A user by the name of Scorchio , opened a thread on the PlayStation.com forums where he gave his ides on how to improve Firmware 3.0. This guy's work is very good and frankly I think this is how Firmware 3.0 should have looked like. You can find his OP here.   Here are some of his concept pictures.

Definitely better, but to be honest, I'm quite content with the current firmware.

Looks nicer but to be perfectly honest the PS 3's XMB has to be replaced with a better interface that will give it more area's for info.  Its just too simplistic to actually display a lot of info with out looking cramped.  This guys version looks nice at times but there are moments where it gets cramped too, example 57 second mark, this whole keep the XMB in the middle and display certain things underneath it just looks odd to me.  They need to redo there XMB it's nice for the PSP but its not good enough for the PS3.

I love how people make these mock ups and the online world go crazy over them.  Technical limitations would be a bitch for it, think how long it takes to see trophy data if you view their card now.  Sure that looks neat, but I don't want to wait 5 - 10 seconds and see a shiity swirly loading icon every time I look at a different person on the list.

i think it looks awesome. i kind of wish sony would see this type of things and actually listen.

Yeah its like the Diablo 3 screenshots, its pretty easy to do a mock-up video/photoshop in comparison to actually developing such a technology

That guy needs to be hired ASAP, why can't a huge company think of these ideas?

I don't know what the PS3 stuff currently looks like, so I have no comparison.  Nonetheless, that does look pretty smooth.
