Pikachu
is an electric-type mouse Pokémon, and is considered to be the mascot of the Pokémon franchise. His name comes from "pikapika" which means sparkle, and "chuchu" which is the sound mice make. Pikachu's popularity was established when he became Ash's starting Pokémon in the anime series of the same name.  Pikachu is one of the original 150 Pokémon seen in Pokémon Red and Blue, and is also the starting Pokémon in the Yellow Version.  According to the National Pokédex, Pikachu is #25.  In addition to electric abilities, Pikachu also has a high-level of agility and speed.  Pikachu is best known for its cute mouse appearance, its red cheeks, long ears, and tail shaped like a thunder-bolt.  Pikachu is small enough to sit on top of the head of a human.

With the use of a Thunderstone, Pikachu can evolve to Raichu at any level.  However, in the Yellow Version, Pikachu will refuse to evolve into Raichu, even if you try to use a Thunderstone (Unless you trade your Pikachu to another version).  In the Gold and Silver Version, it was discovered that Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, which evolves into Pikachu when it is happy and loves its trainer.

Pokédex Entries

Each version of Pokémon has a different entry that descirbes Pikachu

Generation I

  • Red and Blue Version: When several of these Pokémon gather, their electricity could build and cause lightning storms.
  • Yellow Version: It keeps its tail raised to monitor its surroundings. If you yank its tail, it will try to bite you.

Generation II

  • Gold Version: This intelligent Pokémon roasts hard berries with electricity to make them tender enough to eat.
  • Silver Version: It raises its tail to check its surroundings. The tail is sometimes struck by lightning in this pose.
  • Crystal Version: When it is angered, it immediately discharges the energy stored in the pouches in its cheeks.

Generation III

  • Ruby Version: Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt of electricity. If you come across a blackened berry, it's evidence that this Pokémon mistook the intensity of its charge.
  • Sapphire Version: This Pokémon has electricity-storing pouches on its cheeks. These appear to become electrically charged during the night while Pikachu sleeps. It occasionally discharges electricity when it is dozy after waking up.
  • Emerald Version: It stores electricity in the electric sacs on its cheeks. When it releases pent-up energy in a burst, the electric power is equal to a lightning bolt.
  • FireRed Version: It has small electric sacs on both its cheeks. If threatened, it looses electric charges from the sacs.
  • Leaf Green Version: When several of these Pokémon gather, their electricity could build and cause lightning storms.

Generation IV

  • Diamond Version: It lives in forests with others. It stores electricity in the pouches on its cheeks.
  • Pearl Version: If it looses crackling power from the electrical pouches on its cheeks, it is being wary.
