So I've talked about it. Alex Navarro has talked about it. Brad Nicholson has talked about it. But to recap....PSN is down. Now I'm all for humor, but I think that IGN may have played this card a bit too soon.

Now I don't know if you guys had heard about it, but I thought that I would bring it to everyone's attention. IGN...I get what you were trying to do. You were trying to make a light hearted jab at the recent network problems that PSN has been facing. Seriously...I get it! Given your timing though I think its going to be interpreted as more of a stab than a jab. Plus aren't there rules against trolling? I distinctly remember an article about this very issue. Anyway the more important issue is that your colleagues in the journalism community also think that you went a bit too far. You've also probably alienated a good percentage of your fanbase and have ignited a flame war on your own site. As I don't feel that your behavior deserves any attention I have not decided to link to your article. Instead I have posted the above screenshot that has been making its way around the net.

To anyone else reading this, if you want to find the article do a Google search of the title. Again I think its funny, but having said that I can also say that its in pretty poor taste.

*Update*: Apparently IGN is now down, and already the following is making its way around the nets:

Considering the user base of their website that is a pretty bad move.

Also they actually have a podcast solely focused on PS3 games journalism so this's definitely a dumb move on their part.

@Commisar123: I think its funny, but I also strongly believe the timing for this joke is terrible. They could have just as easily have waited until PSN's connectivity was restored before making this joke. Then I think their audience would have been more apt to enjoy it.

We all know IGN is a shitty site.
I was excited to see a Motorstorm: Apocalypse review, but I couldn't get over how badly written the review was. Here's a screenshot from the review. Can you tell me what the hell is going in the "Lasting Appeal" section. Do they edit anything over there?

Eh, some like a cheap reaction?
I wouldn't read too much into it..  but, it does amateur up the site a little bit, unfortunately.

@Surkov: Are you talking about it from a grammatical perspective, or because they gave 8.5 for something that doesn't work? Cause as far as I can see the grammar is fine... but your picture is really small so maybe I'm reading it wrong.

@Weltal: But see, IGN is just playing its fanbase against...its fanbase? Why do that? Don't do that in print, do it on a gaming podcast and have everyone be apart of the joke.

@Burn1n9m4n: I don't believe they're doing that at all. I believe they though it would be funny and, in retort Kristine thought another article would be funny. I'm not sure it really matters that some people will take these articles way too seriously and start fan-boying out.

If you're talking about that comment Microsoft made about PSN being down, IGN weren't the only ones to post a story on it. But yeah, totally unnecessary.

I'm officially done with IGN albeit I only listened to some of their podcasts from time to time. This article/editorial was very tasteless and did not need to be published on a large site such as IGN. The whole pissing off and igniting a war with the fanboys is the LEAST of IGN's worries IMO. The publication of this article to me, seems like a horrible decision which would only lead to terrible relations with Sony. Doesn't seem very business savy.

OK as stupid as this is going to sound, I've been racking my brain trying to think of why that sentence doesn't sound right to me. Its the usage of the word 'job' that's making my sense of grammar take a walk off the map. After looking at the article again though I realized its on IGN UK so maybe its a UK sentence construction....or something. Fuck I don't know. I'm confused. :-/

Haha, I knew this was a language barrier thing. In the UK and Australia among other places, 'good job' is used as a compliment.

Yeah, I've just read through that multiple times, and there isn't a grammatical error to be found. Maybe the could have hyphened split-screen...?

If it wasn't for the fact that we are still unsure if personal information for PSN users could have been compromised then I probably would have found this to be funnier. If it turns out to be true then later on this will seem like it was done in poor taste.

@EVO: In US English its also used as a compliment, but if with this sentence it would probably have read something more like: "Good thing the offline splitscreen works so well." Which would have made more sense in context (at least for me anyway...) If they wanted to use 'Good job' they probably could have said it differently or had the phrase 'good job' used as a standalone sentence as is the case in US English. However, if they did that it would probably come off as being a bit sarcastic and snarky. But you can use it that way correctly in US and AUS English, eh? Interesting....learn something new everyday.
