Photo Dojo Makes Me A Murderer

It's not the most complicated fighting action in the world, but Photo Dojo for DSi is a pretty cool little toy. The premise is that you can take pictures of yourself, or your friends... or maybe even your cat... and place them into a side-scrolling brawler. You'll take photos for the game's different frames, such as a kick, a punch, a fireball motion, the actual image of your projectile, and so on. The animation is, well, incredibly crude. And you're really just sort of placing photos into preset shapes, so it's not like your body shape is building hitboxes or anything complicated like that.

But that's not the point. It's meant to be goofy fun. The controls are also incredibly simple, using one button and the D pad for most moves. So hitting back and a button will toss fireballs, down and a button does another special move, forward and the button punches, and so on.

Going through the fighter creation process was one of the first things I did at Nintendo's event yesterday. Since you can create multiple fighters and store them, I remained on the cart for awhile. Or at least long enough to apparently murder Destructoid's Dale North, as piloted by Nick Chester.

UPDATE:
Brian Ekberg beat me up. Just like I always knew he would.

#5 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19388 posts) -

This technology should be put into the next Super Smash Bros.

#6 Posted by gia (39 posts) -
@FluxWaveZ: You are my new favorite.
#7 Posted by Codeacious (960 posts) -

That actually looks like it'd be fun, at least for a while. I'm sure people could have fun just making ridiculous sounds alone.

"DAMN YOU GIANT BOMB."

Classic.

Awesome, I suppose... (was my idea that great?)

Man, that actually looks like it could be fun, if you have a bunch of silly friends who have stupid catchphrases and stuff like me.

#14 Posted by ArbitraryWater (12129 posts) -

Damn you giant bomb!

#15 Posted by august (3866 posts) -

That's the second biggest Jeff Gerstmann I've ever seen!

#16 Posted by S0ndor (2716 posts) -

Haha nice.

#17 Posted by Hot_Karl (3309 posts) -

Oh, wait, it's a retail cart? I thought it was DSiware!

I'm a teeny bit less excited now, seeing as I thought this was a $10 download instead of a $30 purchase, but it still looks pretty neat. I'm sure I'll have fun putting lady friends and duders as boss characters or something.

But if you buy the game you won't have a giant Jeff Gerstmann to murder you... :'-(

@VinceNotVance: It's a DSiWare title. It goes for $2 in Japan.
#21 Posted by Hot_Karl (3309 posts) -
@gohangvo: Seriously? I could've sworn someone mentioned that it was a cart.

Ok, then color me interested. And by that I mean first-day download, because the game sounds so ridiculous that I'll have to pick it up.

This looks hilarious. I would pay cash money to play a fighting game starring Giant Bomb's crew.

This could be super fun with friends.

#24 Posted by AURON570 (1677 posts) -

#25 Posted by Rinkalicous (1340 posts) -

If only it were possible to download other peoples. Getting my ass kicked by Jeff Gerstmann would be the proudest moment of my life.

#26 Posted by Sarumarine (2306 posts) -

That was awesome. "Damn you Giant Bomb!"

Brad, Vinny, Dave, and Drew can be part of the quirky miniboss squad. Ryan can be the impossible bonus boss.

#33 Posted by ImperiousRix (2963 posts) -

When does this come out!?  I wants it today!

#34 Posted by MarkWahlberg (4610 posts) -

Yet another example of why a Giantbomb sidescrolling game is a must.

#35 Posted by ajamafalous (12162 posts) -

I haven't seen a Jeff Gerstmann that big since that dream I had two nights ago.

#36 Posted by FunExplosions (5407 posts) -

I like how the game decided to make Jeff the giant badass dude. Pretty funny.

#37 Posted by King9999 (615 posts) -

...So many things are going to go wrong with this.

#38 Posted by masterherocard (419 posts) -

You know,

I wonder if we put up pictures of ourselves or others on the internet if we are able to take pictures of THEM and use them.

#39 Posted by Wright (637 posts) -

I thought Jeff was already a murderer.

#40 Posted by Beforet (2934 posts) -

#43 Posted by animateria (3265 posts) -

They need to release this game with the Giantbomb crew preloaded!

Or maybe Giant Bomb should sell DSi's preloaded with this game preloaded with the GIantbomb crew!

A Black DSi with a Luchadeer logo!  I'd kill a Giant Gurstmann (TM) for that!
