PlayStation All-Stars Opening revealed + Final Boss

#1 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19367 posts) -

This opening of SuperBot Entertainment's upcoming title is awesome. Wasn't expecting much, but I think it's really well done.

From the PlayStation blog, the game's apparently finally gone gold, which seems kinda late since it's supposed to release in less than 2 weeks, right? Anyways, the end of that trailer reveals that the final boss is the highly demanded Polygon Man, mascot of the original PlayStation in North America.

Honestly, Polygon Man is a pretty awesome surprise. I had completely forgotten about him up until seeing those eyes again, then the wave of nostalgia came flooding back.

It's still rather disappointing that Crash is nowhere to be seen in the roster/trailer/etc, though.

U R NOT READY

First time I hear about this polygon man but I guess it fits the purpose... either that or a giant Kevin Butler.

Hah, that's a nice throw-back - kudo's Sony. I don't have a PS3, but I would love to be able to play this; looks like a lot of fun.

I FUCKING CALLED IT! YEAH POLYGON MAN!

That video is really cool but I just can't get into the game. I wish they had made a regular fighting game with those characters.

Thats a pretty awesome intro, I am so excited for this game.

Like Smash Bros Melee, maybe they'll include a health bar mode in the custom rules?

Not bad, not bad...

The highlight was definitely Sackboy vs. Big Daddy. :P

Definitely disappointed that this basically confirms Crash and Spyro won't be in though. :(

@WarlockEngineerMoreDakka: Secret characters or maybe the inevitable dlc :P

Watching that made me realise they actually have a fairly strong cast of characters. Apart from the fact that 10% of playable characters in the game are Cole McGrath, obviously.

I just can't look past the gameplay though, it seems so awful.

I can dig a Polygon Man boss. I half expected Master Foot.

Not a bad intro. Would have liked to see some stages or something rather than the generic blueish background. Still well done though.

The trailer looks very cool. Too bad it still doesn't make the game desirable in my eyes, no health bar is a bummer.

Also, 20% of the characters are not even Sony owned (Raiden, Dante, Big Daddy, and Heihachi) and 3 of those (BD, Raiden, Dante) are the most interesting looking characters in the game.

Yup, because Activision is doing so much with Crash right now. It would totally be a lost if they gave it back to Sony.

You have a point. I can't pinpoint why but the jumbling of Sony characters does not work all that well. It is probably due to tone. Nintendo strives for a certain tone so all those characters fit well together. Plus Smash has it's own style not related to any other Nintendo game so it helps. Thirdly most of the characters in Smash are old and have a classic status. Not so much for characters like fat princess and Nariko.

I can understand what you mean, it's very weird seeing Parappa's weird frame next to the super serious Kratos, who only lusts for blood and vengeance. Things like that don't click with this game. With SSB Nintendo kind of makes all the characters out to be a little goofy, even the serious ones like Samus and Ganondorf. I can't really describe how they do that - I think their animation plays a big part. In PSA it's just a lot of really clashing characters using signature moves that don't fit the mood of anyone else.

That hate isn't directed towards you, it's directed to what is probably the greediest company in the industry.

I played the beta and it was pretty awesome. Polygon Man is a terrific choice for the final boss. Sony is doing a fairly good job with this. Here's hoping for more DLC characters from the Playstation family.

#28 Posted by BlatantNinja23 (930 posts) -

intro is kinda disappointing... not really sure how I felt about the beta.

Song name is "Madeon - Finale", by the way.

I don't think it fit at all. Hopefully the game has original music from all the games or remixes or whatever, than shitty licensed music that belongs in an EA game.

Amazing! Just when I thought nothing could beat the Smash Bros. Brawl Intro, this comes along and mops the floor with it. That Kratos/Sweet Tooth paring was awesome, as was finally seeing that Jak/Ratchet match-up we have been waiting for for so long.

When I first heard Polygon Man was the boss, I totally didn't know who he was and thought Suberbot made a boss that was inspired by Smash Bros' Fighting Polygon Team. But once I read further into who this character was, I must say, Superbot picked a brilliant equivalent to Smash's Master Hand. I tip my hat to the developers!

Watching the trailer got me so hyped for this game! I played a ton of the beta, I went to the event they had in LA, and played the final build there. I cannot fucking wait! Also, does anyone have anything on Polygon Man. I've been looking for some videos but it's really hard.

I tried to find something for you and the best I could come up with was this thread on Giant Bomb from 2 and a half years ago.

I also found this PS2 ad that was pretty neat during my search for some video of polygon man:

that sackboy/big daddy rivalry is pretty great. curious about raiden/cole though. does raiden just want all the blue lightening or is he just following orders? also a drake/sweet tooth rivalry woulda been funny, him hating clowns and all.

haha, yep. having raiden, dante, and heihachi makes sense though, coonsidering how big the mgs, dmc,and tekken games had been for the ps1/ps2 era. big daddy's just a wierd fuckin choice. at least, like you said, he looks interesting ingame.
