    No, it is. The 60gig model is by far the best, as it has full backwards compatability. Normally a 60gb PS3 will run you $500-$600.

    If they bother to drop it in Australia by that $50, that would about $70, bring the price down from $700 to $630.  No thanks.  When it is $400 and has more than 3 games I care about, then I am interested.

    Not the one I bought. I picked it up at Best Buy new in March. It specifically said on the box no backwards compatability.

    @Matt_: Check again. It's either backwards compatible or it's not 60 GB. If you bought it new at Best Buy in March, I'm betting it's not 60 GB.

    It's most likely an 80GB model and you misread the box as all 60gig models in the USA have full BC, same goes for the 20gig. Also that was 3 months ago; could you have waited 3 months to save 50 bucks?

    Yeah I was a little puzzled by your comment I thought at first that youw ere gloating then you started complaining you ahd a 60 gig and then it turns out you didn't know what you had. Pay mroe attention to what you buy man.

    Amazon was also doing a free extra dual shock controller when you buy a PS3...I'm not sure if you can combine that with the gold box deal of $50 off, but if you can, it's a good time to buy for sure.

    It's not as bad as it sounds, don't get me wrong it is bad but the oz $ is somewhere around 2:1 for the £ so at about £350 or $500 american? I feel more sorry for them when it comes to their brand new games which were about $120 brand new. Having said that if you go back 2 years oz prices (@ 3:1)  would be the equivilent of about £240 for a ps3 which is excellent. Plus wages are very high in Australia for equivilent jobs.

    Apparently I'm a little confused on the pricing of the PS3. I thought the 40GB model was $400, but actually 80GB is $400? Sony, dude, you've gotten a little out of hand with all your different models of the PS3. I'm so confused!

    Its easy do you have one? If the answer is yes who cares about the rest? If you don't and are planning to buy one go to wikipedia and check their nice little price and feature table on ALL the SKUs.
