I honestly think the best solution for everyone is to implement the BC in a new firmware, and then sell PS2 games on PSN as well, that gives everyone every option they could ever want.

Those with an 80gb lose nothing because they can still play PS2 games like normal.
Those with PS2 discs can now play them.
Those who missed out on some great PS2 games can buy them on the store, or buy the physical discs and play them.

I just don't see how anybody loses out with sony implementing this, and I just feel comments like "Just go buy a PS2" either come from people who have a BC PS3, or don't care, and thus, don't need to care about this decision. But it doesn't harm the people who dont care either, so why should they care? :D

Look at the high price, PSP Go at 250 when its cheaper to make than the current PSP? In this economy? No more PS2 backward compatability when the PS2 is still selling and software can still move? HOME, geesus krist, whose fucking idea was that? All of this just reminds me of their E3 2006 press conference, they really think that shit like trophies and finally having movies for rent are amazing revolutions. Just about all of their first party games have been very high quality games. Either his standards are ridiculous or he's stuck in 2007.

Yeah that too. I can only think of two "lack-luster" first party games from Sony off the top of my head. (Lair, and Haze) Everything else has been great.

Maybe I should have been more specific. Their lack of support of third-party publishers to make first party games is bad. They lost exclusivity to Grand Theft Auto IV, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy XI, Tekken 6, etc. They're just kinda cheap.

That or Microsoft is just sending wheelburrows of cash.

Make that a whole army of wheelbarrows full of cash. Sony has a long standing rule of not paying for third part developers/publishers exclusive and Ms used that to deal them some nice blows. That all might change though because Howard Stringer is the CEO now and he said that he is going to do some "sacred cow" killings in Sony. He has been very vocal in his criticism towards the japanese management.

What you should have said is that Sony's Third-Party Developers/Publishers support for making exclusives is lackluster.

@choffy21: Also, Ubisoft Never said that Assassin's Creed is going to be a ps3 exclusive. They first announced it as an xbox 360 game titled Project Assassin and later mantioned it as a ps3 game titled Assassin's Creed. The word 'Exclusive' was never attached to it.

I find it very odd that there so bad at keeping the PS2 games running on the PS3 since the PS2 had no problem running PS1 games.

If I ever bought a PS3 I would definetly want to be able to play the ton of PS2 games I own. At the moment I don't have a PS3, I have a 360 but might buy it down the road just for the blue ray player, it would be nice to finally retire that PS2!

Sooooo...you only going to buy a PS3 Just for the BD and to play your PS2 games? then why don't you just go and get a cheap Magnavox BD player and be done with it. . PS3 is still one of the highest quality BD players on the market. Pound for pound, especially with a price cut looming, it's still the best one of the best values in the BD player market. High quality, and easily upgradeable.

He said he will get a PS3 just for the BD player, so he has no interest in all the great exclusive games that system has to offer?. That kind of statement is something that a none gamer will say.

Edit: The ps3 is also one of the best DVD players out there, The upscaling capabilities are truly amazing.

By the way, Ubisoft approached Sony with an offer to make Assassin's Creed a PlayStation 3 exclusive and they didn't want it.

@choffy21: I didn't bash him at all. all i said that statement like his is kind of idiotic coming from a gamer. In no way shape or form did I call him an idiot. The ps3 is the best BD on the market but if he is just wants for the BD then just go and Buy a BD player. Why pay $400 for a BD when you can get a good one for $250 and use the remaining money to buy BD movies?

Honestly, i'm not going to knock people who love the PS3's first party games, they are high quality titles and deserve attention, but the majority of them i'm simply not interested in, or only interested in a small amount and wouldn't buy a PS3 for because the genre already has enough games to suit me elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, they are cracking titles, but Lair, Motorstorm, Uncharted, Buzz!, Ratchett and Clank and Heavenly Sword don't really interest me, and things like Resistance, Resistance 2, inFamous etc do interest me, but I have enough action games to play already that I don't need them. And I played Folklore on a friends PS3, it was really good. I'm also only interested in playing MGS4 if I get a PS3, not interested in getting a PS3 just to play it.

I will agree with you that Lair is shit but hey even MS have their share of game blunders. and Motorstorm is okish, though I did enjoy Pacific Rift more but damn I needed more tracks. The tracks in Pacific Rift, if you can even cal them tracks, were awesome.

Well if you made a comment, and someone else jumped down your throat with accusations that were nowhere near in line with your original statement, you'd be a bit touchy as well.

And Lair is much better once they patched the controls.

It's not compulsory for someone to love Ratchet and Clank, if I have no interest in it I can't be expected to get all that excited about it as an exclusive title.

It's not something that went out of fashion, the market dictates what is and isn't in fashion, this was Sony's decisions and Sony's decision alone.
