Persona 5 Rumors PS3 Exclusive

Well, of course the existence of a Persona 5 is inevitable, and it was pretty much expected as it being a PS3 game.  The only real question is: when will it be released?  I'm expecting a 2010 release and it being officially announced in 2009.  There was a couple of years seperating the release dates of Persona 3 and Persona 4 and therefore that would be in line with the trend.

I hope this is not fake. I want Persona 5 as soon as possible !

Their going to announce persona5 when the endurance run finishes

I hope its not PS3 exclusive though

I'd like a PS3 or 360 release over a Wii one basically because it would be graphically prettier, however, I am inclined to think that Atlus would rather put it on the Wii because of the install basis and because it would be cheaper to develop.  Either that or the PSP which is popular in Japan and was the system that the recent Persona (1 remake) appears.

Maybe with TGS, we'll get some hard facts to replace all the fan-dreamed up rumors and conjecture.

Or maybe this is all about a Shin Megami Tensei: Persona pachinko game that will hit game parlors this fall.

im guessing its going to be a ps3, ps2, or wii game. i don't think it will be a 360 because its mainly Japanese title but you never know (like star ocean 4). i would prefer it to be a ps3 title. i doubt its going to be a multiplatform title because i doubt atlus has enough $ to do it and if it is it would probable be ps2+ ____

Well, I can't imagine a release anytime before Q4 2010 if this rumour has a shread of truth, unless it's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5: Strange Journey.

As for the console it will appear on, looking at Atlus' history the PS3 definitely seems the most likely choice if it's to appear on a current gen console, and if thats the case they may port it to the 360 to reach a wider install base but I wouldn't get myself too worked up for that.

Q4 seems a bit late.  My guess is Q2.  Persona 4 was a great success for Atlus as the most successful game that they've made (or something like that) so I'm guessing it's been in development for a while, perhaps alongside Persona 4.

Even if this is true, the era of real (permanent) exclusives is dead.

#12 Posted by Nasar7 (2678 posts) -
@shadows_kill: Well Atlus put P3/P4 on PS2 because of lower development costs and larger install base. The most PS2-like console this gen would be the Wii but ehhh... So I'm hoping its 360/PS3.

Yeah, they also may be influenced by Square putting Dragon Quest X as a Wii exclusive.

Hooray for the Wii!

What appears to be an accidental announcement from a pachinko industry publication holds that “a consumer announcement of PS3 exclusive Persona 5 is scheduled.”

The mention is slipped in with the industry announcement surrounding a Megami Tensei themed pachinko machine, so it seems unlikely to be an outright fabrication, though of course it could be genuinely mistaken, and it will almost certainly turn out to be “mistaken” and quietly excised.

Still, that the new Persona game will be initially released on the PS3 seems virtually a given considering the platform history of the Megami Tensei series, so this news is none too shocking, though certainly timely after the disappointing lack of a next generation Persona 4.

So the Wii would also be fine with you?  That logic is messed up.

@FluxWaveZ: all im saying is the 360 doesnt really have the reputation for this kinda thing. The PS3 is known for its Japanse flavored games.

360 doesn't have the reputation?  There are vastly more JRPG's on the 360 than on the PS3.

Ditto, the PS2 was the go-to console for JRPGs (kinda still is) but there are way more JRPGs on the 360 than on the PS3.

If P5 is exclusive, it won't be because they wanted to. It'll be because they needed to. I'm pretty sure those guys aren't at a budget where they can say, "Hey let's spend money on as many systems as possible!"

There's nothing 'fantasy' about the High School setting and if it were trying to simulate, it would be a lot more boring than it is.

I don't buy this for a second, mostly because the rumors for a while have been that Persona is going to hibernate for a while because Atlus R&D is going to work on SMT4.

#31 Posted by FCKSNAP (2299 posts) -
@FluxWaveZ: Well, it was a take on the "high-school simulators" that are so popular in japan. Like Konami's Tokimeki Memorial series; adding "fantasy" as a way of saying "look, this is an RPG too".
#32 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19342 posts) -
@Snapstacle: I'd think it's an RPG with High School elements added and not a High School simulator with RPG elements added.
#33 Posted by LiquidPrince (15949 posts) -

I would be be happy if it is exclusive because that would just be one more great game added to the PS3 camp, but I wouldn't mind if it came out on the 360 either since I own both consoles and could play it either way.

CONFIRMED

@FluxWaveZ: I never said I thought of it that way. It was how Atlus billed it as when it was originally created.

Oh really?  I guess I wasn't paying attention when you said that's what Atlus said.

And Fallen189 is referring to the sankaku site, not Giant Bomb.
#38 Posted by metalsnakezero (2296 posts) -

Well the best thing we can hope for is that it'll come out soon. I don't really care if it came out on both consoles I just want the game. However, they never really made any good games on the 360 or the old xbox
Xbox

From the looks of their past releases I say they'll stick to Sony and Nintendo platforms.

They'd better, because I really think the Persona series needs a break. I'm getting tired of all these sites throwing out Persona 5 speculation to get page views. After releasing four Persona games over the course of three years, I would think Atlus would want to give it a break too.

Well, the Persona series' popularity is at its peak at before the hype dies down, Atlus would have to announce stuff about Persona 5 and release it as soon as possible to attain their maximum profit.
