So I just got the latest Playstation 2 model and I would like to play some overseas games without chipping my PS2.
Any suggestions?

Ways to play overseas games on newest PS2?
" @NekuSakuraba: You are going to have to get region specific PS2s if you don't want to chip your PS2. "I could have sworn there were other ways.
" @Jeust said:Magic Swap wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swap_Magic" Or Magic Swap, but that fucks up your drive. "Really? How? "
The problem with it, is that you have to change the disk with the console turned on. And that isn't very good to the health of a ps2.
Yeap, but i think that depends also in the chip, as there are several, and the quality of the technical service. Magic Swap is more hazardous as you have to change disks on the fly with the console working." @Jeust said:
i can't imagine that it fucks up your drive more than a mod chip does. my modded PS2 has been chipped for about 5 years and it runs like absolute shit now. "" Or Magic Swap, but that fucks up your drive. "
But this isn't my field of expertise as i never done it, although i thought about it. But by now if i did it my ps2 would collapse of old age.

I thought that would be less hazardous.
" @NekuSakuraba: Probably not. I think overall chipping is better. "But I thought you only have to do it once for each game?
" @NekuSakuraba said:'' Don't wait for the latest PS2 games to be released in your country! You only have to swap the disc ONCE even with DVD games! Easy operation!''" @Jeust said:With Magic Swap you have to do it once for each time you start the game cd. "" @NekuSakuraba: Probably not. I think overall chipping is better. "But I thought you only have to do it once for each game? "
So what does it mean by that?
It means that each time you want to start the game you have to put first the magic swap dvd, and after a minute or two the game you want to play. The idea of the procedure is to make the ps2 think it is reading a valid dvd each time the game starts. And doing that for every game, or a lot, will probably damage the console much faster." @Jeust said:

" @Jeust said:No, i don't think so. The ps2 doesn't have a internal hardrive, what makes it harder to conceive software mods." @NekuSakuraba said:Any other software mods? " @NekuSakuraba: it'll work, but it's more hazardous than a mod chip because of how it works. "What could happen?

" @NekuSakuraba: it'll fuck the drive up, and shit won't work very well or at most-- they won't work at all. "So, if I imported an American PS2 how would that work with my TV, power sockets, etc?
Will probably work well with your tv, as most recent televisions handle ntsc and pal." @AjayRaz said:

Power sockets, you might have to arrange an adaptor, depending of the region you live in.
Probably it would be better to get a ps2 at the place you live in. Or import all your games.
I was going to get a PS2 where I live but the games I want aren't available here." @NekuSakuraba said:

Then maybe the most convenient solution would be to buy a console where you live, have it chipped, and import the games you want and can't find. That would probably work for the best." @Jeust said:

@AjayRaz:
ahhhh isn't the same as the english power socket model?" @Jeust: yep! totally forgot about adaptors. he lives in austraila so he has some weird power socket thing. "
" @AjayRaz said:Well, I guess I will just get it chipped then!" @Jeust: i have no idea. i'm Canadian :P excuse my ignorance "No problem! I never been to Australia so i can say either, but it seems like it. "
Thanks for your help, guys! :D

Swap Magic uses this -
" @NekuSakuraba: you're taking the disc out while the disc is running. "But it stops spinning...>__<
" @AjayRaz said:it has to, or that way would really screw the console." @NekuSakuraba: you're taking the disc out while the disc is running. "But it stops spinning...>__< "
But if you look closely that is a modded ps2. You can mod it like he did, or if you don't you'll have to use it differently. And you have to switch the dvd or cd for each game you want to play from a different region.
" @NekuSakuraba said:So...confused...must...PICK WHAT TO DO...ARRRGHHH!" @Jeust: Another thing is that Swap Magic doesn't void the warranty while a chip does. Any suggestions on that? "True, but it wears out the hardware much faster. You have to see what works for you better. "

I'm not sure those of you saying that the Swap Magic + Flip Top solution damages the console and the disc are very educated on what it actually does. The Flip Top simply blocks out the 3 sensors on the PS2 to make the console think that there's a disc inserted when there really isn't one. The Swap Magic disc, after being inserted, will automatically stop when it boots to its menu, so opening the top and swapping a disc does no damage at all . It's technically the same thing as swapping a disc when the console is shut down because absolutely no activity is happening with the system that makes the disc spin once the Swap Magic disc stops spinning.
Using the soft mod, Swap Magic along with a Flip Top (I wouldn't recommend a Slide Card as that could actually damage the PS2's drive), is probably your safest and most effective solution.
