Fry is the lovable, anachronistic, main character in the animated series Futurama. He was cryogenically frozen while on a pizza delivery on New Year's Eve 1999. He was unfrozen on New Year's Eve 2999 and became a delivery boy for his great nephew Professor Hubert Farnsworth's small delivery business, Planet Express. Now he occasionally goes on missions with his friends and co-workers Leela and Bender, but business is slow so he spends most of his time watching TV and drinking Slurm. Fry is generally lazy and unintelligent, even by 20th century standards. He takes pride in the fact that he was able to drop out of college in the 30th century after discovering that dropping out in the 20th century only gave him as much education as a high school dropout in the year 3000.
Fry lives in an apartment with Bender. Technically Fry's room is actually Bender's closet, at least according to Bender. In actuality though the "closet" is much larger than Bender's room and even has it's own separate rooms. Fry and Bender share a deep bond, even though Bender abuses him and occasionally displays a desire to wipe out humanity. Bender implies that Fry might be the only human he would spare if he ever got the chance to actually kill all humans.
Fry shows little initiative or desire to move ahead in life unless it means an opportunity to impress a member of the opposite sex, usually Leela. While he reminds her constantly of his feelings for her and sometimes go to great lengths to impress her, she only shows fleeting signs of affection in return. They were briefly married once. However, since time was skipping ahead randomly at that point and nobody was able to remember what had happened between the skips in time, she quickly divorced him. He was also briefly romantically engaged with co-worker Amy Wong, although he broke up with her and wound up with his head sewn onto her shoulder almost immediately afterwards.
Fry has a strong interest in video games, having spent much of his adolescence playing them instead of dating. However, he seems to be very poor at playing them, claiming for instance that he was never able to destroy the last alien in Space Invaders and always had to get his older brother to do it for him.
In high school Fry suffered three heart attacks after drinking 100 cans of Cola.
The creator of Futurama Matt Groening gave the name ''Philip'' to Fry as an homage to Phil Hartman,who was intended to give the voice to Zap Brannigan,before being murdered in 1998 at the ago of 50.The ''J'' in Fry's name is a tribute to J Troplong ''Jay'' Ward the famous creator of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.
Fry's entire outfit is based on an outfit that James Deen wore in the movie ''Rebel withou a Cause''.That outfit includes a red jacked,blue jeans and a white t-shirt that Fry rarely takes off.
The actor Billy West gives his voice to Fry and several other characters from Futurama including Dr. Zoidberg.
