If you don't have a 360, there are two reasons why you wouldn't want to get a PS3.

You already have a good PC or other gaming device that fully satiates your gaming needs.
It costs too much, and doesn't deliver on the amount of money you had to throw down for it.

Honestly, if you really want to play all the games on the PS3 that badly, and you won't go bankrupt by buying one, I say you should go for it. Yes, that's not what you want, but what the hell do you expect from a gaming forum? Talk to your parents and allow them to explain to you how you're wasting your life with this whole gaming thing if you desperately want to be talked out of getting this device.

Seems like Target is clearancing out the 250GB PS3 model, if you can find one, you can prolly get it on the cheap, the one by my house had 2 250GB models for $242. Smoking deal.

Older Fat Versions, while some include PS2 compatibility, are prone to get the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) and are most likely no longer under warranty.
360 has a more robust online platform with more features if you're willing to pay for it.
PS3 160GB is $300 (baseline model), which is still expensive compared to a 360 4GB at $200. You have the option to wait for a price drop.
360 controller IMO is a superior controller. More comfortable, stronger rumble, better triggers, better analog sticks.

Most of the time, 360 versions of multiplatform games look better than their PS3 counterparts. Key examples: Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty games, GTA IV.

You obviously have no access to 360, PC, or Wii exclusives if you decide to stick to PS3 only. Each one has great games to offer for their respective platforms.

@defaulttag: This guy seems to basically sum up everything for you. But honestly, you should get a 360 and ps3 if you can, you miss out on a lot of exclusives picking one over the other. But if you're already sure you don't want a 360 (not sure why anyone would be so adamant on not buying one) just buy a ps3. Your not gonna have nothing fun to play on it and it's not going to rape you or steal your kids or anything like that, I think.

Alright, so after long contemplation and reading every answer so far, I've decided that it is worth it to dig a bit into my "Hookers & Blow" fund in order to buy a PS3.

To answer all of you asking why I don't want a 360, it's because I refuse to pay for LIVE on principle: I believe online should be included as a service to the people who already paid for both the console and the game. I know, you may all give me the "running servers costs money" bit, but I already paid 60$ (often 70$ here in Canada even though our dollar is worth more, what's up with that, America?) to buy the game, as well as quite a bit of money to buy the console itself. But man. Shadow Complex. I've got to borrow a buddy's 360 for a few days just to play that one through once. Otherwise though, I'm not too interested in Halo. I'd prefer the PS3 exclusives.

I've heard a few first hand accounts of the blu-ray drive becoming dirty due to the drive being one of those with an open rubber flap, rather than a drive that physically ejects and closes. My boss bought one less than six months ago and had to get it sent in because it was no longer reading discs at all. If you smoke, or have pets or children it's certainly something to consider. Just a thought.
