Hey duders,

I just bought a PS3. I've been thinking about it for years, and finally I bought one. If these topics are very common I apologize, I just want some suggestions from the community to PS3 or PSN exclusives that are worth a purchase. Anyhow when it comes to what kind of games I like there are nearly no exceptions(the only thing I don't like is sports games).

Games that I have bought:

KIllzone collection

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Metal Gear Solid 4

I've been wondering I should buy Tokyo Jungle, because thats the kind of crazy shit I can get behind :-). Does it get repetitive and boring fast or is the drive to unlock new animals enough to make it fun for more than say an hour.

Vampire Rain.

Edit: I felt too evil. Get the latest God of War ultimate collection. The one with the five games.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time

Heavy Rain

Journey

Starhawk

Wipeout HD+Fury

If you can find it since its an older title and most likely out of print Folklore. Its a pretty damn interesting game and the only one that I felt ever used the sixaxis controls in some way that wasn't entirely stupid.

Uncharted series

God of war saga

Heavy rain if that's your taste

Infamous maybe? I didn't like 1 but liked 2

I'd start There.

Vampire Rain hahaha thats a good one. Man how could I forget God of War, I would definitively pick that up

Infamous, Uncharted series, and Journey
Don't hesitate on buying Tokyo Jungle, it really is great
I would also suggest getting PS+, you would get Infamous 2 and some other exclusives like Little Big Planet 2, Starhawk SP  and Outland......you can also get some good deals with plus and the Halloween sale.

Valkyria Chronicles, Flower, Pixel Junk Eden. These are the top tier if you ask me and things like Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Killzone and God of War play second fiddle to these gems.

Thanks for many great suggestions duders or dudettes, and I'm going to be so goddamn broke at the end of this month.

@Demoskinos:

I will check that out, to be quite honest I've never heard of it, but that makes it more exciting

@psylah: @ImaTreee:

I've never hear of Valkyria Chronicles, did it go unnoticed or what? Can't remember if I heard any buzz about that one. And of course I'm going to pick up Demon Souls

+1 on getting a PS Plus membership. You get a nice sampling of first party games and other interesting oddities. Little Big Planet, Borderlands 1, and KoF13 are all free now. Great deal with cloud storage and auto software updates. I was skeptical at first but it won me over. However, its works best if you have decent bandwidth since you're downloading huge files.

PSN is running a promo now where if you spend $100 bucks you get $20, so if you buy the membership and a few games you get the credit.

If you looking for collections I would recommend the Rockstar collection when it comes out and definitely the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus collection.

Hey, I did that today too! Traded in a 3DS and a bunch of games, somehow managed to cover a PS3.

My first thought was "A PS3? Now I can play Haze! That game is THE SHIT!". Then I remembered that it is in fact not the shit.

Anyway, I was about to post this thread, so thanks for the suggestions. Picked up Uncharted 1+2 and Heavy Rain - so far I'm not thrilled with Uncharted, but 2 is much better, right?

#17 Posted by Yummylee (22576 posts) -

Besides the ones posted, maybe Papo and Yo while you're at it? Been meaning to play this thing myself, but I've been too ''busy'' playing Borderlands 2 among other stuff.

It depends on what's keeping you from being thrilled. The setpieces in 2 are much better and the gunplay is improved, but the formula of "platform over/up/down to an open area into which enemies will spawn which you will then have to kill in awkward firefights" remains essentially unchanged. This is from someone who would tell you to definitely play all three.

Dude, that's not funny. Don't even play around like that.

Allow me to suggest Siren: Blood Curse. Just in time for Halloween!

  • Uncharted 1,2,3
  • Infamous 1,2
  • Journey
  • Resistance 3

I think everyone should play Lair, if only to get an understanding of one of the worst video games made this generation.

Also buy Haze!

As for good games there are a ton on PSN. All the pixeljunk games, I liked Racers though i know most did not, obviously the Jenova Chen games, Fat Princess is a blast, Wipeout 2048, and many more that i can't recall here at 12 o'clock at night.

  • ThatGameCompany's flow, Flower and Journey.
  • infamous 1 or 2.
  • Resistance 3.
  • Uncharted 2.
  • LittleBigPlanet 2.
  • Sound Shapes.
  • Gran Turismo 5.
  • Killzone 3.
  • Super stardust.
  • Pixel junk's Monsters, eden, shooter and sidescroller.

Bonus:

  • Pretty much every AAA PS2 HD remake from Sony is really well done.

Ratchet and Clank (collection and the newer games that came out awhile ago in some cases) are a bit older compared to some of the other releases, but they still look and play very well. Pricing for them is rather good, but even ignoring that picking up one of the PS3 ones (Tools of Destruction perhaps) is worth it.

Sony is doing a great job with trilogy releases too - so look for things like Uncharted, God of War or upcoming Assassin's Creed (multiplatform, but the trilogy release is PS3 only) ones if you've not played those before.

Although you have already bought the Killzone collection, I highly recommend playing through 2 and checking out the multiplayer, still some of the best I have played this generation.

God of War collection, 3 is also fucking awesome.

Ratchet and Clank HD. Just finished the first game and its Rayman Origins fun.

Killzone 2 maybe the most overly underrated FPS ever, though it came with a TON of hype. Love everything about that game and series. Looking forward to Killzone HD next Tuesday!

I agree, I played the shit out of KZ2, and I still hop on from time to time. I never got through all of Killzone 1, so this will be my chance to check it out again.

Absolutely Heavy Rain, in my opinion perhaps the most interesting platform exclusive of this generation. I am extremely jealous that you have it all to experience for the first time (just don't blame me for the ending).

Valkyria Chronicles 'til the cows come home. You can get it at Newegg, factory sealed, for $15.99! (Link). Be aware that their free shipping option will take 6 or 7 days to get to you, because they use UPS Mail Innovations, which is the least innovative thing in motherfucking existence.

I couldn't reccomend psn plus enough

#33 Posted by xyzygy (10079 posts) -

Without question, Demon's Souls. It and Dark Souls are the defining games of this generation, IMO.

@Enigma777: Glad to see someone else is repping Starhawk. That game was a surprise hit for me this year.

#35 Posted by Enigma777 (6059 posts) -
@Kyreo It's the most fun I've had with an MP game in years. Shame about what happened to Lightbox :(

The Last Guardian

...

No you motherfuckers I will not give up on this game! I bought a PS3 to play it and I will fucking play it! Leave me the fuck alone!

*runs into my closet and cries

All the games that actually exist have been mentioned already. But really fuck most of these other games and just buy Journey. (then, if you insist, maybe you can buy some of these other games. Like, perhaps, Valkyria Chronicles)

#39 Posted by Kerned (1169 posts) -

First things first: get PS+, it's the best $50 you will spend this year.

I agree with a lot of what has been said already, such as Journey, the Uncharted series (just play all three, you'll be glad you did), and Demon's Souls (and Dark Souls if you haven't played it yet... I think it's the better of the two). Play the PixelJunk games (except Racer), they are fantastic. Also, be sure to play Heavy Rain but don't feel like you need to buy it.

I've been playing Valkyria Chronicles for about a week or so now. I bought it because XCOM left me needing some more turn-based tactics action. So far, I am absolutely loving it, and I am normally completely turned off by anything that even smells like a JRPG, so I think it's safe to say I recommend that too.

Regarding your question about Tokyo Jungle, for me the novelty wore off very quickly, but maybe the fact that XCOM came out had something to do with that.

#40 Posted by mloco (26 posts) -

My favorite PS3 games:

Uncharted

Ratchet & Clank

Valkyria Chronicles

Flower

PixelJunk Collection

Everyday Shooter

Cheers,

Mark

I could never get into the Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance or Infamous seriesiz. I'm just getting so bored with similar run and shoot and couldn't stand the baditude of Infamous.

Demon's Souls, MGS4 and Journey for sure. Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles maybe.

Truth is though, after I finished MGS4 and Dark Souls came out on multi-plat, I sold my PS3.

My only regrets might be The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, and Agent. And only one of those is both guaranteed to come out for this generation and guaranteed to be a PS3 exclusive.

Heavy Rain

Yakuza 3 and 4

Flower

Journey

Tokyo Jungle

@Bamsen: Dead Nation. A thousand times, Dead Nation. That is, if you want some ultra-intense, dual-joystick undead shooting.

Reposting most of my list from another thread. Not in any particular order.

Exclusives only:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Resistance, Resistance 2 (Mostly for the Online-co-op only), Resistance 3
  • Uncharted 1, 2, 3
  • Killzone 2 or 3
  • Heavy Rain
  • Little Big Planet (probably 2 for better crazier levels)
  • 3D Dot Game Heroes
  • Demon's Souls
  • Ridge Racer 7 can be had for like 5$ if that, and is still fun to drive sideways in
  • Disgaea 3 or 4. (I lean towards 3 as I like the characters better, but 4 feels like it has the better systems)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (warning: ultra sim. If you like arcade racers only do not apply)
  • Infamous 1 and 2
  • Heavenly Sword if you can get a hold of it for around or under $20
  • If you've not played either, the Ico and Shadow of the Collosus collection
  • White Knight Chronicles 2 (Includes the first game in the US release already).
  • Twisted Metal
  • Folklore
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • Warhawk or Starhawk, probably not both.
  • Ratchet and Clank (Any of them)
  • I'd say Modnation Racers since they fixed the loading (mostly), but little big karting looks to have all of that game's coolness plus more. so maybe look at that instead

PSN exclusives:

  • Cubixx HD
  • Papa and Yo
  • All of the Pixeljunk games. All of them. Well. Maybe not Eden, and probably not 4am. So most of them, then.
  • Dead Nation
  • Wipeout HD
  • Tokyo Jungle
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest For Booty
  • Infamous: Festival of Blood
  • Siren: Blood Curse
  • Rainbow Moon
  • Fat Princess
  • Journey
  • Flower (Maybe. depends on your need for deep game systems. The gameplay is mostly very light puzzle/exploration based.)
  • Noby Noby Boy. Watch the quick look and you'll understand
  • Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars
  • Marvel Pinball (Sort of an exclusive, sort of not)

The above lists should get you going for a while. Also, PSN+ has some of the above list included for download as part of the membership price, so that may save you some cash.

Heavy Rain, Sound Shapes, Dyad, Journey, Uncharted, Infamous, Yakuza

Valkyria Chronicles. Yakuza 3 and 4. It's not an exclusive but you should play it anyway - Nier. The Arland Trilogy (Atelier Rorona, Totori, Meruru).

Yakuza 3 and 4.
