PlayStation Now Beta Invites Heading Out

Posted by patrickklepek (3481 posts) -

Sony only recently announced its cloud-based game streaming service, PlayStation Now, and it's following up on its promise to launch a limited beta in January.

Emails inviting select users have started showing up. There doesn't appear to be much rhyme or reason to the process, but you might want to keep your phone handy if you want to redeem it right away.

The beta itself has not yet launched.

If you get in, let me know in the comments, and make sure to share your experiences later!

It's a trap. Sony is trying to get you in there pockets. Don't jump into the pockets of "The Man"

@budwyzer: Last I heard the pockets of this "man" are quite empty. So should be comfortable and large living in there.

Quick Look ?!

I would gladly give away my key for that propose... if I ever get one.

"Keep your phone handy?" Aside from that being an odd way to phrase "check your email," these invitations don't suddenly expire, do they? And if the beta itself hasn't launched yet, why should it matter how quickly you accept the invite? That said, I am hopeful this service turns out to be an OK way to play games, if only to preserve old games' playability in the future.

@bicycle_repairman: It's all overstated and exaggerated. Everything runs on a deficit. Take the United States of America for example. Our government runs on a deficit. Our people operate on a deficit, via home and auto loans.

If everyone is out to make money, where does it all come from? At some point, everyone owes everyone else.

And no, anything you would have, while living in SOE's pockets, Tiny would take as his.

Real-life equivalent. In a movie

Any idea if this is a PS4 & Vita only thing, or is it possible that PS3 users would receive the invite?

#13 Posted by Zacagawea (1583 posts) -

I wonder if they only send these beta invites to people who have all the marketing spam boxes checked

Oh god I thought this was about Playstation Home moving from alpha to beta or something at first

#16 Edited by johnham (46 posts) -

@driftspace: If I recall it's actually PS3 ONLY right at the start, but will eventually be on all 3.

Only a chosen few will be Assumed into the Sony Cloud. Will you be... LEFT BEHIND??!?!?!

The emails that have leaked have only listed PS3 right now. The beta might be PS3 only for the time being. Vita support isn't going to be available until sometime after the official launch.

Are these invites showing up as regular emails or is it something I would have to check on my PS3 console?

@patrickklepek: I really want some Subway now. Thanks Patrick.

Free $5 Subway giftcard

Did you happen to get in on this while the code still worked? I managed to get $100 worth, supposedly as I'm still waiting on them to show up in the mail. That server was so hammered though, as I'm sure you can imagine.

People eat Subway? That's news to me! I'm not even sure Subway is food! Their beef looks like marbled chocolate!

Got the invite yesterday. Still waiting on the beta voucher to arrive, but I'd be happy to share my experiences if I'm not under some crazy NDA.

@ragintaft: did you sign up for it? How did you receive your notice?

#29 Posted by ragintaft (48 posts) -

@insanegenis: I'm just a Playstation Plus subscriber, so they have my email. I didn't sign up for anything beforehand, they just emailed me.

I'd imagine it's a random drawing of PSN or PS Plus subscribers who have recently used their PS3. I'm a fairly new subscriber (just got my PS3 a couple of months ago), so I was pretty surprised I was picked.

@ragintaft: That's pretty cool. I'm a PS + subscriber also. Have fun with the service

#33 Posted by ForTheJim (11 posts) -

I got an invite yesterday even though I never signed up. If I can, I'll write up a blog post.

Is Playstation Now coming worldwide or just North America? Have they announced anything about Australia?

Oh boy, just checking, nope..... don't own a PS4, maybe was hoping for it on a laptop
