Not the solution everyone who doesn't have a launch PS3 wants, but it works. Or you could just wait for the HD collections.

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Backwards compatible device patented by Sony
Good thing I have a launch PS3. I bought it 2 years ago and didn't notice that it was backwards compatible until I started playing Resident Evil 4 again.
It sounds like a PS32X, but backward. Or like a Super Gameboy I guess. Will it emulate the games identically as the PS2 would play them or does it up-res the output rather than upscale it? If that's the case then yes, I would love to play PS2 games in proper 1080p without having to resort to PC emulation.
HD Collections are awesome. BUT if this device works and actually RENDERS PS2 games in HD, not just upscaling, then I would just go with this since PS2 games are cheap now.
I would so buy this.
I hate using my old Slim PS2 because the controllers are fucking shot. Every time I get a new one, it always breaks really fast. Plus wired controllers= no good.
But then again, I'm still up for HD remakes. Much rather play MGS and Jak series in HD on my PS3.
It's not for me. I have a PS2(bottom of a closet), original launch PS3(now 500 GB), and an emulator I run my games on in 1080p or 720p.
" @Djeffers03 said:I agree, they shouldn't have but now you want to give them more money for doing so? Most people still have their PS2's and even if you don't you could buy one for half the price of this new thing." Seriously if you really want to play ps2 games buy a ps2. "Why? People shouldn't have to, because they shouldn't have removed backwards compatibility in the first place. "
