Mortal Kombat X moves forward with a snappier version of the previous game's fighting and some cool new characters, but the story and other features around the edges feel a bit rough in spots.
The ways that Axiom Verge resembles Metroid help set up and drive home the ways that Axiom Verge is most definitely not Metroid.
Hotline Miami's thrillingly brutal gameplay is stretched to the point of breaking in this aesthetically pleasing, but otherwise disappointing sequel.
Jeff Gerstmann didn't give the order to open fire on those civilians, you monster!
I'M NOT THE MONSTER, YOU'RE THE MONSTER!
(Yes the gameplay was disappointingly generic)
This game did not have the same effect on me that others got from the story. Was an alright shooter though!
At least Nolan North got a Northie for his performance in it.
The gameplay was good, dammit. It's in the same league as Uncharted, so the panning of the gameplay makes no sense to me.
Yeah, except it's not.
EXCEPT IT IS
I guess the main difference is that Uncharted is fun, fluid and actually has a framerate. Spec Ops really suffers in the technical department. Couple that with the lackluster feel of the combat, and you've got yourself one poorly playing game. Story is interesting, but not really good. I applaud what that game tries to be.
Played the PC version myself, so for me it was pretty solid on the technical side and the shooting felt good with a mouse. It's not anything unique, so I guess I understand long-time reviewers who have played every single third-person shooter since 2006 being unimpressed with it, but I honestly thought the core combat mechanics were right up there with Uncharted (if not the setpieces)
