just throwing this out there

since Disney now owns marvel and all of its IP's, its logical to assume the publishing rights to the spiderman movies and everthing assiciated with it, including the rights to use the old spiderman font, would also be bought by disney.

unless there is still an existing contract between sony and marval that disney chose to honor (which i dont see why they would) that says XX number of spiderman movies must be made, I dont think we will be seeing any more spiderman movies made by sony studios

s this the explanation? probably not. but a theory nonetheless that could explain the rebranding

Prefer it. Also love the actual art on the R&C cover.

Meh it's a box.

I bet when most of the people complaining actually get their hands on this, they will think it looks pretty damn good.

Quit Whining!  People can be so fickle.

I like it.

#56 Posted by TheGamerFix (255 posts) -

I dont really mind it, it looks a bit plain but hey, whatever. It better be the same shape it would be absurd if they switched back to regular DVD cases, ABSURD!
#57 Posted by MetalGearSunny (7468 posts) -

The box art is horrible by the way.

#58 Posted by mracoon (5097 posts) -

I like this one better. I hated the PS3 logo being on the side, it just didn't feel right to me.

as long as its the same case i don't care what the front looks like.

The design seems much better on this PES box. The gradient is less harsh. I don't know if that R&C template is an early one or if this marks a difference between PAL and NA boxes.

Edit: Hey, 929 posts. That's my birthday!

It's alright, I don't buy games for their game box designs, I buy them for how they play.

Agree, i look at the cover when i open and close it, thats it. Don´t care how it looks, as long as the game is in the damn case.

People of Giant Bomb, I come bearing good news.

I took the PES 2010 cover, and measured the aspect ratio, which it happens to be 500x576. I then measured the Batman: Arkham Asylum case of Amazon, and when blown up, measure 500x576! The cases (should) be the same!

Ehhhhhhhh, I don't like it. I really like the old game boxes but they have to change it to worse? Not cool one bit. I don't understand why Sony is doing this at all.

#66 Posted by SUBL1ME (119 posts) -

I liked it the old way, after awhile I stopped associating that font with Spider-Man and forgot all about it. The new style looks nice but its been 3 years, its a little too late to start completely redesigning everything about your system. Its taken Sony 3 years to nail down the definitive PS3 console itself with the slim, it took them 2 years to nail down a first party mic, now they're changing box art completely instead of just adding gimmicky "only on" and "Playstation Network" logos to better emulate the 360.

#67 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7598 posts) -

Too much grey, it's not very plesent..  And the inclusion of the Playstation Network logo seems completely pointless.  The only reason I see it being there is because Xbox games advertise XBL.
Still better than the old cases though, using the Spider-man font was a terrible idea.

#68 Posted by Drebin_893 (3080 posts) -

I honestly don't care. What the fuck is the big deal. It's. A. Box.

#69 Posted by jakob187 (22606 posts) -

Looks like a PS2 box art...with bad Photoshop work.  Didn't see anything wrong with the old way...outside of the shitty Spider-Man font.

#70 Posted by Chaser324 (7663 posts) -
@Pazy: I don't know. I only just got a PS3 and two games earlier this week and they both look the same. Ratchet & Clank was a GH title, but it just had a GH decal stuck on the outer wrapper.

I miss the Spiderman font.

#72 Edited by Hairydutchman (1041 posts) -

Meh, gradient is lame.

edit: the PES (PAL) one does look better.

#73 Posted by Pinkshley1 (460 posts) -

I like it. Now my games will have the same logo as my PS3 slim.
Spider-man font = marketing retardedness.

#74 Posted by slinky6 (567 posts) -

That's fine.   But is it still gonna have that ugly clear part at the top?   If so, it's no improvement.

#75 Posted by Urmean (609 posts) -

It's fine really, reminds me of PS2 boxes.

#76 Posted by p4ddym1607 (1061 posts) -

I couldnt tell by memory what my current PS3's boxes looked like.
So you could guess that I dont care what the new ones will look like.

#77 Posted by TheMustacheHero (6649 posts) -

Ugly gradients, just keep it clear.

#78 Posted by ArchScabby (5877 posts) -

ya know as much as I like the PS3 a lot of things like this make me question Sony's intelligence.

#79 Posted by Griddler (3374 posts) -

Looks smart. I just wish they'd made it like that originally. Its gonna be annoying having 2 different looking cases on my shelf

This is how I feel about it:

#82 Posted by TwoOneFive (9786 posts) -

i need to see this on an actual blu-ray case. it just seems like wit that extra marking on the top the box art is going to be squished down and have to be even smaller.

#83 Posted by TwoOneFive (9786 posts) -

this looks like such lazy design dude.
the psn logo just looks slapped on and all tiny.

#84 Posted by LiquidPrince (16670 posts) -

I hope it still has that plastic bit at the top or else it will seem way to different then my old games on the shelf.

yeah but like i said, with the logo and everything on the top, the box art is going to be squished.
#87 Posted by Nets (325 posts) -

Eh, not a huge fan of it. But I can see myself getting used to it. I didn't really like the current boxart back then, either.
#88 Posted by FieryAntlers (16 posts) -

Box design arguments?  Really?  Slow week.
#89 Posted by VWGTI (1946 posts) -

Meh. It looks alright.

#90 Posted by c1337us (5877 posts) -

I don't really care so much. If anything I wouldn't mind if the spine remained he same to make them fit neater on my shelf but that would be it.

#91 Edited by LiquidPrince (16670 posts) -

According to this video, Uncharted 2 has not adopted the new PS3 box design, but has still removed the Spiderman font from the side.

EDIT: MAYBE NOT...

Looks like a bad photoshop or something's missing - I don't really like it.

Damn. If they just had the cover art and no PS3 logo or anything on the front (like the video @LiquidPrince: posted), I'd be in heaven. Seriously, you can see the words PS3 on the clear plastic, so you really wouldn't need it on the box.

OMG IM FANS OF RATCHET.... will it add mulitplayer?

Nope, Sony owns the Spiderman movies and that font.
#97 Posted by ZeForgotten (10368 posts) -

I don't really care all that much. I spent more time playing the game inside the box than I do looking at it.
And when all my games are placed on the shelf they're usually facing with the side out towards the room. So I don't even get to see the front of the box there..
So I don't mind.. Nit picking isn't for me.

#98 Posted by Pkshields (826 posts) -

I don't mind the new box designs, I just hate the new font. The cases sill look similar, so the uniform shelf thing won't bug me i think.

#99 Posted by Otacon (2280 posts) -

I suppose I'm just glad the spiderman font has gone.

This would be very cool. The new box design leaves very little space for much art that isn't obscured by assorted logos.
