I called my local EB Games today to inquire on the PS3 Fat 160GB trade in value for a friend who was wanting to trade off the PS3 for a 360.

While I expected the trade in value to be lower than retail I was blown away by the actual offer:

EB Games offered me a whopping $30.00!

Well yeah, they off like $10 for games on their launch week, and then turn around and sell them as new for $60. This is whole new level of shit though.

I'd pay you about 20 bucks for your 5 year old fat PS3. What were you expecting $500?
I actually traded in my fat PS3 at gamestop when the slim came out and got $150 dollars for it.

I've sold a couple of consoles on craigslist without any hassle. Meet somewhere like inside a mall or in a bank parking lot that is well lit and likely to have security cameras and people. You get way more than what GameStop will offer you and the buyer pays less than what GameStop would charge. Everyone wins and no middle man is needed.

That's just EB's way of saying trading in a PS3 for an Xbox is a terrible idea.

I find Ebay to be so much better than eb games, All you have to pay for is the listing, the customer pays for everything else.

Trading in a PS3 for an Xbox is a brilliant idea, imo. I have both consoles and find Xbox Live to be a much better online service than PSN. I cannot handle having voice chat cut in and out of most PS3 games because there is no outside of game voice/party option.

I wouldn't sell my fat PS3 backwards compatable (only use that for Killer7) I've already paid through the nose for a sony repair, anyways. And actually, it works well and to me looks good.

@MetalMoog: With Uncharted 3 around the corner he'd be a fool to trade in his PS3.

Well it's the fat model that no one wants and the slim is now $250. So you can see, why the price.

The fat model is a much more elegant looking machine when stood up, it doesn't look so hot when sat down horizontally, though.

I can see why people wouldn't mind having the older model. I certainly don't.

Not sure how you only go offered $30. I got $120 in trade-in credit at GameStop a couple weeks ago including the additional $40 they give you with the special offer. It was an 80GB SKU (the one with software PS2 emulation).

I don't blame him; I'm tempted to trade in my PS3 for a 360 and I already have one.

So, they would be selling it for 7 TIMES THE PRICE?

Yeah well the PS3 just dropped $50 in price so EB probably knows they aren't selling well, not to mention it's an original model not the slim.

Oh would you look at that! Another guy on the internet complaining about a used game store paying little to nothing for video games/ consoles.

I dont want to come off as a dick but anyone who has been into a Gamestop/EB games/Game-Crazy/ X-Change etc etc. will know they dont pay shit. To be honest I never have nor will sell any of my old consoles or games. Its a rip and im a collector.

That is post-backwards compatibility right? It would be extra crazy if they were offering 30 bucks for those machines.

@MetalMoog: lol some one walked into gamestop trading a psp in or tried they only offered him 60 with all the games and such plus the psp lol he had like 8 -10 games and a memory stick and the charger for psp and a 3000 silver psp lol

and when i tried to trade just a phat ps2 in 2003- i bought this one in that same year , -- they offered me 25 in the box everything !!!!!!

i walked out , fact is , gamestop or eb is a rip off and they dont stand by their name any more -selling used games ya they did sell used games like n64 etc but now they do not , id rather use a pawn shop
