If Jak and Daxter aren't in this I will be beyond disappointed. Cole from infamous needs to be in as well.

@habster3: Oh, you were 100% right to point it out. I'm just blaming my stupidity on a lack of sleep, and not my actual stupidity.

    And you're quite welcome.

I'd much rather have a split screen game were the character you play as changes the game play (IE: Nathan Drake let's you straight up shoot dudes in third person, etc)

I totally get that it would be a bitch to balance but man would it be either fucking awesome or the worst thing ever made...

That being said I am kinda liking the mashup level design, don't remember that happening in ssb...then again I've only played one...

I'm sick of all these butthurt Ninendo fans who can no longer use SSB as a reason why the Wii isn't worthless. Listen, just because Nintendo did it first, doesn't mean Playstation fans don't deserve this. I have been waiting forever for this game. Fuck you if you are against it. If anything, Sony is doing Nintendo a favor by providing competition, and thus giving Nintendo ways to improve the next SSB.

Sony's characters aren't interesting for a game like this. Boy I sure can't wait to play as Killzone guy or Resistance dude. The game looks like a fucking carbon copy. They could've done something new and interesting and instead they are just aping Nintendo as always.

    @Dain22: @hermes: and @MentalDisruption:

The stage at 0:40 and 1:38 in the video looks like it is based on Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy and the stage at 1 minute and 1:28 looks like it is based off Ratchet and Clank with God of War’s Hydra in the background.

Would it be wrong to say put in Aeris and Sephiroth, just so you can carry out every match one of Playstation's most memorable scene in this?

Really uninspired level design is not helping this at all. It looks like they're putting out a lazy clone for fans of the Smash Bros franchise that don't have Wiis. The trouble here is this game seems to lack all the charm and polish that Smash Bros has.

I would sooner see Sega attempt this style of game than Sony.

Nope. Even after three tries, it's still a horribly shitty name.

If Parappa is in the game, then anything from NaNa On-Sha is fair game and I therefore support Vibri. Her Final Smash equivalent can be this haunting song she'll sometimes sing in Vib-Ribbon if you're competent enough at finishing a level:

I've been wanting a Final Fantasy that had a job system where unlock able or DLC skills would be from characters in other games. The Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed uniforms in FF13-2 (god a terrible numbering scheme) just make it that much more obvious what needs to happen.

Ugh. I can't believe people think this is a valid point of view.

As always? Really? We're just going to ignore their stellar, varied and sometimes plain risky first party and funded third party software for a whole generation? Them leading the way in having the most open platform and flexible online service of any console manufacturer? Having the best device connectivity between handheld and home consoles?

Sure, they joined in on the motion controls craze, I get it. Doesn't mean we can ignore how much they've given this gen.

Reasons why this will be better than any Smash Bros.:

    Looking forward to this already.

You don't sound like the sort of person I'd want to play a game like this against. Smash Bros. isn't meant to be a competitive tournament game. People that want to see Smash Bros. At EVO are out of their minds. Even if this Sony game is supposedly more "balanced", it doesn't change the fact that everything else about it is unappealing.

What I'm gleaning from this thread is

"I don't know jackshit about any games on the PlayStation, therefore any character they bring up will have no charm or personality and Sony does not have the ability to support a roster for a Smash clone, ignoring that Nintendo has used multiple characters from the same series to pad out their roster"

I'm sure you were all Ice Climbers, Pit, Marth, Roy, Ness, Lucas, Olimar, Ike, etc. experts when Smash, Melee and Brawl came out. Newsflash, a lot of the Smash roster is B tier and below characters from low selling series that no one has fucking heard of and most people will not recognize anyone beyond Mario, Bowser, Peach and Pikachu. This is not speaking about the quality of the characters or the games. So don't try to bring up these asinine claims that "Nintendo characters are iconic" or whatever nonsense keeps getting spewed.

Personally, I don't know who the hell Radec is and I played through Killzone 2! Fat Princess? Who?

Now what I'm seriously jazzed about is that someone at Sony still remembers PaRappa. And if you don't who he is, well you can just screw off!

@Axelhander: Maj? As in http://sonichurricane.comMaj? That is pretty cool news, I am glad that guy is getting work within fighting games.

But at the same time, pro fighting game players do not necessarily make for a good fighting game; David Sirlin took it upon himself to make various adjustments to Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Edition (still a better name than PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale) during its development and that game has all but been dropped by competitive players in favor of the original version of SSF2T.

@Hailinel: Fighting games can be fun and competitive. Appeasing both audiences instead of taking sides seems beneficiary to me. Not every game has to have Virtua Fighter levels of depth, but at least make me feel like putting time into the game will make me better at it.

I don't think they're looking for balance. They're probably looking for depth. It seems that the approach to balance on this will be the same as others of its ilk, which is to make everyone overpowered in their own way.

I can understand giving the fans what they want for this but when I saw Buzz! Quiz World for one of the stages I'm starting to question that idea of the fans wanting it as it seemed like a good game but one of those that probably not a lot of people played. They also seemed to miss the chance to put Rico from Killzone in another game where everyone can hate him & the Fat Princess having a Kirby like ability to devour the opponents.

Pretty much what this man has said is right the notion that Nintendo's roster is more relevant is nonese the worst thing about it is that Smash Brothers isn't about that is about having a bunch of characters kicking the crap out of each other.

News Flash: It is a rip-off. A very blantant one. That's not a lawsuit-worthy offense, though.

    This game needs to include,

    1. An F-14 Tomcat (Ace Combat)

    2. All 8 trillion Suikoden characters at the same time.

    3. Dude from Cool Boarders

    4. Deceased Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna from Ayrton Senna's Kart Duel.

So the fat princess has Princess Peach's moveset (or at least her hip bump). I get it.

before the "oh my gawd its a blatant ripoff" comments begin,

The King of Fighters was released by SNK in 1994

Fighter's Megamix was released by Sega in 1996

X-Men vs Street Fighter was released by Capcom in 1996

You're right; Smash Bros. looked identical to all of those games. Everyone stop whining.

    Woosh

KoF had SF Team dudes working on it.

FMM had both KoF and SF Team dudes working on it.

X-Men vs Street Fighter had FMM, KoF and SF Team dudes working on it.

Know why? Same dudes worked on all three games. More importantly all three games had major differences which affected gameplay in a major way and they were all part of the SF and SF vs legacy and evolution.

Those examples do not relate to this SB ripoff situation in any way.

    Woosh indeed.

A few friends of mine have been following this since it was first announced. I wonder if the fighting community will hate this too?

This makes me realise I don't have as much an affinity/ attachment to Playstation characters as I do Nintendo characters - even though I'd much rather fire up my PS3 right now over my Wii.

I guess Nintendo never really left the "mascot era" behind. Their characters are older, more iconic, have had more games and they have a stronger history of mashups and guest appearances. They're also mostly more cartoony. Seeing "realistic" characters in a game like this is odd, much like Snake in Brawl was odd.

I don't especially like the idea of each stage being a mash-up. Smash Bros. stages were able to stand on their own.

If she can't throw Turnips she's useless to me.
