If the idea of using the Move navigation controller alongside its Move counterpart seems unpleasant for one reason or another, you do have an option: use a DualShock controller in the navigation controller's stead.

During a recent E3 2010 presentation, Sony R&D dude Anton Mikhailov busted out the knowledge that the navigation controller and the DualShock are interchangeable. This means you'll be able to roll with a DualShock in one hand with the Move wand in the other--just like the Resident Evil 5 dudes did during a TGS demo in 2009 (via Joystiq).

But having spent some time with the Move and its navigation controller, I can say that this alternate method of control is a bad idea. There's a reason the navigation controller is so small, light, and contoured; and it has something to do with how ridiculous it would be to use a standard controller with just one hand.

The Move and navigation controller were recently priced by Sony at its E3 2010 media briefing. Expect the navigation controller, and comfort, to run you about 30 bones.

Yea I do feel like using one half of a Dualshock is kind of dumb, especially if you have a better option

This is good news for those who want to get the full experience, but don't feel like giving out the 30 (or was it 40?) extra bucks for the Nav. of course, once you get the kinda gunky feel, you'll probably be inclined to get it anyway...so I suppose all sides win?

The way I see it is if you just have enough to get MOVE you can get move and get the navigation controller (they need a name for that also) at a later time.

Sit down with friend, give him a regular controller while you control the move stick (or vice versa) It's like the olden days of playing doom where one person used the move keys and the other spammed the shoot button! (or was I the only one doing that? did I just say something totally weird?)

What the hell? How? You're suppose to hold the Move in one hand and the navigation controller in another, the the Wii. How are you suppose to do that with a DualShock?

The way I see it, unless you already own the PS Eye, Move is basically 100$. That gets you the bundle with the Eye, both controllers and a game, so that's what you'd want. That's what I'm getting.

if you are sitting down to play(and who wouldn't be sitting?) then it isn't that big a deal. Unless you flail the controller wildly. I wouldn't pay $30 + tax for that piece of plastic. there is a difference between getting something you want and getting ripped off for what you want. i'll let you pick which category you want to fall under.

Maybe i'll find a way to secure the regular ps3 controller to my left hand. Like using some sort of nylon strap that can secure the controller from falling off your hand that goes around the controller to your wrist. Just throwing out ideas because I will not buy this controller thing.

well, I think this is kinda neat.

I already a pseye, so for only 50 bucks I could get into this, and I think that's ok for games like socom 4 for example, you'll be sitting while playing that, even with the Move, so you could use the dualshock while resting it in your lap, that way you don't put any strain in your hand, could work.

If you are sitting, you can play with the ds3 on your leg. I've tried it, and the weight of the joystick is the problem, but that solves it.
But I wonder about the face buttons present in the Nav. Those are impossible to press

I do not think it would be THAT akward. The sub controller has what is on the left side on the DS3 controller. And the main remote has the buttons. So it might not be to bad.

wait a second. the X and O buttons are on the right side of the controller, so to use them you need to go over to the other side and press them. At that point you might as well USE THE FUCKING CONTROLLER!!!

If I use it, I'll probably get the navigator still, though the jury is out on whether I'll buy into Move at all or not yet.

I think that's a great idea. I'll be buying a Sub Controller when I buy a Move, but knowing that if I want to buy another I don't have to buy yet another Sub Controller is great. Good move, Sony.

I like the idea because I really don't want to have to buy more controllers than necessary.  Although I have to say it is probably going to be very awkward to hold a dualshock instead of the nav controller.

Not interested in any of this unless I can get the camera, a remote, the nav, and some toss in mini-game collection for $60 Canadian or cheaper. Unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Even though it's fairly light, the weight is enough that I imagine this would have somewhat of an impact on your wrist after a decent gaming session due to the imbalance of the weight in your hand.

I tried holding a dual shock with one hand and it wasn't a good experience.  The analog stick placement makes it very uncomfortable.  I was doing it and moving the stick and after about 30 seconds I could feel that some muscle in my left hand (I'm right handed) was getting a workout and started to burn.  I don't know how a person could keep that up for a half hour unless they regularly use that hand workout thing with the springs in it.

@Oni: That $99 bundle doesn't come with both controllers.  It's just eye toy, move and a game.

The only real issue would be that the navigation controller has more buttons in one place than the dualshock, right? The Nav has triggers, a d-pad and 2 buttons, but if you're holding the left side of the dualshock, you're missing those two buttons. I guess since those buttons are regular face buttons they may have the same use as the ones on the main move controller. Anyway, at least this is a solution for all those dudes who were complaining before. Although some people are now complaining that this is ridiculous. Well make up your mind, either pay 30 bones for the nav, or use a dual shock.

The move is way too costly! I'll buy one eventually but theyr'e gona have to make me want one first, and dropping the price is the first thing I'm looking for. Also, if it's just going to be a porting thing, where all the games are the same as with a dualshock controller but with added Move support the games won't be very interesting. I don't like wii ports, I don't see why I would like Move ports.

I hope they have the common-sense to disable the X & O on the Cone when you use the Navigator because it could be a pain to to hit the Square or Triangle without hitting the X or O by accident.

Has anyone tried this with the Sixaxis?  Seems like not having the rumble motors might make that the better controller in this instance...

While this is clearly not optimal, at least it helps to lower the barrier of entry until we can see what kind of experience Move will be.  If the games are there and Move takes off, I won't have any problem investing in the  extra navigation controllers.

That just way too stupid to use a dualshock with one hand. I really don't know how that would exactly work.

the DS3 isn't really that heavy, and the controller has "handles." its a good alternative, but how many games need the sub controller? From what i've seen most of them use the main Move. You could say Socom, but who's gonna play that seriously with the Move?
