Hunk up and play.

@Squeedom Something tells me it's because of the way they're auto uploading or something? I don't think any of them are actually in the offices at the moment and it doesnt go through iTunes too. I expect them to be on iTunes Monday/ Tuesday I think

The Northies is always my favorite award.

Posted by buckybit

I don't know why I keep listening to the most meaningless conversations about the most nonsense "awards".

It's like "we cannot evaluate what makes really good games really good, so we make fun of top-10 lists and here's that - let's talk more about my taste of music..."

IT'S NORTHIES 2013 TIME.

It's 12pm Central Time, so it's precisely on time for me! = D

*EDIT* THE LAST NORTHIE?!?!?! BUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

Edited by CaLe

When are The Northies going to become The Bakeries?

I typed this before it was mentioned on the podcast. Great minds think alike.

the podcasts are getting shorter!

Posted by DefaultProphet

WELP now I know why Skrillex/Marley song wasn't mentioned for best use of licensed song. Why did I ever doubt you GBCrue?

Early is good.

Slow it down. I just dissed you.

Time to Hunk up some

Posted by guilherme

best time of the year!

Posted by LegendaryChopChop

I love listening to the Bombcast as much as anyone, but I'm glad these are turning out to be around an hour or two each instead of 3-4 hours like they've been. Much easier to catch up and listen to.

Posted by George_Hukas

HAHA FUCK YOU NOLAN NORTH!

FUCK YOU AND YOUR AWARD SO HARD. GOOD RIDDANCE.

Posted by buckybit

... and this year too, when they start to talk about "graphics" - ouch!

Especially Brad these days feels comfortable to throw around the "tech-babble sound" he heard so much, mimicking it, making you laugh.

Posted by Ares42

Oh god, the "PLEASE STOP!" category is genius!

Posted by TehJedicake

? I don't even like dubstep but I think they're completely wrong, dubstep isn't going anywhere for a while.

Posted by zenmastah

Dubstep has existed officially for about seven years now, and it will continue to exist for a long time still.

Posted by Munkatten

@buckybit:

Haven't listened yet, but I feel Patrick has been the most hilarious when it comes to inserting misunderstood technobabble into the podcast.

Posted by Tr0n

Guild Wars 2 missing for best-looking. A great marriage of concept art and in-game assets.

Edited by zenmastah

@buckybit: So far hes saying that Far Cry 3 has very unstable framerate on consoles, wich is correct.

If that makes you laugh, more power to you.

Posted by Fistfulofmetal

How quick they took Hitman off the list is criminal... CRIMINAL! The PC version is stunning.

Posted by Draxyle

The deliberation over good looking games.. amazing. Ryan is a harsh bastard by cutting Stay Dead and Asura's Wrath; killing the dreams and ideals of both Jeff and Brad.

Posted by BBQBram

No Max Payne in most beautiful game, not even a nomination or on the list? What the actual fuck?

Nah, Nolan North in the Nickelodeon TMNT series as the krang droids. Sounds like a horrible Kungfu film dubbing.

PLEASE STOP CAPCPOM

Posted by MeatSim

Don't go away Northies! please stop!

Complaining about DLC being well-integrated and relevant to the story is fucking ridiculous. I'm glad Brad liked ME3, but I liked it before all that added content and the assertion that that stuff was necessary is flat out wrong. I doubt its presence changed many people's minds, in any case.

If standalone side content is the only acceptable form of DLC moving forward, then I'm going to be saving a lot of money, because I'm not going to buy that crap. I want something that enhances my playthrough and future playthroughs of games that I enjoy. I think that's where the disconnect is -- most of the GB crew don't even consider replaying games that they've completed because they are inundated by other games. They can't possibly see the value of playthrough-in-progress DLC.

Glad I didn't have to try to skip around story spoilers in this one like a mad man. Trying to guess when "Best Walking Dead Episode" ended was fun.

Posted by chilibean_3

Oh c'mon. I have no doubt that Mass Effect's DLC was made in an attempt to fix the mess they made.

Posted by MasterRain

I like hearing them talk about dubstep :) I agree that dubstep should disappear from the mainstream, they always just use bad but attention seeking songs, syndicate is a nice exception.

Dubstep and its ilk will prob just blend into house music, and will be under the mainsteam radar. Predictions for next years E3 trailers? LETS GO REGGAE

Likewise. I wanted to complete it before GotY deliberations, but 999 stole my attention instead for December. I'll have to come back later to see what they said on it.

That Syndicate theme plays at the very end, where the female character asks you what you're up to next and just as he cocks the gun that song starts to drop making that ending so much cooler. Unlike that boss fight it works really well.

OBVIOUSLY SPOILERS BELOW

At about 3:15 it starts. I dunno, I thought it was a cool way to end the game even if the ending itself wasn't that great.

Posted by BaconGames

I just wanted to duck in and say Brad was wrong about Prince of Persia 2008, because the "ending" that came out was not really an ending and is a limp seemingly non-canonical extension that provides no closure. Playing without it is much better. Granted, it could have been something like Asura's Wrath but it wasn't. Anyway, I just felt the need to clarify that there's no need to worry about PoP 2008 in terms of DLC.

Kind of confusing how they've made such a big deal of criticising those who dislike Dust because of the character design, but now they criticise the game itself for the 'art style'. Is it so hard to believe that the same art style is a big factor for many people in deciding whether or not to play a hand-drawn side-scroller? A bigger factor, maybe, than implied bigotry...?

Likewise it's just plain weird to discount Hitman so quickly for the way it looks (was Patrick even saying he'd cut it before Dust, whose style he said he disliked??). As someone who borderline hated Hitman, I'd still say it's still undeniably visually stunning, technically and creatively.

Call me a bigot but I can't stand the furry art style and avoid it like the plague. And yes Hitman looks astounding for a current-gen game.

That's kind of the point I'm making and I agree; I just think humanoid animals look stupid, especially when a game is trying to be semi-serious in tone. I didn't see much of the supposed backlash against Dust, but I wouldn't be surprised if it amounted to little more than those similar sort of criticisms.

Pretty much. To think, these are the same people who laughed at the folks who desperately clinged to their "indoctrination theory". Now they've concocted their own crazy excuse for the game finishing out on a whimper "man, if only they included that info dump in the main game... they must have cut it from the game it's the only possible reason!!!"

When they said "leaving for the holidays." What does this mean? Wait, huh, I'm surprised how much Skrillex was in games, I still have no idea what that is other than... a type of music, a band? While I agree that the whole usage of it being played in Black Ops 2 was somewhat unoriginal, that was probably my favorite part of the entire game, and I remember thinking quite a few times when playing the multiplayer (which I rarely do) when running around the stage that had that, that was pretty cool. The Far Cry 3 was just weird, but in a good way. I'm not into that kind of music, but when it's used in a game to effect the situation, I do appreciate it. I hadn't played Syndicate, but I may buy it soon, and not because of Skrillex, ha ha.

And oh, edit - I now know what, or I guess I should say who "Skrillex" is.

I haven't played Dust, but my understanding is that the juxtaposition of the art style and story is quite striking. All the anti furry stuff is nonsense since most of the cartoons that people grew up with had anthropomorphic animals and yes the female animals were usually quite busty.
