    Hello guys.
Since I got my ps3 not too long ago, I started to get alot more interested in ps3 articles and youtube videos and all that stuff.
I came across an article about the so called YLOD. They say it can cost you $150 or more to fix it. The reason I got a ps3 instead of a 360 is because everybody talked about the RROD on the 360. They also kept saying that its a verry common thing on that console.

    • Does the YLOD happen verry ofthen.
Do any of you have that problem.
Does it really cost that much to fix it.

very low chances; generally occurs with the 60gig launch model.

Treat the system well and it diminishes the chances; maybe 1% of owners will get the problem.

It doesn't happen very often. The recent appearance of the YLOD only seems to affect the first batch of 20GB and 60GB systems (some early 80GB have been reported as well). I've never had the problem myself, but a friend of mine did and he was able to cover it under his one-year warranty.

Never knew the PS3 had a "death" sign like an RRoD.  YLoD just doesn't zing like RRoD, does it?

It's less common than 360's dying, at least.  I had 1 PS3 die, and 3 or 4 360's (can't even remember how many anymore).

I was outside of warranty when my PS3 died, so yea I did have to pay $150 to get it fixed.

Typical consumer hardware failure rates are like 1-2%.  If I had to guess I'd put PS3 failing at 8% or so, based on what I saw on the official Sony forums, and others when mine died.

Don't know if i'd put it that high, but your number is a guess just like mine. It is a fact tho compared to the RRoD problem it is really insignificant and just like any other electronic has a tendency to fail.

This is the first time that I have ever heard of anything like this. So like some of the others said, I guess it can't be too common.

yes, it is possible to get it. i havn't heard to much of it because the chances are very low compared to the 360 problems. i think it cost like $100 to get it fixed.

I have 2 PS3's. Neither have ever had any problems. I am however, on my 4th 360. Which has now been reduced to exclusive only usage.

I'd like to say you have a much lower chance of something going wrong, but I'm on my 2nd PS3. Not YLOD, but something other than that which caused my PS3 to die.

The chance is very slight of this happening to current PS3's. Earlier 20-60 GB models had some issues. Don't know about the cost to fix, keep firmware up to date & proper care & you got no worries. Proper ventilation & avoiding overheating is the key. RROD is a major concern however. Far too many failures to say that it's a low percentage. But in the age of all-ditigal electronics, this is going to be more & more of a problem. The big 3 will have to take the time to engineer fully so that design flaws don't make it to market. Interestingly, Nintendo has never had recalls or warranty issues with their consoles. Hmmmm.....

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer saved game data from say one PS3 fat to a PS3 slim?
