Did anyone here try installing firmware 3.15 (newest mandatory version) on a 60 GB playstation 3?
Did you run into any problems? Does it still recognize PS2 games, DVD, Blu Ray, etc...?
EDIT: Holy Shit.......I just now found this:

I am glad I did not update......I would be super pissed off if it bricked my launch 60GB PS3!

Firmware 3.15 Problems
What does it firmware 3.15 even do anyway?
As for the question, it works fine on a 120GB Slim as far as I know since I was playing MW2 on it yesterday.
I installed it, and I could play fine my PS3 games but haven't tryed a DVD, you are scaring me.
Why?
" What does it firmware 3.15 even do anyway? As for the question, it works fine on a 120GB Slim as far as I know since I was playing MW2 on it yesterday. "It does this.
- Bluetooth sync issues fixed
- Trophy syncing issue resolved
- PSP Minis now playable on the PS3 (starting December 17th all PSP minis will be playable on the PS3, for now you must go to your download list and re-download any previously purchased PSP minis for them to function on the PS3)
- XBM Icon Added – Minis Save Data Icon
- LAN Data Transfer Utility
1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV. Please note, firmware (v3.15) must be installed on both systems.
2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings category and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system.
I don't know which one I have currently installed. I think it's been a while since I checked, but I've heard horror stories about 3.15 causing all number of problems including "bricking" the system and damaging the blu-ray. Take a look at all these posts on the subject over at the official Playstation forums. LINK Scary shit!
What problems are you having exactly? Does it read some of them or does it read anything at all? What does it do if you try to insert a DVD/Blu-Ray into it?
" I installed it on my 60 GB back when it was released as an optional update. I haven't noticed any problems. "
" @Liminality: It is hard for me. My only system is a 60GB PS3. I do not own a xbox360. *shrugs* guess I will just play all my games offline until a better firmware is released. "I don't have a 360 either, but I do have a PC with some games.
Anyway I hope that firmware to come out soon so you can play online and I can turn it on.
Was playing Ratchet and Clank today and it crashed, so turned it off and back on again, my ps3 no longer reads any disc put in (doesn't come up on the XMB) and there's no spinning sound. Second time i've had problems with my 60gb ps3 :( Europe here. Dunno if it's a coincidence, but i haven't played my ps3 for over a week due to Mass Effect 2 so i haven't really been using my ps3 since i updated it. Sucks though, my original 60gb launch console broke just 2 weeks before my warrenty of a year ran out and now this, had more trouble with my ps3 than my xbox (although that's broken once as well : | )
