I really wonder how the personas will be worked in for the protagonists. They could have it Arcanna Heart style but that would only make sense for them, they are probably just gonna have their starter.
Persona
Depicting occult practices, fey heroes, and demons crawling out of the woodwork, Persona is Atlus' largest, most successful, and most acclaimed franchise. Beginning as a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, the series developed a sizable following in the West after Persona 3, and expanded into non-JRPG genres after Persona 4.
Persona Series Takes Next Logical Step: A Fighting Game
I have long believed a Persona fighting game would be rad. And I don't even like fighting games.
Also, they're just starting on Persona 5?! Tonight, I weep.
That might just be shoddy translation work. They said they started P5 almost a year and a half ago.I have long believed a Persona fighting game would be rad. And I don't even like fighting games.

Then again, with how well realized the style in Persona games are, and how budget concious they're made, I think they spend a gargantuan amount of time in pre-production.
The translation from japanese could make it be either really. There is no one-to-one translation necessary and the specific cues we hear different in Marie and Mary are very difficult to get across in Katakana. I don't think the actual English name will be solidified until release.@Joeyoe31 said:
The new character is named Marie. Jesus get your shit together Klepek.Hm? That's not what it says on Andriasang. Probably multiple translations floating around.

Yeah. I'm guessing (s)he might not show up in this game. One silent protagonist would probably be enough.

I mean, look at it this way:
- Teddie would never be the type to just go: "Man, I wish my friends would fight against themselves more often. I've gotten a recent taste for violence, so I'll just organize this fighting tournament."
- P4 protagonist goes back to America in the end. It'd be unlikely he'd end up in Japan again only 2 months after he left.
@FluxWaveZ said:I always presumed he was American (doesn't Dojima say something to that effect, in reference to his sister at one point?), but I don't believe he lives in Japan so wherever he went to, he wouldn't be back only 2 months afterwards.? No he doesn't! At least not according to anything canonical.

No. The protagonist is Japanese. The reason he went to live with Dojima is because his parents went overseas for a year.
Arc System makes some cool fighters, so this is actually cool news.
As for Persona 5, I do not expect it anytime soon. Atlus recently got restructured (the parent company absorbed what they could and will continue to use the name, but still - there have been serious changes there and that never helps development), and they're a relatively small developer anyway. If it took 'em that long to make basically Lode Runner 64 in Catherine, than I don't even wanna think about how long it'll take 'em to make an RPG like Persona 3 with visuals appropriate for an HD era game.
Some Japanese developers - CyberConnect 2, Platinum, Capcom - seem to have gotten the hang of producing games for this generation of consoles. Others have struggled to move beyond PS2-game making techniques and pipelines. Atlus is definitely one of the ones hurting to change, though at least they haven't gone running back to the PSP and DS like some, unfortunately, have chosen to do.
No one cares; we're too busy fighting over who gets to be Chie. I still can't believe anyone would pick P3 characters over P4 characters.Let it be known here and now:

Frankly, I'm kinda surprised. I guess the titular personae will make for interesting fights, but I don't really come to Persona for fighting; if anything had to go, I would be much more in favor of a purely narrative "guided experience" than a gameplay-heavy game sans story. Sure, fighting games purport to have story, but honestly, they don't.

@Hailinel: @mutha3: Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I misremembered. Well, I guess it does make sense that "Souji" would visit Inaba again that early, then. But that still doesn't explain Teddie's newfound bloodlust!
Can any of the weirder shit that Teddie does fall in the realm of the explainable?
