Month-Long PSN Exclusives Promotion Starts Tomorrow

Rochard involves a bit of platforming, but it's mostly about manipulating objects with gravity.

Xbox Live Arcade is hardly a perfect ecosystem, but the company's made its annual summer promotion one of the places to be for developers. It doesn't ensure success--but it helps.

Sony hasn't committed to a similar push for PlayStation Network releases, despite having its own exhaustive slate of exclusive content. Sony's looking to turn that around with "Only on PlayStation Network."

The promotion kicks off October 4, starting with the atmospheric Eufloria and physics-based platformer Rochard, which Brad and I already took a (quick) look at. "Only on PlayStation Network" continues through the rest of October, sometimes with one new release, other times with two.

Some long requested classics are going digital this month, too. God Hand, GrimGrimoire, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, Odin Sphere and Ring of Red will all be available starting tomorrow.

As a bonus, anyone with a PlayStation Plus account receives 20% off each game, and if you spend $60 on PSN (games, movies, music, whatever), Sony will give you $10 to also spend on PSN.

The full list of games coming this month (sans Rochard, which is already out) is as follows:

It's worth noting inFamous 2: Festival of Blood doesn't actually require you to own inFamous 2, a welcomed change of pace.

Do not care about first but when the chance comes I will try at random. Ugh.. I need a shower now. So dirty.

Still have my PS2 and my copies of God Hand and Maximo, but I'm definitely interested in the rest. Awesome!

#4 Posted by Elow (45 posts) -

Very excited that the festival of blood doesn't require Infamous 2 since I traded that in. I wonder if they will also give us access to the online portion (where people create missions, it has a acronym, but I forget what it was).

As a fan of God Hand I approve of this! Always wanted to try Odin Sphere too.

#6 Posted by TwilitEnd656 (617 posts) -

God Hand and Odin Sphere? Two titles I missed out on. Count me in.

#7 Posted by WJist (311 posts) -

How crazy would it be if Sony put up the larger portion of the PS2 library on PSN? That would be kind of awesome.

#8 Posted by SMTDante89 (2470 posts) -

Definitely picking up God Hand. Lost my copy years ago and I've been wanting to play it again.

#9 Posted by BulletproofMonk (2712 posts) -

I would definitely like to check out God Hand.

God Hand and Maximo...

My Body is Ready

#11 Posted by ViciousAnchovy (690 posts) -

I've heard good things about God Hand, and after playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade, I've been interested in Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire. This is great news for me.

#12 Posted by lead_farmer (1038 posts) -

Ring of Red? Really? I still have that game. Seems like a strange choice.

Ugh, Rochard seems tedious. It's the first demo I ever turned off out of pure boredom. There are no heavyhitters but it's not the worst lineup I guess.

Festival of Blood sounds interesting since I don't have inFamous 2.
And Okabu too, it looks so cute.

God Hand. Festival of Blood, and Rochard are the ones i'm pumped for. also when does payday the heist come out?

#16 Posted by msavo (7522 posts) -

I've always been interested in Odin Spehere and God Hand. I'm defiantly picking those up along with Eufloria and a couple other exclusives. I'll spend $60 no problem.

GOD HAND GOD HAND GOD HAND GOD HAND GOD HAND GOD HAND

This is the first time I'll have double-dipped on a game with no justification for my actions, I just fucking love that game.

Sign me up when they put Okami and Dragon Quest VIII on there.

Rochard is a lot of fun, plus there is a demo

#21 Posted by Zaxex (569 posts) -

Can you buy PS2 games on the PSN store, like you can with some Xbox games on the 360 already?

#22 Posted by biscuitfrenzy (82 posts) -

Myarm myarm myarm myarm I summon up a download of the GOD HAND!

Seriously pumped about this, even though according to the PSN blog there won't be any Trophy support or HD-ifying of the PS2 games.

God Hand's ending credit sequence is one of my favorite things. Also it got me to look into and enjoy surf rock. Great game.

Odin Sphere had far to many endings but was definitely worth playing.

#24 Posted by Vorbis (2748 posts) -

Been longing to play Odin Sphere, please let this include EU aswell.

#25 Posted by Ett (151 posts) -

I own most of them. lets see how they look on the ps3. maybe will buy godhand again.

#26 Posted by BenderUnit22 (1361 posts) -

OH SHIT! ODIN SPHERE! *runs to his PS3*

#27 Posted by Vestigial_Man (308 posts) -

Hooray! Most of the recent PSN releases look pretty good. I will probably go for the free credit if it comes to the UK.

#28 Posted by TinyGallon (193 posts) -

Nice little promo - it seemed like these games were going to get hung out to dry after their recent "Playstation Play" promotion

Speaking of which - I wonder if this sale will inspire the same amount of insane blind gamer rage that the Play promo did..

Also, you'd think Payday would be a part of this. But I guess that was in the previous promo

So this is how Sony introduces PS2 games on PSN? Without any sort of big announcement? Simply: "Hey, PSN-exclusive games are hitting the store. Also: PS2 games."

#30 Posted by Goblin (173 posts) -

Hell yes! I already have a copy of God Hand somewhere, but I'll buy it again just to always have it on my hard drive.

God power keeps my pimp hand strong. Other than that, RocketBirds seems like the only must-buy for me.

#31 Posted by Sammo21 (3016 posts) -

All 4 of those PS2 games are awesome. While I still own my original copies I will gladly rebuy them so I can play them discless on my PS3 slim in the living room (launch 60GB in the bedroom).

#32 Posted by YoungFrey (1319 posts) -

Rochard has been out for a week, how is it part of this thing?
#33 Posted by Zippedbinders (980 posts) -

I now eagerly anticipate people picking up God Hand on a whim and then complaining about the difficulty.

Still, this PS2 stuff feels out of nowhere, I'm not even sure which harder to find PS2 games I'd want to see.

#34 Posted by popmasterruler (570 posts) -

Very cool,I hope Okami is added to the list soon though(Move support would be very welcome).

DQVIII needs to be ported and re-translated to either the Vita or the 3DS. Since these PS2 games are just straight up emulations, there's no point of buying them if you already own them.

#36 Posted by Tfosorcim (1 posts) -

The lead is buried in this article, no? The big story here is that PS2 games are being made available on PSN not that there's some promotion.

Unless you recently hooked up your PS2 to play God Hand and discovered that it will no longer read disks.

#38 Posted by OriginalGman (290 posts) -

@Vorbis: Sony Europe said this will eventually come to EU as well.

#39 Posted by SSully (4059 posts) -

Eufloria is a great game, I would know since it came out on PC like 3 years ago.

#40 Edited by JackSukeru (5815 posts) -

Cool. Maximo Ghosts to Glory is one of my favorite PS2 games, though kind of ugly and hard in the old schoolest of ways. I really prefer VS Army of Zin at this point but since I don't have a copy of Ghosts I might pick it up sometime.

Who knows, I might check out God Hand and Odin Sphere on a whim to sometime in the future too.

I also played the Rochard demo and that was pretty fun.

I guess they still don't want to completely shoot PS2 sales in the foot? I honestly don't even know what the sales numbers are like for that system anymore, but perhaps they are still high enough for them to want people to own both? I'm super happy I just ordered a new 500gb hard drive for my 80gb MGS PS3 yesterday.

#42 Posted by Christoffer (1645 posts) -

I'll take that Odin Sphere thankyouverymuch. Can only hope the framerate is slightly more tolerable.

#43 Posted by thechronodarkness (294 posts) -

So, they've started releasing the least technological ps2 games on the psn first. Emulation does take some serious power. I can play crysis fine. Emulate a ps2 game? Not all of them. I just don't understand why sony would take the emotion chip out of the ps3 in the first place. Like they're loosing any more money. Guess just to sell the same games on psn, and make certain people happy.

#44 Posted by Blaqueronin (13 posts) -

The Onimusha series should be added next, also the mega man X collection would be nice as well. I hope Sony makes this a regular thing. On another note does anyone think this has any thing to do with the October 5 announcement.

#45 Posted by Eujin (1293 posts) -

@Christoffer: So, I have a launch 60GB PS3. I can't say if I'm crazy or not, but I've played Odin Sphere both on it and on my regular PS2, in disc form. There is a chance that the framerate issues are random, but when I fought one of the bosses on my PS2, framerate issues abound. When I played the same boss on my PS3, no issues at all.

I've had another friend confirm the same thing with Odin Sphere for me, but neither of us can remember if they saw framerate jankiness anywhere while playing on the PS3, or if it was just smoother all along while being emulated on it.

I want a brand new onimusha
#47 Posted by msavo (7522 posts) -

@OriginalGman: Which hard drive did you get? I've been looking for a 500GB to throw into my slim PS3.

#48 Posted by kennybaese (651 posts) -

Nice. I was wondering to myself when the hell Festival of Blood was going to come out. Not a huge fan of Vampires, but I'll tak any excuse to play some more inFAMOUS.

#49 Posted by skafjeld (1 posts) -

I guess that sony will give us in the EU the shitstick as usual.

saying it will get to europe eventually makes me a sad nerd.
