College Sports

The Player 99 concept is most often found in NCAA Football and Basketball games, due to the legal complications of using college athletes' likenesses.

In 2010, a class-action lawsuit was brought against the NCAA and EA Sports, claiming that the NCAA illegally profited from the use of college players' likenesses without compensating the players. In 2013, the NCAA announced the end of its licensing deal with EA, while EA agreed to a settlement, later announcing that they would no longer make college sports games.
