Do you think GiantBomb Should get the psn on the achievements?

If you mean should GiantBomb track Trophies, they cant Sony don't share that data in a way they can use. They would if they could.

If your talking about tracking trophies they can't. Sony won't allow people to do that. They use to be able too. Check the inFamous page. Trophy stats are on there.

They used to do this, but for some reason Sony doesn't put out those API's anymore.

I mean Trophy's but as i can see Sony does not want to send trophy data.

Raptr does it, so there has to be a way.

Yep, looks like Raptr started up their trophy tracking again recently.

Is Sony allowing it now? Someone should let the Whiskey engineers know so they can bring it back.

Raptr not only tracks trophies but every time you play a game for the first time it also adds it to your list of games and posts i as an achievement just for starting the game, if you use their client you can also log to PSN with it and see all your online psn friends and what they are playing.

so it is definitely doable.

It's a shame that they put all that work into trophy integration only for Sony to shut it down.

Oh wow, if they can do it, surely Giant Bomb can too. It's not like Raptr is a huge company (even though they are partnered with Gamespot).

@xenexprime: Yes, I'm familiar with what Raptr does. :) Even though only trophies were mentioned in the post, I assumed the other stuff was possible too.
Giant Bomb doesn't need all the functionality of Raptr though, it just needs to do what it already does with Xbox Live. Even if the API has the same limitations as Steam does (which I'm sure it doesn't), it's still enough to work with.

I've no doubt they can do it. I think the issue right now is that they probably don't realize they can yet. Has anyone informed the engineers, and if so have they received a response?

Sony's API was reopened in July. You can track your trophies with 3rd party apps like raptr. It fucking astounds me that Giant Bomb hasn't started tracking trophies again, but I guess the engineers were busy building things like the mobile site and the members features and the multipass.

Trophy tracking still can't be done in the same way 360, Steam and WoW achievement tracking is done on Giant Bomb. Check out this link again and you'll notice it clearly says the following...

Having your PSN ID entered on raptr.com is NOT enough to keep your trophies up to date! You MUST run the Raptr Client.

In short Raptr are telling a half-truth. Sure they can provide updated Trophy information for your PSN profile. Provided you synch your Trophy data on the console, then login to your Raptr account via their client and keep said client running to then synch the data itself to present an up-to-date list of Trophy information. And you have to do this every single time after you earn a new Trophy for it to present that updated information. In essence it's no different to what the various Forum signature cards have been doing for ages now.

Basically the situation with Sony and it's closed door policy with its Trophy data API is still very much the same as it was back when the announcement was made.

Wow, it would be nice if they could start tracking again, sure work on fixing the bogus changes Microsoft made to the dashboard first, but it would be a nice project to tackle after that.

@Hamz: Forgive my ignorance, isn't what the Raptr client does something that the Giant Bomb servers could also do?
I mean, if that client is extracting the trophy stuff by syncing data... that's exactly how the GB servers sweep for Xbox 360 and WoW data every few hours isn't it?

When the trophy stuff was working, you just had to make sure your trophies were synced with PSN, and Giant Bomb would grab 'em. It looks like that's essentially all that Raptr is doing.
The only difference is that you have to tell Raptr to do it, whereas Giant Bomb does it automatically, on a semi-regular basis.
