Persona
Depicting occult practices, fey heroes, and demons crawling out of the woodwork, Persona is Atlus' largest, most successful, and most acclaimed franchise. Beginning as a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, the series developed a sizable following in the West after Persona 3, and expanded into non-JRPG genres after Persona 4.
Persona Series Takes Next Logical Step: A Fighting Game

Arc System makes some cool fighters, so this is actually cool news.
As for Persona 5, I do not expect it anytime soon. Atlus recently got restructured (the parent company absorbed what they could and will continue to use the name, but still - there have been serious changes there and that never helps development), and they're a relatively small developer anyway. If it took 'em that long to make basically Lode Runner 64 in Catherine, than I don't even wanna think about how long it'll take 'em to make an RPG like Persona 3 with visuals appropriate for an HD era game. Some Japanese developers - CyberConnect 2, Platinum, Capcom - seem to have gotten the hang of producing games for this generation of consoles. Others have struggled to move beyond PS2-game making techniques and pipelines. Atlus is definitely one of the ones hurting to change, though at least they haven't gone running back to the PSP and DS like some, unfortunately, have chosen to do.
You really don't get it.
Atlus developed Catherine to dip their toes into PS3/360 development, and it didn't take nearly as long to develop as you seem to think. Much less your foolish comparison of the game to Lode Runner 64.
Sure! Dude's a shadow. So, my prediction, is that Teddie makes believe he has some positive reason for organising a tournament like that and, in the end, it turns out his evil self had taken him over right from the very beginning and he reveals his master plan to the characters and the true reason he had organised the P-1 Grand Prix. Then you fight him.@FluxWaveZ said:
@Hailinel: @mutha3: Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I misremembered. Well, I guess it does make sense that "Souji" would visit Inaba again that early, then. But that still doesn't explain Teddie's newfound bloodlust!
Can any of the weirder shit that Teddie does fall in the realm of the explainable?
@CH3BURASHKA: I like both the Persona 3 and 4 characters. I do prefer more of the Persona 4 characters, well bascially the entire Persona 4 cast, but some of the Persona 3 characters really stuck with me like Shinji, Akihiko and Yukari.
Here's a translation of the article at http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/ as translated by, uh, me. Feel free to correct any mistakes I've made. :)
"Last week, the discount version of Persona 3 was released and, starting in October, the animated series will provide new insight into the Persona series. Oh man, what do I do? I'm only about 10 hours into P4, should I stop now and wait till The Golden or keep going? First world problems, man!
That is tough... I say beat the game you started. You get to see the classic in it's original form. Plus when you do play it on Vita you'll notice all the updates and additions to the game. You might be saying why would I want to play through it again? Well I went through the same scenario when they released Persona 3 Portable but I found the female main character, updated battle system and just general additions to be great and worth a purchase. You'd be surprised how well the Persona battle system translates to a handheld RPG.

Chidori has more pathos in her little finger than the entire cast of P4 combined. Don't get me wrong, I'd agree that P4 is a stronger as an RPG, but not everyone is going to join the Gerstmann-wagon for a character as vapid as Chie.
OH SHIT IT'S ON NOW BOYS!
Unsurprising to say the least. Persona 4 Portable (yes, it's not called that. But still.) will be a slightly updated version of a game we already own. Doesn't this echo Square Enix at some point? I mean, they haven't gotten that far yet, but it's only a matter of time before we start seeing a situation that mirrors the constant re-releasing of Final Fantasy IV on every platform imaginable every 18 months.
This fighting game however... yes please. If I can murder Fuuka or maybe Ken as any member of the persona 4 cast, this will be a fighting game well made.

I loved certain characters in Persona 3, in some ways more than Persona 4 although I do like Persona 4 as a whole more, but I hated Chidori and Junpei for that matter. I would take Fuuka over Chidori any day... yeah I said it.
Speaking of Fuuka... I bet her, Teddie and/or Rise will be the announcer types.I loved certain characters in Persona 3, in some ways more than Persona 4 although I do like Persona 4 as a whole more, but I hated Chidori and Junpei for that matter. P4P on Vita makes sense to me. Atlus has traditionally pushed ports on Sony's portables (Persona 1-3), while Nintendo gets the new games in the series (Strange Journey, Devil Survivor).
Looking forward to playing through P4P again tho, loved that game. Also, here's hoping the 3DS gets a new SMT announcement soon.

Not really. The PS2 has pretty much the entirety o Atlus' legacy and P5 will almost assurdly be a PS3 title. On top of that, the reason the Persona games-- their biggest series-- was ported to the PSP was because they felt their market was stronger on there than the DS.P4P on Vita makes sense to me. Lo and behold-- P1P and P3P were huge hits.
So what´s up with Persona3DS then? is that a new game I don´t think Atlus is down to port Persona 3 again , Im kinda curious now that I know about this, still conflicted about Persona 4 portable (whatever Im calling it that) I don´t want a damn Vita but I´ll probably buy one just for this game

@mutha3: Mate, I said Sony's portable platform got the ports, not the PS1/2/3.
DS got all the interesting portable titles. Nothing against more Persona, but Nintendo was the way to go for new, portable SMT experiences. And this wasn't meant as an attack on the PSP/Vita.
@AngelN7 said:Good news for me since 3DS's are region locked. Plus don't the carts have pretty low storage capacity? Would be a bit lame if they had to cut content for a 3DS version like P3P. Fighting game definitely has potential as well, being by Arc and all. Exciting times for Atlus fans.
What? WHAT? Persona fighting game? I guess that's kinda cool, but I don't know how much I'll actually enj- FROM ARC SYSTEM WORKS? As well as what I wanted/expected to happen eventually: a portable version of Persona 4?
It's like I'm having a Persona wet dream. Just shut up and take my money, guys.
@mutha3: And this wasn't meant as an attack on the PSP/Vita.
No foul, I really really don't about stuff like that either way.
I'm just saying that there were clear financial reasons why the DS got new SMT and the PSP got Persona ports-- and I think you'll find now that they've run out of games to remake, I highly doubt this trend will continue.
@mutha3: I agree! With Devil Survivor and the Persona series now out of the way, I'm hoping Atlus' portable games -- for 3DS and Vita -- will be full of new titles.
@FluxWaveZ said:You know what you´re right other than that Persona 3DS game there wasn´t really anything (for me) to take interest in a 3DS and I was totally bummed about the cuts they had to do to make Persona 3 fit on the PSP , so if this port has just as much and more content than Persona 4 Im all for it , the fighting game sounds like it could be fun (if the desings are not made by Arc) and Persona 5 is now green light for development I´ll wait they gave us enough to be exited@AngelN7 said:Good news for me since 3DS's are region locked. I was going to get a Vita anyways so I'll definitely be picking this up since I missed out on the PS2 release of this game.

I'm pretty sure that the 3DS carts are 8 gigs or something, which leaves ample room for pretty much any game, considering the resolution that the games are played at.
I think it says a lot when the thing that I found most unusual about all this is that a game is releasing in arcades first.
