Dude do me a favor and shut the fuck up.
The ps3 originally had ps2 hardware and could emulate the games, yes this is true, however those parts were removed due to cost issues. I don't give a fuck what Sony or any company promises, just so that you know in real life you can't believe what people tell you. Ford promised their employees health benefits and insurances and 401k, but guess what when a company goes under it doesn't need to keep its promises. Sony's promise was akin to we are going to have ps2 software emulation as long as its a consumer priority. The consumer screamed and wailed we want cheaper prices! So Sony dropped the price. Now the consumer bitches and moans again. If you really truly wanted Backwards compatibility you could have bought a launch console, or a second generation console, or the MGS4 bundle. You did not. Spare me your fucking tears. MS dropped the HDD ont he arcade to lower the price and avertised as such. It says right there on the box no HDD, no wireless, etc. Sony did th esame thing and everyone knew and saw it coming so don't go acting like this was news to you. I knew that BC was being dropped and I did not buy a ps3 because I'd rather keep my money for when it was more affordable. When I bought a non-BC ps3 I ddin't bitch about it. They were selling a product and I bought at the pricepoint that I wanted.
You can all bitch about Sony's promise, as well Nintendo's or Microsoft's. But let me break it to you: these are companies not people. What they say in glorified PR conventions are not "promises". The only promise they give to you is the product you buy at the price they sell it at. Sony promised me a 40gb non-BC ps3 for 400 dollars and I took it. It promised you fully compatible 60 gb, 20gb, and 80gb consoles and delivered. It later on stopped carrying those products. If you don't like how the company manages the ps3 quit your bitching and buy a ps2 for your ps2 games then.
If you can bitch this much about Sony not delivering the promise of BC, why don't you go to the 360 forums and talk about how Microsoft did not deliver on the promise of a product that works? I've had a 360 die on me now. Oh and btw I fully agree with everything Sammy said here before.
Anyway this is pointless because we won't see this emuation thingie until at least next year.
" @angelkanarias: It's definately possible, without the emotion engine chip the PS3 has managed to run a significan amount of PS2 games through software emulation, and if they can directly emulate the chip like they are proposing here it won't be a problem at all. "Wow, leave the site for a couple of days and this what I come to...
