Sony just wrapped its lengthy and jam-packed press conference at Gamescom today.

Most importantly, it announced the release date for PlayStation 4 is November 15.

The company has delivered a long overdue price cut for its struggling handheld, Vita. Effective immediately, the Vita is now $199.99. It was previously $249.99.

Additionally, the company has promised to significantly reduce the prices of the handheld’s ridiculously overpriced proprietary memory cards. No new price points were announced for the memory cards, though.

What else came out of the press event?

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is such a great name. A Machine for Pigs is such a great name. The Chinese Room, you have your game on lock.

a Vita press cut

Oh man.

I'm a little bit confused because sometimes when the say Europe that includes the UK, but sometimes they don't when talking about release dates. obviously the UK is part of Europe so does that mean the November 29 date is for the UK also?

Borderlands 2 on Vita? That should be interesting.

I am one of those million.

Thank you for getting this out so quick, Patrick!

The press conference was fine as a overall playstation event, but it was poor as a PS4 one. A little disappointed.

Less than 2 months. Spectacular.

That was fast.

I'd be interested in a Vita for the remote play thing, but I will not be gouged on those memory cards. I hope the price cuts are significant.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture being a PS4 exclusive is a bummer. That is what they said right?

#19 Posted by Boiglenoight (537 posts) -

@rincewind: At this point we know it's going to be a solid investment, and that there will be at least 5 games worth buying for it during its lifespan. I pre-ordered more as a vote of satisfaction with Sony's direction more than needing yet another console hooked up to my TV.

Twitch being announced for the PS4 does not mean Ustream is going away.

Less than 3 months until I can anxiously wait for UPS/FedEx to drop off my PS4 so I can play AC4.... yay! =)

Great conference, cannot wait for more info on Shadow of the Beast. Minecraft and Twitch stuff was also pretty surprising, but good on Sony for getting those. Also a ton of great looking indie titles, some of them at launch that were unannounced before.

System interface looked great, fast and responsive, and the touchpad typing is a great addition to the system.

Also good to see Ubisoft able to show off AC4 again after the crash at E3. Won't be a Day One buy for me, but good looking game that I'll pick up down the line. Watch Dogs, on the other hand, will be Day One, super excited for that one.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture looked super neat.

WHAAT!! Borderlands 2 on my Vita!!! Yes please.

  • Twitch streaming and viewing is coming to PS4. Goodbye, UStream!
  • Hey, Minecraft is coming to Sony platforms, too!

Even though neither of these interest me, I feel like these are both pretty big things Microsoft had over Sony, neat to see them coming over. These consoles continue to get more similar by the day! Also glad to hear they'll be lowering their proprietary memory card prices because they're ridiculous right now, but they still didn't say by how much.

I liked the conference. The most important thing had to be the Vita announcements. I (like many) have gone from no way am I buying that device to...man I want that device.

Guys , the Vita is awesome . I'm out .

100% agreed. Both titles sound like names for metal albums.

I really liked the conference. Too bad it's coming out two weeks later in Europe; but I'm still hot for it!

I loved the digs at Microsoft, especially the Minecraft one lol

Twitch being announced for the PS4 does not mean Ustream is going away.

But it means that no one will use Ustream!

At least they seem to be trying With the Vita again. I'll need to see some more games I care about before I'll buy the thing because I don't care about Remote play at all, but again, at least they're giving the thing some attention again.

#35 Posted by metalsnakezero (2297 posts) -

It going to be a indie party on the PS4/Vita!

You missed Rime, which was actually the most exciting thing in the conference for me. What a beautiful looking game.

Shadow of the Colossus?

Feel like a post titled like this should actually contain all titles show, instead of everything meaning what the author remembers/cares about.

Also the "goodbye Ustream" reaction, seems highly unprofessional. So Twitch is the most prolific service and you might not like Ustream, we don't know if both options were kept around and other people might prefer it. I don't know if Ustream doesn't have better servers in locations where Twitch doesn't. Heck I wish there are as many options available as possible, even Youtube would be a great move even if it is limited to people with a sizeable amount of subscribers.

Also I believe prices for memory cards might've been announced but due to the camera weren't visible, not sure.

Also as I feel a large enough audience of GB is not in North America, stating other release dates, etc. might be nice.

Now that the criticism is over, complements are also in order for the work that is actually done well. Keep it up.

Please.

Shadow Of the Beast remake? I know at least one person whom this news will be of interest to.

Cheers for not mentioning the European launch date (29th November), @patrickklepek. Totally irrelevant to anyone of course. :|

Agreed. There are a significant number of non-US fans of Giant Bomb. Not even mentioning anything about the release dates for the rest of the world really rubs me the wrong way. I guess I have to go somewhere else for my gaming news and just come here for the entertainment.

Disappointing.

All these next-gen games with story are going to be ruined for me with a 2-week delay. I hope the Xbox One comes out early here and before America.

#46 Posted by rachelepithet (1391 posts) -

Yay! Gran Tourismo 6 got its first delay!

#47 Posted by Cybexx (1174 posts) -

Friday is a pretty good day for a console launch. You got all the launch games out on that day (or probably a bit before then) and then Watchdogs on the following Tuesday.

#49 Posted by Paindamnation (805 posts) -

Rogue Legacy deserves it.

#50 Posted by MyNiceIceLife (622 posts) -

Happy that they switched to Twitch instead of Ustream, and that it's a friday that it's released so I can play it over the weekend and don't have to take off anytime to be around for delivery.
