Extra points for the Sympathy for the Devil music bed.

kinda figured he wouldn't bring up Bloodborne but you not a fan of the Order?

Posted by blue_mayhem

So, you think that maybe like 6 months into the development of Hardline someone turned on the news and was like, "Maybe we should take this in a different directions?", and someone else was like "Naw, this will all blow over soon."

It sounds like he was following a game-per-month format, and ended up having only 10-15 seconds to give an accurate impression of each title as it is.

Only the latest from the world of video games can save us now.

Just a random train of thought, but I don't think these should be as opinionated as they are. The format doesn't really allow for much nuance, inherently speaking, and a lack of nuance usually isn't a markers of a well-formed opinion. But I do suppose that the way you're currently doing it probably draws more ears. Just tossing it out there.

Okay, real talk, who forgot Dying Light was coming out entirely?

The Year of Video Games

Posted by AudioFatigue

I think the Hardline situation is being blown out of proportion here. "I'm surpised it's even still shipping" sounds like a bit of an exaggeration in my opinion.

@heckler: These are radio interstitial segments that CBS radio partner can use as time filler between shows. They are meant to be very concise. I don't know if we should feel bad if someone forms a definitive opinion on something from two sentences about a video game.

I googled "World of Video Games" and got this:

Oh man, every time Mortal Kombat X gets mentioned I get a swelling inner pulsation that tells me it will be the realest shit ever. Even though it probably won't change video games forever, it'll probably change me.

April. Fuck.

Posted by DazzHardy

No Gat out of Hell love ? I'm so exceited for that game I can barely contain it :D

Posted by KaneRobot

@poortommy: it's my most anticipated of next year, but I'm pretty terrified of the multiple-styles-per-fighter thing turning me off to it once I actually have it.

Posted by DJJoeJoe

@heckler: Radio is all about personality, and sound bits. While there's only a short amount of time for each segment he's doing these on a regular basis, and I think the bits of opinions add up to form something of an image for folks that listen.

I don't think anyone wants some robot to read off 'facts' and not actually have a soul.

Looking forward to see how Dying Light turns out (hopefully good as want to get it).

That said Saints Row IV Re-elected (with Gat out of Hell) will be my 1st purchase this year gaming wise.

Okay, real talk, who forgot Dying Light was coming out entirely?

I knew it was coming out, but didn't realize it was this month.

Posted by Cybexx

Its good there is a whole lot of nothing in these first few weeks of January because I've got a bunch of 2014 stuff to finish. For me Grim Fandango Remastered, which comes out the same day as Dying Light, is my most anticipated release for January.

I googled "World of Video Games" and got this:

"Shag", "fancy". Good thing this is overseas.

On Battlefield Hardline, I'm not surprised that it's still coming out as there's enough money put in to that game that EA can't afford to cancel it. I'll take the developer's and publisher's word at face value and believe that saw the need to give Hardline more time to be a better game. As for current cultural issues in the USA, I imagine EA will try to play up the cop action movie fantasy of Hardline as hard as they can in hopes of avoiding flak.

Edited by geirr

Well, there's Bloodborne and.. uh.. Dark Souls 2 dx11 edition ultra. That's about it for me in 2015. Here's hoping for some nice surprises! Like, say, Black Desert getting a NA or EU release date. Heh.

Posted by Mezmero

I definitely want to play Evolve and but I doubt it will hold my attention for long. It's the kind of horror game I can get behind. Jeff's editorial voice is one of the best things.

No mention of Dragon Ball Xenoverse in February? I am shocked.

Posted by AV_Gamer

If there is any hope, keep in mind that quite a few GOTY winners came out early in the year.

He didn't even mention Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. I'm canceling my subscription.

On a more serious note, I'm genuinely excited for MH4U.

Well, did you find a date?

Edited by Jimbo

I guess they still have time with Battlefield Hardline to see which way the wind is blowing come March, but I don't think Jeff is exaggerating here. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Hardline get canned, given a last minute lengthy delay for 'reasons', or overhauled/rebranded in some way.

Releasing it in the current climate with the current theme and title would be incredibly insensitive. It would also seem very counter to the 'yay, minorities!' fad in gaming culture at the moment. It seems like a perfect storm waiting to happen.

Posted by NeoZeon

I'm actually looking forward to Dying Light. Whether or not my faith in it will be rewarded is an entirely different issue though.

Also - MKX is in April? That seems like so very far away to me now...

January is looking to be the month of the Remaster. Resident Evil, Grim Fandango, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, and not to mention GTAV's PC release.

I really hope 2015 is better, 2014 was not bad but it was certainly underwhelming.

Hmm... nope. No, the west can't pull this off. The culture is all wrong. Japan can comfortably use the fuzzy area between anime for adults and h-dating sim games to get some kind of dating site/video game market going. No such thing in the west. Won't work.

I don't see what the problem with Hardline is, isn't it just cops vs badguys?

Also it's "just" a video game.

I'm thinking that guy is the CEO.

@nonesun: the militarization of police isn't quite the best thing to depict given the current climate in the US.

Dollars to doughnuts all the badguys are white.

@mystyr_e:

Despite relatively amazing visuals at tremendous aspect ratio, framerate, and resolution sacrifices and being a new intellectual property the game doesn't seem to offer much more than compentant third-person shooter gameplay and crap load of quick time events. Unless that game just has some crazy amazing story I just don't see the apeal of it. Please correct me if I'm wrong but so far the game appears to be fluff, nothing more.

Man, haven't listened to this in forever. He's really good at this.

So I'm going to assume you don't live in America. The problem is that here in america right now there are pretty strenuous tensions between civilians and police officers in several cities over the wrongful deaths of several black men who were killed by police officers. The evidence in both of these cases (in one case there is fucking VIDEO of it happening) seemed to not be enough to convict the officers of wrongdoing. This has caused various protests to break out around the country. Its also caused a lot of idiots to make stupid stupid moves and ambush and kill police officers in some sort of twisted "revenge" scheme.

So in short when Hardline's catch is "Be the bad cop" and we're actively dealing with police officers wrongly killing people right now in the real life news... its not exactly the best move from a PR standpoint for EA.
