What PSN/XBL game do you regret buying?

#1 Edited by Tuxadracles (16 posts) -

I personally regret purchasing an online pass for Uncharted 3, Skullgirls and Virtua Fighter 5: FS, Fable (XBX), and Super Street Fighter 2 HD (XBX) The reason why I regret buying those games were because the games were boring fast and on top of that was because I didn't think about it before buying it.

Wits and Wagers. I don't know what I was thinking, none of my friends played it and the online was completely dead.

I bought a couple of Dragon Age: Origins DLC's, only to realize that it was cheaper to buy the ultimate edition than it would be to buy the rest. So I basically bought that content twice.

I bought Crescent Pale Mist on PSN and I really didn't like it.

The list of XBLA games I regret buying would be a lot longer as I spent most of this generation buying for the 360. Fortunately I am finding it difficult to remember the names of the games. I do remember one was a top down shooter with zombies that I bought specifically because it had Jeremy from Pure Pwnage as a playable character but I'm not really into zombie games and it didn't play well either. I also regret purchasing Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (if that is the right name). I bought it after getting all hyped from SF4 and I just didn't enjoy it.

Castlevania HD. What a terrible waste of everybody's time that was.

#6 Posted by maskedarcstrike (701 posts) -

Bought it thinking it would be more hilarious bad like Patrick's QL but instead it's just bad........like really bad......... I also don't really like Outland, the environments all look similar and it just bored me.

Most PSN stuff is cheap enough where I don't get buyers remorse from it. Though I did spend $30 on boosts for NHL12 because I got the game late and my EASHL guy was underleveled. I felt gross for a while after that.

First thing that comes to mind is Legasista, played like two hours of it and didn't really like it. I may go back to it eventually though so I haven't written it off completely yet.

#9 Posted by ShaggE (6400 posts) -

Bomberman Live. Godawful netcode.

Serious Sam: TFE HD. (not sure why I bought that in the first place... I already had it on PC) The game itself is great, but Serious Sam just doesn't play right with a controller. I can only imagine how poorly Quake Arena Arcade plays.

I'm sure there's more, but I'm not thinking of any offhand. I try not to impulse buy XBLA stuff, since the crap flows pretty freely amongst the gold nuggets.

Fez and Journey. Got them because I heard that people thought they were both really good but I really did not like them. Like, at all.

There's probably a few, but I'm having trouble coming up with them. A lot of times I buy a game that looks interesting to me and then never really play it, so it never gets to the remorse stage.

I've had several cases of buyer's remorse over XBLIGs though, and those only cost me a dollar.

Fat Princess. The servers were broken day 1 and when I finally played it, it was just kind of hectic and not that interesting. I think that's when I made my rule of, $15 and no demo = no buy. My niece got a ton of play time out of it though, so it wasn't all bad.

Off the top of my head, From Dust and Outland. I disliked both of those games quite a bit.

#14 Posted by delorean99947 (227 posts) -

Punisher...

#15 Posted by Reisz (1478 posts) -

You know, I was going to say nothing until you mentioned SFIIT HD Remix, I got that on 360 and had been waiting for it for ages, that was the day I discovered just how awful the standard 360 D-pad is. I cannot get any specials out consistently. Dragon punch is just a waste of time on that pad. I think I played through it once with Ken on easy and never touched it again.

This game was awful, and when I got to this point in the game. I was ready to throw up my hands and walk away.

Yes I know it sounds like the name of a porno, but its a third person shooter set in a underwater setting. There's alot of things wrong with Deep Black. First off the story is nonsensical and boring. It doesn't go anywhere, and the cheesy voice acting makes matters worse. The shooting and control mechanics is straight up broken. Weapons lacks impact, enemies can absorb bullets, stiff animations and glitches, bland and bad level design, the works hell you can even take damage while your in COVER! Fuck this game and to ever who made it. What developers in there right mind releases a game that's barely functional.

#17 Posted by mrfluke (5127 posts) -

probably sound shapes, the GB crew overhyped the hell out of that game.

#18 Posted by TheVeteran13 (1202 posts) -

Bionic Commando: Rearmed, it was just not my type of game at all.

Uhh, well since this is in the PS forum I'll try to think... Championship Sprint is probably my only tragedy on PSN. Uncontrollable. Also, Jesus Christ, Wikipedia.. sorting on The... :P

For XBLA I got both the Galaga Legions games, because I apparently have a brain disorder?

Rock Band Blitz.

It was fun, but without a massive library of songs to carry over from previous games it wasn't worth jumping in to.

#21 Posted by Tuxadracles (16 posts) -

@hunter5024: Man I hate that. Like I bought the MGS HD collection just to find out theyre making a collection with every single game! :P

#22 Posted by Clonedzero (4196 posts) -

CastleStorm.

Came out recently. It's not bad. Spent an afternoon beating the campaign. but uh, if you've played one match of it, yeah, it's exactly the same EVERYTIME. I got bored of it the day i bought it. Sucks.

Not that I regret it per se, but I certainly bought that Top Gun game for the wrong reasons.

Also, while Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was good, the XBLA release of Hyper Fighting a few years prior was awful.

#24 Posted by maskedarcstrike (701 posts) -

@rpgee: Glad to see I'm not the only one who disliked Outland.

#25 Edited by RE_Player1 (7557 posts) -

Shank. I beat the game and was so mad I wasted my money on that piece of shit.

#26 Posted by RPGee (759 posts) -

@maskedarcstrike: Damn right, I found that game boring and poor. Also, fuck that last boss.

#27 Posted by Tonylope (187 posts) -

The only PSN game I truly regret buying was Noby Noby Boy. It just felt like a complete waste of time. Although there were some games that came pretty close to that same feeling for me (Outland, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes & Penny Arcade Adventures), I managed to finish those with at least some fondness remaining for them.

#28 Posted by bigjeffrey (4904 posts) -

It was okay

ONLY BECAUSE ATLUS published it

FUCK.

Flower. Motion control garbage.

#31 Posted by hollitz (1496 posts) -

Braid, Noby Noby Boy, and Bastion.

Hydrophobia.

#33 Posted by OmniscientCajun (119 posts) -

Comic Jumper because I flat out didn't enjoy playing what I played of it (though, I'm a little torn because I like Twisted Pixel and do want to support them).

Rush'n Attack and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled because nostalgia got the better of me.

Small Arms because it was early on in XBLA and there wasn't that much to jump on. I found myself with, shall we say, some points that I didn't pay for (I tried paying for them, I really did, Microsoft refused my money). And I thought this quirky character-filled brawler thing might remind me of Super Smash Bros. It did not.

Tekken 5 Dark resurrection. Fuck that game.

  • Quantum Conundrum. I don't like it.
  • Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. I hate this game.
  • Sound Shapes, Papo & Yo & The Unfinished Swan. Only regret buying these games at full price since they've dropped to more then half the price.
  • LittleBigPlanet Karting. Terrible.
  • The Walking Dead Episode 3. Regret buying because I got all the episodes from my friend eventually.

Man there are quite a few that I didn't like

Ms. Splosion Man because it was not nearly as good as the original

From Dust, I just couldn't get into it

The Last Guy which I didn't find very entertaining

Quantum Conundrum was just meh to me.

Stacking I found really boring

that being said there are a ton of XBLA/PSN games that I have had a blast playing and they far outnumber the bad ones

Off the top of my head, Retro City Rampage and the season pass for Uncharted 3. For the first one I don't even like the Grand Theft Auto games so I have no idea why I thought buying that game was a good idea. As for Uncharted 3 though, I had a ton of fun playing the beta that the season pass just seemed like a no-brainer. But by the time I was done with the campaign, I felt kind of too burnt out on the game to play multiplayer. Even then, returning to it isn't as "friendly" as Uncharted 2; anybody who is a higher level than you (who is everyone that is still playing the multiplayer) grossly outguns and outperks you.

This game is not fun to play. Beating it was such a mind numbing chore that I have no idea why I did it.

I forgot Comic Jumper on my list. I agree, it was a total chore to play through

Comic Jumper and Warp are probably my biggest regrets. They aren't terrible, just weren't very fun to play. I've been lucky to stay away from a lot of the garbage on XBL/PSN.
