I've been using the Playstation Store to buy dlc and games for a couple years now and I've always been charged tax. Today I got a $20 card from Futureshop, redeemed it and bought the Flower bundle. To my surprise it came out to exactly $9.99. No tax what so ever. So my fellow Canadians what changed? I'm not complaining but I'm a bit surprised.

I don't know. First time I bought something on the PSN store was a couple of days ago (for the Rockstar Pass) and I was charged exactly $9.99.

@FluxWaveZ: Cool. I guess something came into effect. Saves me tons of money not being charged 13% tax.

Maybe because you already paid tex on the card, they don't have to charge you on the actual PS Store?

I dunno, I've never used one of those prepaid cards.

No I paid $20 for a $20 card. No tax was charged at the store.

    Nah, I'm from the U.S.

They charge tax based on whether your State has sales tax or not. Seems a little weird to me.

@SpikeSpiegel: Mind if I ask what is the percentage of tax charged for digital purchases in your state? Just curious.

@RE_Player92: I haven't purchased anything from PSN in a long time but I believe it is the same as Texas' sales tax rate, 8.25%.

For the life of me I honestly don't remember if I was ever charged tax or not for any DLC. What province are you in?

Not entirely. A company in Oregon is under no obligation to collect tax for customers they are serving over the internet or mail in, say, California. One state has no jurisdiction over another nor the business conducted within. However, a company from Oregon with a physical presence in California will be required to collect tax from California residents, because of that physical business presence.
