The iOS release of Key’s kinetic novel planetarian – Dream of Little Star - now includes an official English translation with its latest update. It is available for 3.99 USD in the Books section of the US App Store and comes in a 144MB download. It is also available for 350 JPY, 2.49 GBP, 3.99 CAD, 3.59 EUR and 4.98 SGD in App Stores for other countries. The app is a universal app, with the text on the iPad version taking up much less screen real estate, obscuring less of the art. The English translation reads fairly well, although it is quite different from insani’s unofficial translation.
The iOS version of planetarian was originally released in November 30, 2011, being a conversion of the April 30, 2010 Memorial Edition release. It received an update last March, and its most recent update from January 7 adds English support as well as the ability to view CGs and listen to the soundtrack after clearing the game. The main menu includes an option to switch between English and Japanese.
The game is fully voiced and can be played in landscape or portrait mode, although the left and right sides of the art do get cut off in the latter mode on the iPhone. Hot spots in the upper right and lower left corners give access to the menu as well as scrollback, respectively; and the player can switch between “adventure mode” (where the text is in a small box) or “novel mode” (where the text fills the entire screen) and can be read like a normal novel by either dragging the text up or tapping a line.
