Anyone else feel as though this left a bitter taste at the end to a great presentation overall?
PlayStation 4

PlayStation 4 is Sony's fourth home video game console, released on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe. On November 10 2016, Sony released the Playstation 4 Pro, an updated version of the console targeting 4K gaming.
Ps4, Disappointed no console shown?
i really couldn't care less. frankly the controller and games are more important than a box with wires.
I do not care, since everything else seemed really fucking cool. It's a bit, as Ryan is saying right now, pie in the sky but if it can hit these notes then that is awesome.
Nope, they have to save something for E3 of course. I think everything was very well done, great explanation of specs up front and then a good amount of games and demos. E3 they will show more specs/psn stuff and then a ton more games which will hopefully include Last Guardian.
The form factor doesn't really matter to me. The controller they showed looked okay and the specs are obviously final at this point. They even showed an interface that's presumably final. Whether they're waiting for another conference to reveal the actual unit or they don't have a final one to show, I feel like I have the information that actually matters.
It will probably be a black square with a 'PS4' on it. It will also likely fit under a TV.
Just a guess, but it's not especially important anyway.

I'm more curious if you are going to have to download everything and if they will be removing the br drive. (which I think is maddening)
They really emphasized about always being "connected" at the beginning of the show.
I'd rather know what's inside, what I can play on it and how it works. That's what they showed and I came away really excited for the PS4 because of that.
Nah. I'm surprised by this sentiment. The console itself is cool, but it's the least important thing. Plus, in this day and age what do you really expect it to look like?
Spoilers: it's going to be a black rectangle.
This.
It seemed odd and kind of childish for Larry Hryb to take such a dumb potshot at Sony for something like that. Especially since he probably knows that half of their next gen conference will likely involve integration of Appz. At this point, if Sony is the company that'll focus on games, they'll get my money first. I don't care what the console looks like, I care what it plays like. And Microsoft would really hurt themselves if they tried making people pay for XBL again.

This. My money goes to whoever demonstrates best that they have the games.
The hardware is inevitable so it didn't really affect what Sony were going for with this show which was to show change, an ecosystem and what it offers. A black box on a stage doesn't matter. Nintendo did the same thing with the Wii U where they put great emphasis on the controller. Microsoft's unveil will likely be different though if the Kinect and console are tied to each other then it's in their best interests to show off the new console.
@mariachimacabre: You may feel that way about XBL but I can definitely see people paying for it again. If they've paid for it the first time and have continued to pay for it for many years then they will do so. MS has made billions from charging for XBL and have said that people are using their Xbox's had media consumption devices rather than to play games which means people are willingly paying twice as they pay for XBL to get access to Netflix.
why do people care what the actual console looks like?
it'll be a black box that you barely pay attention to other than to put games into and turn off/on.
though i realize theres a crowd of PC gamers who "pimp their ride" with like transparent cases, and crazy lights in it. making it look like some gaudy piece of shit. so i guess theres people out there that want gaudy consoles, right?
With the show they gave, I don't think "disappointed" is a word that I can apply to it. They showed off some of the features and then showed what any video game console should be about: the games.
I understand why they started with Killzone. That was kind of disappointing at first, but then I realized that I was not paying attention to the game, I was keeping an eye out for the graphics, and the fact that I've essentially played that game an umpteen number of times before helped me do that very thing. I think that opening with that, to wow people's eyes, was a great choice. And then they dove into various kinds of games from various kinds of studios and people, and I really liked what they showed.
Still not buying one on day one, but they did a really good job of making me strongly consider buying one a year or so after launch.
EDIT... oh wait, what does it look like? Who cares? If its lifespan delivers half the goods that (my nostalgia says) the PS2 did, I don't care if it's turd brown, bright pink, and shaped like... well, like an ugly thing (sorry, can't think of a basic shape that's inherently ugly).

Well I'm interested because of curiosity and wanting to know what kind of drive it will use (top load, slot load), number of USB ports, ethernet and so on.
I wouldn't say I'm disappointed but yes i would've liked to see what it looked like since the conference was about the ps4 but there's always e3 and a multitude of other venues that they can show it off. The conference was good, they showed off some of the features and showed off some games ( but those were basically tech demos to show the power of the ps4). You can't really ask for more than that.
I still don't know what the WiiU box looks like. Just doesn't matter.
Let me guess: it's black, and it's vaguely box-shaped.
@believer258: There is no PS2 nostalgia, the PS2 is by far the most dominant console in history; though there definitely is 360 nostalgia already.
I was not disappointed that they didn't show the hardware. I'm sure it'll look fine. The conference exceeded my expectations (even though I really wanted to see The Last Guardian).
I was a little disappointed because it still seems like such a mystery to me without seeing the box. It's good that they gave us the release date at least though.
I'm kind of pissed that the whole new phantom pain trailer rumor wasn't real though!
@PhilipDuck They showed the console. They just didn't show the physical case it will come in.
