Do you use your PS3 to watch Blu-Ray discs?
Since getting my PS3 I have bought around fifteen Blu-Ray discs. The most recent being Batman Begins earlier this month.

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Do you Blu-Ray?
I have it so might as well. I don't go out of my way to find them, though, since the PS3 does a damn good job of upscaling DVDs to 1080p that unless it's a movie that's really visually stunning, I don't have a format I prefer. Zip (Canadian version of Netflix) has an option for you to automatically recieve Blu-ray discs if it's available for anything on your list, so I clicked that.
Right now it's nice that the ps3 has the option to play them, but the offer and pricing over here (Netherlands) just doesn't feel right. Especially since the DVD playback on the ps3 works like magic.
There is a real diffrence in quality compared to for instance my 360 on the same tv.
As soon as there are more titles avalible for decent pricing, I'll switch in a heartbeat, but until then....
Not yet, because Sony didn't send me my Casino Royale BD. The first Blu-Ray I plan on getting is Advent Children: Complete
No I don't use it yet. DVD's are still cheaper than Blu-rays and the quality isn't that much different visually. I will wait a while till I start buying Blu-rays. Until they are equal with DVD's pretty much.
I am just happy that Blu-ray format won the war, I was not wanting to buy anything during that time because I wasn't sure who was going to win.
I use the PS3 as a media device for downloaded movies though (uh-oh lol). I only download stuff if I can't find it anywhere else... mostly band movies that suck anyways lol
I use it for blu-ray as well as gaming. If I am purchasing a movie I will get a blu-ray over DVD. I also have netflix so I only rent blu-rays. I already have a lot of DVD's which I don't plan on double dipping for a blu-ray version. The price is higher but so was DVD when they first came out. My wife can tell when we aren't watching a blu-ray so I don't have to fight or explain why blu-ray is the better choice for our situation.
I also only have one disc, the fact that I pop in a bluray and the same movie on dvd in my 720p it looks sorta the same cause the PS3 kicks ass with upscaling. If I put in a dvd on my dvd player the difference between ddvd playback is staggering! But I wouln't really recommend Bluray unless you got kickass sound or a 1080p so there's actually a difference.
I don't even have a HDTV so there is no need to buy blue-ray movies. Once I get one I'll have a lot.
Well even on SD, Blu-ray discs look better then DVD, because the source has less compression thus does not pixelate, band or artifact. It's just that you won't be seeing it in 1080P.
Got my PS3 Holiday 2007, I own 35 BD titles. (10 came free with my PS3 purchase from Walmart) I absolutely love the jump in PQ, and have definitely used my console more for viewing films than playing games at this point. You have to be careful picking BD titles, a growing number have been heavily processed to remove grain from the picture (called DNC), RUINING the the picture detail. Seriously, 40 year old movies without DNC look better than 10 year old titles with DNC. A lot of people want a speck-free image from blu-ray, just like lots of people wanted to get rid of black bars from widescreen DVDs. Both lose lots of screen information.
........Anyways, sorry for the rant.Blu-Ray is awesome, and deserved to win over HDDVD, (even though my HDDVD now stutters and my 20+ HDDVDS are now worthless AND unplayable)
I cant wait for the next wave of superhero titles on BD:Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Dark Knight, and Hellboy 2 are all going to kick ass.
So far my PS3 is almost exclusively a blu-ray player. I own two games for my PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. I look forward to some of the future exclusives coming to the system, but in general still use my 360 for multi-platform games. I just can't get away from my Gamertag - points and the Live! community are simply more addictive than trophies so far.
That doesn't mean my PS3 goes unused. Lately it's been on more than my 360. I love watching blu-rays on my 60', 1080p tv! They're simply amazing! I don't really seeing myself buying too many other DVD's from this point on...
I use Netflix to get Blu Ray disks at times, but find it kind of annoying that I can't watch the disks on anything but my PS3, and since I spend a lot of time away from home and on the road, I'd much rather get movies in DVD format so I can either leave them in a DVD player at home connected my locationfree player or just take them along and watch them on my laptop or in a portable DVD player.
i got a free james bond casino royal blu ray disc i looked at for 10 mins but i havent bought a blu ray out of my own pocket yet
"so far i've bought Die Hard: 4.0/ Live Free or Die Hard depending on where your from and thats it so far, to be honest i don't see wh i should spend £24.00 on a blu-ray when i can spend £6 on a DVD"Well I'm assuming that you don't have an HDTV, or else you wouldn't be saying that. However because Blu-ray is a high quality source, even if you watch it in SD you will be getting a better picture then DVD because you won't have compression problems, such as artifacts, banding, pixelation, and so on.
I sold my PS3 (stupid move, I know), but kept my Blu-Ray movies. My girlfriend has a PS3, so I can watch stuff at her place for the time being. I'm hoping to talk to my friend into selling his PS3--which he never uses, not for games or movies--to me on the cheap.
"Do you guys own HDTV's?Yup. a Full-HD tv... It would be a waste of money to buy Blu-ray movies and watching them on a 17" black & white StandardDef TV :P
