persona 4, though.  In Persona 5, I'd want these events to be fully realized, being able to go around the location as you'd please and have lots more to do in them.

A release on a system I actually own is highest on my priority.

According to the Destructoid article, they're just barely beginning to work on it, so I think we can presume it's going to be a while still before we actually see it :(

Why!?  Why the hell do people want that?  I've never understood why people want that setting with Bully or Persona!  Do you really, really think that Persona 4 would be as fun if it was a bunch of jaded adults, trying to find the identity of a criminal, entering TVs to save the world?  Do you really think that the character's would be as good as they are now and that their shadow worlds would be as appealing if they were grown-up?  Do you honestly believe that college clubs or activities would have their share of goofing off compared to the high school ones?

Look, perhaps people want to play as grown ups because they don't like being in the role of a teenage protagonist, hanging around other teenagers.  If so, there are other games you can play that are full of adults.  But how about we have a series that can have good, teenage characters for once, without changing the formula.

It needs to be a direct continuation of Persona 4.

This is the one I recall -  Persona 5 wishlist but there are several others including
Persona 5-What would you want?
I wish that on Persona 5......... and
Which past Persona characters would you like to see in P5?

Anyway, I want past references to previous Persona games including cameos and above all, if you get into a relationship with a character, I'd like for that character to treat you differently than if you weren't.  Basically, I want some sense that the way the members of the core group behave and react to each other can change depending on how you develop your social links.  Speaking of social links, I'd like it if completing one would unlock the another.  Say you complete "The Empress" for Mitsuru, well that unlocks "The Lovers" and further progresses the development of that relationship while granting access to new Persona.  Finally, I want a reason to keep in contact with fully developed social link characters.  So far, once you hit level 10, there is no reason ever to see that person again even if they've pledged their love to you.  That just doesn't feel right to me and isn't how friendships (a focal point of the game) are maintained.

Oh and bring back the evokers! :-)

I always liked how the changing of wardrobe was a big event in P4 whenever the seasons changed.
Also as awesome as full voice ating would be for the game it might prevent a ER as being as enjoyable because Jeff and Vinny wouldn't be able to talk over anything .

Also taking Persona to college or work would be a terrible for reasons that FluxWaveZ  has stated.

I just dont want Atlus to start try to appeal to us westerners because of how well P4 did over here, I still want all the weird Japanese stuff (wether it be Japanese cooking lessons or Funky students).

This. I've got a Playstation 3 and I don't care about achievements, but I find the 360 controller so much more comfortable than the PS3 one.

To come out this year or early next year, persona 4 cameos, an endurance run, and it to be on the 360.

#33 Posted by Eirikr (1006 posts) -

I'd mostly just want it to continue to be a gateway of attracting more fans to the other games in the series.

This, also I would appreciate if they would add some more depth to the combat. To be fair I haven't played P4 yet but P3's combat while fun I just found after 100 hours to be pretty repetitive and I was just going through the motions, even on boss fights which save the final boss of The Journey not a single Boss in the game gave me any sort of trouble, seriously they were all pushovers.

They need to Fix the UI. Persona 4's was an improvement from Persona 3's, but there were still many issues with it.

Also they should incorporate the social links more into the main story. By this I mean how I found it weird that even though I was dating Chie, in story scenes they didn't even mention it or even act like it was there.

#39 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -
@trophyhunter: Haha, copacetive perception, there!  I'm precisely 16.  Although, most of it was simply questions directed at you that I would want answers to.  Are you simply avoiding the fact that you have no rebuttal, or do you actually have underlying reasons to your suggestions?
#40 Posted by SirOptimusPrime (1915 posts) -

I'd like there to be another dualogy like Persona 2. What I mean by that is, bring back Baofu.

But really, just create a likeable set of characters (maybe one or two more than Persona 4) that are all useful in combat and have at least decent S. Links (as much as I like Naoto, her S. Link is terrible). Make the daytime schedule more complex, as in hour based or have more than just three segments of the day.

Oh, and Baofu and Katsuya having cameos would be pretty sweet.
#41 Posted by ooofafa (202 posts) -

social link goes to 11 and then u bang

#42 Posted by gakon (1945 posts) -

The more I think about it, the more I think maybe the college setting could work, if only for it allowing for a similar structure to the past games.  Today I take PHIL 201, then PHYS 238, do an S. Link, then go to some secret place and fight the same monsters I've been fighting since P3 using the same demons that have been around since the original Megami Tensei.

An adult setting would just be weird, especially when the themes of these games, especially Persona 4, have concerned with dealing with personal problems.  Do you want to do an S. Link scene where you're at a bar drinking with your co-worker, who's complaining about his divorce and the job he hates?  That sort of vulnerability and all the other things that characterize adolescence make the problems of P3/P4's characters interesting.  I can't see it transferring over to an older cast.

Or maybe it's just because I'm eighteen.  Legally an adult, but, you know... not really.

This is my exact problem with the idea.  I can't fathom why anyone would think that would work for a game series such as Persona when the teenage years are the years when one is "discovering him or herself", which totally benefits what these games have been trying to convey.
#44 Posted by gakon (1945 posts) -
@FluxWaveZ: Pretty much.

Some more specific demands:

- Make "Down" cause you to lose a turn and remove "Dizzy", basically reverting to the Persona 3 style.

- Make better AI for people who want to use it, either for convenience or for the challenge.

- Give party members debuff spells.  No character in Persona 4 other than the Protagonist can debuff enemies.

- Better yet, replicate Akihiko's spell list for a new character, because he's one of the best archetypes in either game.

- Create a re-roll button when fusing Personas and selecting abilities, or allow the player to select spells manually, with restrictions if necessary.

- Revert to Persona 3's "utilitarian" style of naming items.  Don't call them Pinwheels or Ice Cubes, just call them Maragi Gems, Sukukaja Gems, etc.

- Create a unified quest hub in the vein of Elizabeth's Request system.

- Record more battle dialogue.  For example, have it change every month instead of between seasons, or create dialogue that fits with the situation the characters are in.

- This a very specific and slightly useless wish, but I'd like the game to either seamlessly transition into random encounters or seamlessly transition into boss fights.  Like the Final Fantasy X motion blur effect.  Atlus was designing a system for Persona 3 which seamlessly transitioned from Tartarus to a battle scene, but it was scrapped before release.  I like that stuff.

Don't think we need to worry about adult persona settings, as i'm quiet sure it's stated many times that past a certain age, you become incapable of using personas. Then again...there's Adachi...although he's still young.

I'd prefer it on PS3, persona on a 360 controller would just not feel right to me, cause of all the time with the ps2.

No, I think that was miscommunication or a translating error, because Persona 2 has a myriad of adults using their persona. But, maybe that's just an alternate reality business with Philemon being able to grant them their persona...but then the JOKER...agh, convoluted.

This was established in the Trinity Soul anime I believe, and it was Nich Maragos (Atlus USA translator) who said that shouldn't be considered "canon".

I'm pretty sure I touched on this in the P5 wish list, but I'll re-state (and expand on) my idea here.

Instead of shuffling skills, they should make it so that the player can choose the skills they want to add via a capacity system.  For example, let's say for each Persona, you can only have, say, 6 points to add the skills you want.  If you're going to add skills to Jack Frost, you know that he has an affinity for ice magic.  Now, let's say that you have these skills that you want Jack Frost to learn: Bufudyne, Mahama, Tarukaja, Agi, and Diarama.  You have to spend points to learn skills, with each skill costing 1  to 3 points.  If a Persona has an affinity for certain spells, then that spell will cost 1 point.  If a spell would take a long time for a Persona to master, then it costs 3 points.  Otherwise, the skill costs 2 points.  Taking the above skills in my example, here's what the skill costs would look like:
  • Bufudyne: 1 point
  • Mahama: 3 points
  • Tarukaja: 2 points
  • Agi: can't learn it
  • Diarama: 2 points
Looking at the above, Bufudyne is the easiest to learn, while Mahama is the hardest.  Basically, with my idea, you eliminate the tedious shuffling, but at the same time, you have to think about what skills you want to put on your Persona while making sure you have the capacity to do so.
