Yeah...The PlayStation Network isn't coming up this weekend.

#1 Posted by Gabriel (4062 posts) -

Want to take bets whether it will be up by next Friday? In his letter to the PlayStation blog Patrick Seybold apologizes for not meeting their previous deadline for system restoration (at least online play) and doesn't even ballpark a figure for when online play will be back up. So keep on playing MK offline guys, I know how much fun everyone has playing against Shao Khan.

As you may know, we’ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.

As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.

When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we’re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

I'm only half-joking when I say I wonder if we'll have online play back before E3 starts.

Don't worry gentleman. Surely we can find entertainment elsewhere. Optimism doesn't work well in this case.

I bought Mortal Kombat and I want to play it online damn it! Granted I'm not very good and would probably get my ass handed to me but thats not the point!

It's fucking spring, and the weather has been fan-tastic these past few weeks.

Go out and play baseball, go to a cafe and hit on chicks, or hang out with friends.  PSN being down had close to no affect on me what-so-ever.

#7 Posted by JeanLuc (3579 posts) -
@KaosAngel: Actually all we've been getting in cloudy skies, cold weather, and tons of rain for the past two weeks. Basically the perfect time to stay inside and play video games. I bet you anything the weather will become great once PSN is back up.

I'm busy playing Xbox and watching netflix. it'll be back before you know it, relax for a bit.

#9 Posted by Slaker117 (4838 posts) -

Well damn. I don't have a PS3 so this doesn't effect me, but it's still interesting to watch. Completely crazy that it has been down this long. I feel sorry for SOCOM.

I highly doubt they'll get it back this month, if they do it will get taken down again before a week even passes. so glade i am a multi-platform gamer.

You, you have betrayed everything gamers stand for.

You have no experience with the Pacific northwest.

@wasteguru:
I feel your pain!

Did you enter your online pass code prior to PSN going down?  I didn't buy the game until after PSN went down.  I won't even be able to play it online when it comes back up since the store won't be up for a while.  What a joke.

Maybe Sony is getting Valve to rebuild PSN because this is some serious Valve Time style shit

I need to play Portal 2 with my inferior console counterparts.

How can I know I'm better than them if I can't remind them directly, to their faces.
#20 Posted by Portis (1287 posts) -

Welp, I've finished every backlogged game I had on Xbox 360 since this outage started, and now I'll start on the Sly Collection -- so I've got stuff to keep me busy. But still, it'd be nice to get back to playing Motorstorm: Apocalypse online. (I have an import copy, I had been playing it for a month before the downtime -- I really miss playing it online...)

#21 Posted by Unchained (1080 posts) -

So long as the next time I input any personal or payment data into the PSN network, I don't have that information compromised then I really don't care if they take the extra time.

#22 Posted by SharkEthic (1043 posts) -

The new SOCOM has been laying unopened on my table for a week now. Don't make me play the shitty single player campaign Sony, DON'T MAKE ME FUCKING DO IT!!

#23 Posted by ShaneDev (1696 posts) -

Thank God, for a while there I thought Sony might actually get something right. I cant wait for the press conference at E3 but they will more than likely just say something small about it and continue on as if it never happened.

#24 Posted by Chaser324 (6440 posts) -
@ShaneDev:
I seriously doubt they'll acknowledge it at all. Hell, they're barely even acknowledging it now. Aside from the press conference last weekend, getting Sony to talk about this incident has been like pulling teeth.

Who wants to bet that at E3 MS or Nintendo will comment the dumbasses that are Sony?

#26 Posted by FritzDude (2262 posts) -

@DrMcKittrick:
Nah, but they will say something like this:

"Microsoft not online offers the best sofa and gaming experience, but also the most secure online experience."

Ha. I live in Bismarck, North Dakota and you know how long it's been since it's snowed? 5 days. Spring is something that happens in 3 day intervals at the end of Winter here.

Color me surprised. Oh well. I suppose it's better that they take their time and get this whole security thing right.

Don't you sometimes want to go and help Sony figure this all out? They're kinda like your grandmother trying to work a remote. You kinda feel sorry for them and just want to do it for them. But then you realize how old they are, and how long they've had to figure it out, that's when you get irritated.

#29 Posted by raynate2022 (301 posts) -

This is what happens. I promised myself I'd only buy multi platform games on the 360. I finally buy Portal 2 for the steam features and THIS! I'm still excited to someday play portal co op though.  My guess is this E3 will have ALOT of apologizing in it

#30 Posted by Lemoncookie01 (1667 posts) -

FFS,I just want to play MK online.Come on sony,don't make start a useless petition I swear I'll do it.

#31 Posted by BaconGames (3371 posts) -

That's a shame.  Oh well.

#32 Posted by Chaser324 (6440 posts) -
@raynate2022
I stand by my prediction that they won't speak a word about it. I'll also wager that if PSN is down for much longer, Kaz might get a colder crowd reaction than Roger Goodell got at the NFL draft.

Man, this really blows for the PlayStation-only guys. It really seems like Sony's security team have no idea what they're doing to be down for a matter of weeks.

#34 Posted by Hailinel (24431 posts) -

I wonder how many complaints Sony has gotten so far stating that Nintendo's online service is currently better than their own.

#35 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19331 posts) -

Ugh, I really want to play Demon's Souls but I'm not as online is really integral to the experience. Hopefully they get it back up next week.

Yup, I imagine we will be hearing a lot of stuff that is "secure". That will be the word of E3.

Hah, yeah that would be great for them to do.

I am starting to wonder if I will EVER get to use my copy of Socom 4. Seriously though some developers who are making online heavy games have got to be worried about how this is going to affect their sales on the ps3.

#39 Edited by MrKlorox (11209 posts) -

I wish I had never let Sony sucker me into buying Portal 2 for PS3. Waiting and waiting just so I can link my Steam and PSN accounts makes me feel like an asshole. I should just sell my damn disc copy and buy the real thing on Steam.

I imagine that Mortal Kombat at least has to have received a 360 sales bump.

If its up by wednesday, then I dont really care. Wouldn't have played PS3 at all anyway last month cus of uni exam revision.

Of all people, you are the last one I would picture going out to a cafe and hitting on chicks.

Oh sure, some Brits get married and it makes all the headlines, but PSN CRASHES IN A SEA OF HELLFIRE and the world doesn't even notice!

Am I the only one who was planing to buy FF7 this coming week?  It's gotta be the best game on the PS3.

You think a PS1 game from over a decade ago is the best game on the PS3?

dear god I hope not.

It would just take one dip shit on 4chan to take that as a challenge and all this happens again.

I dont think the press would really like it ether and see any comments as being arrogant but once MS gives everyone a free new smaller Kinect camera + console at the end of there show I'm pretty sure they could have the names,  addresses and CC numbers of everyone on PSN streaming on the big screen the whole show and game journalists wont care.

Nintendo are too god damn classy for console war shit.    Maybe they will a comment about how secure online on there new console will be but nothing really directly aimed at anyone.
