The EVE stuff was crazy. I really enjoyed all of it. Also, WHOA I know he was just quoting someone but I think he just out did Vinny for the "Whoa what did you just say?!" moment of the bombcast. Preeeety sure that is the first time that word has been dropped on a bombcast.

More Yoshi's Island hate, I don't understand how people can be so wrong about something. It's astounding. God bless Giant Bomb.

Listening to Patrick talk about the value people get from dedicating themselves to EVE cemented this theme I've been sensing lately. While it's actually sorta obvious it has become clear to me that proffesional game reviewers really never truely gets to experience the great games, the games that require dedication but in return reward you with an experience genuinly unqiue to videogames.

It's been whirling through my head for a while, this whole rise of the story-driven campaign games etc. While there's certainly a crowd out there that enjoy it, it is content that perfectly suits the game reviewer way of experiencing games. It makes me wonder if the gaming media has had a strong influence on this change of direction within the industry.

I'm probably part of a minority that see it this way, but it has shone a new light on a lot of what is going on in gaming and given me a new perspective. But then again in this same exact podcast Brad talks about how he would be fine on a deserted island with dota 2 forever, so.... To be honest I just wish Patrick and some of the other guys (like Jeff talking about Divekick) could get into games like that for their own sake, because it's really fucking awesome =D

@demoskinos: Unless you count the Lantern Run as well. When Ryan said the word while it was live, but then cut from the GB archive.

EVE talk is so rad, can't wait for Drew to work his magic with the footage they took.

@brad Thanks for mentioning my comment on Blood Dragon.

Another good example of this in video games is Red Alert 3 which, despite some great casting like Tim Curry, JK Simmons and George Takei, missed the ball with a lot of its humour by being too self-aware.

Red Alert 1 and 2 did not have this problem even though Red Alert 2 got really silly as well. It makes you respect Udo Kier even more for his amazing, completely straight-faced B-movie performance.

(And Greg Kasavin for helping to make that performance happen.)

P.S. ISK = íslensk króna = Icelandic Crown just like USD = United States Dollar

I don't mind the ongoing Yoshi's Island talk, since I'm one of the rare few who are in the middle on this, but Brad's increasing dislike of it purely because of the people that like it, is inexcusably dickish.

Otherwise, I really look forward to the EVE videos, and hope that they're not insanely chopped apart and edited down to nearly nothing like the South Korea trip was.

Who wants to play mario? I'm playing Cool Boarders!

Love the Iceland talk. I knew they had regular civilization, but they're definitely a country you never normally hear anything about. It's pretty cool that they've made a videogame that has become the pride of the country in some fashion from the sound of things.

As for Eve itself, I think I'm the right kind of crazy to appreciate what that game is, but the time investment is something I just don't have the energy to throw at after already putting way too many years into other MMO's. Someday I'll at least give it a try for a little while though.

And the hatred of Yoshi's Island is still crazy. Well, I can understand hating the whole baby Mario aspect of it, but disliking the visuals and music? Blasphemy!

@ryan There maybe other places that do this as well, But the way the dollar dance works for Michigan weddings is. You go buy a bunch of fifths of hard booze, Charge 1 dollar for dance and a shot of said booze. It's fun for everyone!

Pfft, so when I make 100,000,000,000,00 in 5 minutes I have no reason to be happy?!
Not even sure what that would be in Denmark, or in US Dollars.

Played a while of EvE, got bored as shit. It's the typical go there and do that of other MMORPGs, but it requires way more interaction with the human players.

I dunno, it seems like all the bigger multiplayer games do absolutely nothing for me. After a week or two, I always feel like I'm wasting time, evn though playing other games is also kind of a time waste.

Gotta love Patrick's quiet rage when Jeff and Brad start beating up Yoshi's Island again. FIGHT BACK SCOOPS.

re: Rachet and Clank puns, I'd always taken "a crack in time" as a play on "a cracking time" which is an English (albeit a Wallace and Gromit style English) colloquialism for having had a good time.

Expected a lot better of a trip report from Patrick. Pretty disappointed by his stories and a focus on the EVE stuff. Yeah I know that's why he went, but it's not really why we cared to hear about his Iceland trip.

Man this Bombcast was waaay to self indulgent. I like hearing their musings on their own life happenings and stuff but for that to take up pretty much the entire podcast it felt like was a bit much. Yeah I know I'll get flamed to all hell because criticizing these guys on here is considered treason against the site. Its just it is meant to be a Video Game Podcast so to take almost 2hrs+ to get beyond the Life stuff and EVE was crazy.

Not all of us have time to spare like that.

What is up with Jeff talking shit on Sonic 3? I only owned Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles for my Genesis and they were all great.

I love it when they talk about Papers Ple... I mean getting into E3, was interesting as I'v never been.

Lol all this Yoshi's Island hate XD Personally from playing Sonic The Hedgehog 1 before Super Mario World I always thought Super Mario World looked terrible... I mean, its gameplay and level design was fantastic but the art and animations where terrible... Mario's walk cycle was 3 frames long (come on 3 frames) and it just looked bad... Also 100% agree with Sonic looking ass in Sonic 3 XD

just wanted to say thanks to @patrickklepek for iceland chat! as someone who's wanted to travel to iceland for the better part of a decade, it was fun to vicariously live the fanfest experience. if anyone else is curious about iceland, and want to listen to some fantastic music, i can't recommend the sigur ros documentary 'heima' enough- it's a fantastic compilation of unorthodox live performances set to beautiful icelandic landscape cinematography. here's a small preview:

also special shoutout to scoops and @drewbert- there's no way we'd have this sort of utterly fascinating content without you both, so thanks for the effort! looking forward to the vids.

Don't know which country you're from, but at least in Denmark it isn't a norm anymore. A shame really, I love tipping a good bartender.

@jeff @ryan I've got fibromyalgia and old sports injuries, for four years I've been playing games with the aid of home-made foot controls based on keyboard sustain-pedals and hacked up poorly soldered keyboard matrixes to allow for variable key input.

The foot is not precise enough for d-pad or analogue/cursor movement without taking up an entire floor or turning into a $10k+ design project, but raw on/off pedals definitely help make things like DOTA2 playable for people like me when I'm under the weather or worn out.

Push-to-Talk and jump/jetpack have been the most useful uses of the pedals, simply using my right foot for jetpack/ski/jump made my Tribes Ascend experience a lot deeper and frankly better. Now imagine doing it with Occulus Rift on top.

(I could definitely brainstorm up a pedal solution for somebody missing a hand, there are midi pedals for organists that could have their signals transformed to keyboard inputs with a little work)

I don't know what everyone is talking about, it did not take 2 hours to get to the video games.

I was expecting that, but it did not happen. Now I'm confused.

This is Jeff Gerstmann we're talking about. I don't know how people are surprised anymore when he comes out and says he didn't like something or thought it was disappointing. Yoshi's Island seems to be the hot topic, but this isn't something new. He's got a long list of games most people seem to like that he doesn't care for. Off the top of my head I can think of Smash Brothers, Resident Evil 4, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Half Life 2, Red Dead Redemption, Goldeneye 007, Metal Gear Solid, Mario Kart 64, Anarchy Reigns, Perfect Dark, and he's got a special place in hell reserved for Nights Into Dreams.

I feel like it would be easier for all involved if we just came to an understanding that Jeff's a wild card like that. I never can tell if he's going to like something or hate it, and that's something I find interesting about him.
