So Peter Molyneux is edging closer to becoming the insane bond villain of the gaming industry. This sounds exactly like a Peter Molydeux idea, maybe they were the same person all along.

Is that whole article a joke? It has to be a joke, right? The Once and Future Molyneux can't really have been reduced to this nonsense.
 
As a critique of shitty game design, I get it (Cow Clicker basically made the same point already: people are fucking idiots), but as an old fan of Molyneux, I was hoping he would stop wasting his time and his talent.

I would pay $77,000 if the cube contained Peter Molyneux's liver-spotted balls. Well if I had an extra $77,000 I could just throw away like that anyway.

Its not a game, but an experiment into humans.

the only possible reward i think seems worthy is that Molyneux gives the last person to reveal what's inside, all of the money that was put in to uncover it, sort of like a lottery.  

How awful would it be if you bought that chisel, and then didn't get to be the person who sees what's inside the cube?

The comments on that article seem to miss the point.

A lot of people saying he's doing it purely for money, hence why the diamond chisel is £50,000. If it was purely for money, then there'd be more than one of them, and the amount for it would still be 'crazy', but also a lot less, something like £500. There'd also be more types of chisel with prices between 99p and £500.

That's how I'd do it at least.

This could be very a clever way to reveal some new project. Alternately it could be a great joke if it contained his balls.

But yeah, I can understand what the point of this project is. Whoever manages to open the box will have a hell of a time confirming he's legit when he's posting it online.

Genius. I'm glad Molyneux got out out Microsoft's clutches and can just do crazy shit like this.

@Jack266 : If it were me that landed the last chiseling blow I wouldn't tell anyone. I'd hold onto it and watch the reactions as the internet slowly went insane trying to get information and other people started making up shit about what they got out of it.

It would be cool if loads of people cracked it open and they all see different things leading to people trying to prove that everyone else is lying and that they saw what was truly in the box

I can't wait to open it and never tell anybody what it was.

Using a chisel is more fun than playing Fable so whatevs.

I'm hoping that some random person who doesn't really know what they're doing manages to break open the box and doesn't share the information with anybody.

This is amazing. I see this and think of people like Freud studying people's minds to better understand the human psyche, I hope he learns some interesting information and shares it (e.g. information about clicking habits, how long people clicked, how frequently, if people got more and more addicted and increased their clicks per day, this is extremely interesting to me.)

This is brilliant. It's not a game meant to be fun really, but a look into the psychological aspects of curiosity in a consumer society. It's like a commentary on pay-to-get-ahead models in free to play games. Sure, you can pay a ton of money to get to the end faster, but is it worth it?

I just read up on Cow Clicker and now I'm really sad.

Anyway, there will be nothing in the box, but disappointment.
