Ours did, after around 3 or 4 years. The laser thing didn't work properly. My brother played around with it and then it started working again for a couple of weeks. After that it became a brick. :(

Yep, I lost one PS2 to DRE.

Only consoles I've ever had break were one PS2, one 360, and I had to replace the 72 pin connector in my NES after years of use to make it work perfectly every time.

Only once, but not because of some hardware failure. Some fag dropped it. Came home from school once and it was lying on the ground with the disc tray all busted. Nobody fessed up, but fortunately it was repairable.

I have a launch day PS2 that still works, actually.

I upgraded to a PS2 slim because I didn't want my original to die on me and because it's much smaller, though.

My launch PS2 is pretty much dead, continuous disc read errors, disc tray won't open, and sounds like a blender. Its been that since I got it.
Only console I've ever had problems with.

My first PS2 broke after 4 years of play, it wouldn't read discs. I got it fixed, it worked for a month, then turned into a brick. I got the slim one after, and right now, its been 2 years- I think-  and some discs, if they're scratched up a bit, wont play.

I was also lucky to get a launch day PS2 (got a pre-order from Toys R Us before they were told to stop by management).  It still works 100%.  It's actually replaced the dvd player in the bedroom that broke down.  No problems whatsoever.

My launch PS2 system eventually died on me. It did survive about 6 years or so of constant use though. Between me playing games and watching DVDs and my brother using it to play games it was almost constantly on. That thing was a warrior.

Mine broke once. My sister stepped on the hand controller cable, so then it fell to the floor.
Afterwards it was impossible to open and close the cd case. we tried to fix it, but it ended up being absolutely wrecked.
So therefore i bought a new and smaller PS2 which was silver grey.

Me and my brother's PS2 worked fine for about 5 years, after that it started to get Disc Read Errors. After that, I took it apart a few times to clean it, which helped for a little bit, but eventually I just got a slim PS2.

I have had a PS2 since a few months after launch. I had to break the seal, tear her down and clean the laser once after it stopped working, around 5 years ago. Despite me not knowing what I was doing, I managed to get it put back together and it still works to this day.
