I've seen a lot of dumb stuff on there so far ranging from a dude smoking on air, a dude ranting about the Illuminati and just some dude streaming music. What crazy stuff have you guys seen on there?

#2 Posted by jimmyfenix (3855 posts) -

@acidbrandon18: A lady flashing , A man cheating on his wife Seriously and 4 dudes playing DnD

#3 Posted by yakov456 (1908 posts) -

The only one I've seen that was actually fun to watch was some dude throwing his own personal dj session with a keyboard, strobes and the AR robots. The rest showed me the worst that humanity has to offer. Seems like a a lot of scumbags can somehow afford a ps4.

#4 Posted by KirillOrlov (222 posts) -

Damn I need this ps4, I want to see this strobe light dj set.

What have I seen? A bunch of work for whoever the poor dude is at Twitch who has to ban these assholes.

#6 Edited by spraynardtatum (2951 posts) -

If Twitch doesn't want it I hope Ustream does, or that Sony finds a streaming service that will allow some dumb stuff to surface. Ban the dummies that are smoking on air or getting naked but I think there's a ton of potential for some awesome things to come from merely streaming playroom.

Screw motion sports games and UI voice controls. This is the reason to get a camera.

why should you ban people who want to get naked or smoking?Just put in adult filter in and everything is fine.

Aw shit I need to watch some of these.

Good call. Porn is definitely profitable.

flashing is far from porn. Yeah maybe it is a bit to far if they actually have sex on these streams but flashing and having fun for that matter should be not bannable at all. The forced stuff what happened with the one drunk women should be banned of course but I also watched a very nice couple having a lot of fun flashing from time to time and laughing about it. And honestly there was nothing bad about it.

#12 Posted by JZ (2125 posts) -

Can you see these on regular twitch or just on the ps4?

@jz said:

twitch basically now closing everything playroom related if you want to watch this stuff there is still u-stream if you do not have a PS4.

I just read about a married couple who got drunk on a PS4 stream. The wife passed out and the husband took all her clothes off. I bet those two are in it for the long haul.

That doesn't sound bad, I just wouldn't want to be the one defining the lines. I think you're right, it shouldn't be considered bannable (personally, I don't think smoking should either but laws is laws) but how do you decide what is okay? I wouldn't want to search through a list of streams if half of them were just people sitting there naked the whole time. But, I think an adult filter in general would solve a lot of issues.

#16 Edited by Darji (5294 posts) -

some highlights of the Playroom. Don't worry nothing "Not safe for work" stuff of course. This has really potential XD

Also it is a small look into the new world of Playstation and the reason the PS4 camera is sold out at many places XD

An adult filter is all you need. If it's obviously illegal like kiddie porn or drug use then ban away, but if some guy wants to play COD with his dick out and people want to watch have at it. Just force the user to put an adult/nudity tag and don't allow people to even see the streams exists unless they opt into it. No need for some moral discussion.

That said, I understand as well though if the site doesn't want to allow nudity or sex. Once they allow that kind of thing the site will get over run with it as porn spreads onto sites that allow it rather quickly. And I can see them not wanting to be known as the place for people to show porn.

@crusader8463: The biggest problem with Twitch is that they have one streamer allowed to do this non gaming stuff. (Spartan Show) and even made him a partner already while the others get banned on the spot. It is a really shady practice what Twitch is doing...

#19 Posted by crusader8463 (14422 posts) -

@darji: A lot of Twitch seems really shady, ass backwards, and double standardy to me.

How does one apply a fliter to a stream that doesn't feature "adult content" until it just happens? You really think a couple of drunk people are capable of policing themselves? We're talking about live content here.

alcohol should have a age restriction to begin with. Also it could depend on the time you are streaming. So 9 pm = age 16+ for example. I really do not think these restrictions are that hard to apply.

@darji: That's entirely nonsensical. Twitch can't determine a user's likelihood of alcohol consumption, and depending on time of day ignores the existence of time zones. And Twitch certainly can't control when users decide to get naked, inebriated or not.

But Sony can. For example. System clock is depending on your age restriction. Also you could have moderators on twitch or Ustream in this case set the age level accordingly or go in there and warn them to set it to 16 or 18 or the channel will be closed. It is really not that hard to implement such restrictions at all. So instead to let a moderator come in and close the stream without even one warning just regulate it.

@starvinggamer What is so disturbing about it? It was a stream where people had fun watching and streaming. There is really nothing disturbing about it.

#28 Posted by GERALTITUDE (3320 posts) -

Ban smoking on air?

WTF?

Fucking narcs.

#29 Edited by Seikenfreak (426 posts) -

Just make stream viewing an 18+ thing. That way it covers Sony and Twitch's butt and all the kids under 18 will find a way to watch it anyway cause that's what kids do but their parents can't sue because of the 18+ disclaimer.

I agree there shouldn't be a blanket banning of all this. If people want to do stupid crap in front of a camera then great, it's more fuel for the internet engine. As usual, if you don't like it then you don't have to watch it. Twitch should supply an Adult tag for videos so they can be turned off in searches and such if you never want to see that stuff.

I saw a girl who had to quit streaming because terrible people kept bombarding her asking her to take her top off.

Seriously, I hate the gaming community and am embarrassed for it.

that is mostly 4chan not the gaming community. These stream links were everywhere. neogaf red, 4chan and so on.

It is really wrong to blame it on a whole community. I am and many other people are part of this community and I would never do that for example. There will be always trolls and it was not because she was a women because everyone got trolled. Every race, every Gender every age.

#36 Posted by GaspoweR (3028 posts) -

@jimmyfenix: So essentially this is like Chat Roulette?

That's not what I said. You're the one who came in here talking about how pathetic we all are because some assholes decided to be assholes. Re-read what you wrote. If all of us in the gaming community are such pricks, why bother associating with any of us? Why bother posting here? Do you feel such a deep-seated need to have a voice for your saber-rattling that you absolutely must slum it with us, the "pathetic" gaming community?

#38 Posted by Fredchuckdave (5479 posts) -

I do not know who crowbcat is but he is also a harmless troll at least in the video i posted. But still I think it is wrong to blame it on a whole community because there are assholes and trolls everywhere on the internet.

The real money for Twitch isn't in pre-roll ads on people talking into webcams -- it's in big-money partnerships with publishers, events, and top-tier advertisers. The last thing they want is to be associated with Chatroulette-style stuff. You may want them to be more permissive, but that doesn't mean it's in their interest to be known as a racy site. If I were involved in Twitch community management, streams of weird intoxicated people being egged on by chat members would really concern me, because it's way too easy to picture them taking a turn for the worse at any moment.

@oldirtybearon: That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So in order to be a gamer, I have to accept that women are treated like shit?

He clearly didn't say that, and I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve by condemning the entire "gaming community" (what does that even mean?) for the actions of a few people.

Man, people were letting their kids sit in front of that thing and letting the internet have at them? Yikes.

I didn't even realize until just now that these console have made streaming so easy that literally anyone can do it, including small children. That can only end poorly.
