    Overview

    No Caption Provided

Piantas are an island race of beings in the Mario universe of games. Piantas were originally seen in Super Mario Sunshine, but later appeared in many other Mario games. They largely inhabit Isle Delfino, the main locale in Super Mario Sunshine, and are found in many of the surrounding areas. They are generally of calm temperament, although bouncing on their heads too much incites rage. Almost all Piantas are friendly and docile creatures, although they can be opponents in some of Mario's many spin-offs.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the Piantas serve as inhabitants of Isle Delfino. Their home is actually Pianta Village, a town nestled in tree branches high above Isle Delfino, although they are commonly found in all of the island's locations. All Piantas can be talked to, and a few even serve gameplay purposes (many stronger Piantas can throw Mario up to previously unreachable locations).

The Piantas' most major appearance aside from Super Mario Sunshine. In The Thousand-Year Door, a few Piantas form the Pianta Syndicate, a criminal organization in Rogueport. Headed by Don Pianta, this organization rivals another gang in Rogueport, the Robbo Gang (consisting mostly of Craws, another species in the Mario universe). The Pianta Syndicate also manages the Pianta Parlor, a casino filled with minigame-based machines.

    As playable characters

There have only been a few games which feature Piantas as playable characters. They are used as team members in both Mario Superstar Baseball and Mario Super Sluggers.

    In the crowd

Piantas have been longtime members of crowds in Mario spin-off games, such as Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Power Tennis, Super Mario Strikers, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
