What is up with Jeff talking shit on Sonic 3? I only owned Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles for my Genesis and they were all great.

This is Jeff Gerstmann we're talking about. I don't know how people are surprised anymore when he comes out and says he didn't like something or thought it was disappointing. Yoshi's Island seems to be the hot topic, but this isn't something new. He's got a long list of games most people seem to like that he doesn't care for. Off the top of my head I can think of Smash Brothers, Resident Evil 4, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Half Life 2, Red Dead Redemption, Goldeneye 007, Metal Gear Solid, Mario Kart 64, Anarchy Reigns, Perfect Dark, and he's got a special place in hell reserved for Nights Into Dreams.

I feel like it would be easier for all involved if we just came to an understanding that Jeff's a wild card like that. I never can tell if he's going to like something or hate it, and that's something I find interesting about him.

I play EVE Online, been playing casually since 2003, I only put like 100 hours a year into it though, I'm not super dedicated. I've found the game fun but I cannot stand playing it all the time like the dedicated fans. For me it really needs to make the transition between high sec and low sec to be smoother because right now it's all in or nothing with no learning tools.

Man this Bombcast was waaay to self indulgent. I like hearing their musings on their own life happenings and stuff but for that to take up pretty much the entire podcast it felt like was a bit much. Yeah I know I'll get flamed to all hell because criticizing these guys on here is considered treason against the site. Its just it is meant to be a Video Game Podcast so to take almost 2hrs+ to get beyond the Life stuff and EVE was crazy.

Not all of us have time to spare like that.

Not to discount your criticism, but the "I can't believe they're wasting my time not talking about VIDEO GAMES" notion is kinda amusing.

Yeah. I'm not sure where he heard that you don't. Unless someone was just trying to make him look like an asshole.

if Dave were still with the site we'd probably be getting a quick look of East vs West when it comes out. hmm. maybe Rorie will be able to get into it, but idunno. :/

You have no idea how high pitched I belayed upon seeing Bjork's photo as the podcast image. I love Bjork so much.

SO MUCH.

I think if you're listening to the podcast JUST for the videogame stuff, then you'd be better served spending that precious time reading their reviews instead. For me, the podcast isn't just about videogames. And I quite enjoy that.

Sigur Ros > Bjork

Posted by TehPickle

The first time I saw anything Bjork related, it was a trailer for Drawing Restraint 9 or whatever that movie was.

I have avoided anything to do with Bjork ever since.

Not wishing to sound pernickity (though it's going to happen anyway), but Drawing Restraint is very much more a pjoject by Bjorks partner, Matthew Barney, rather than Bjorks. Bjork just provided the soundscapes.

But really though, to have missed everything that came before that (albums like Debut, Post, Homogenic or Vespertine), you're missing one of the truly visionary artists of the last 30 years.

When she's weird, she's really weird, but when she wants to just crank out a pretty melody, there are few that are in her league.

Sigur Ros > Bjork

I like them both... but yes, I agree.

I'm beginning to think the only problem with Jeff hating on Yoshi's island is that you don't hear a chorus of people rabble-ing and dropping their monocles every time he criticizes it.

When almost everyone just shrugs and agrees with him, "Jeff being a rebel with wild opinions" becomes "Jeff using information control to rewrite history," and nobody likes that.

Lies and slander. I like Sigur Ros, but...not even close. It's barely the same genre.

kinda think siggy fell off a bit after (sausages). bjork's last wasn't phenomenal but it was still pretty compelling.

Mind blown in a few spots on the talks about Iceland, just a small country I don't hear much about so really interested to see/hear more of the GB trip there. Actually explains quite a lot now after hearing some of it.

It is utterly strange to hear Ryan say "goonswarm." I've played EVE off and on for years, but I never expected to hear real talk about what goes on in the game on the Bombcast. Thanks guys!

Would love to know what kind of establishment Patrick visited in Germany where he was looked at crossly for tipping - I'm guessing it was a misunderstanding. People here like to take your money just as much as they do anywhere else (except in Iceland, apparently?).

Dont really care for EVE that much, but i am interested in Iceland.

Lover's of Yoshi's Island take heart: the Bombcast crew eventually get around to shitting on something all of us have fond memories for. They can only ruin your personal experience if you let them :)

Three hours of Patrick talking you say. Whelp

I've never been to a wedding here, but the few I've been to in México, people just pin money to the bride or groom and then proceed to dance with them. I just assumed that was standard for weddings but I guess it's cultural.

@Patrick, I live in germany. We totally DO give tipps!

We don't HAVE to, because waiters ARE being paid somewhat properly, but it's rude not to give tips of at least 2€ or so... I mean the waiters took the job counting on being tipped. If I'm paying for a group, I calculate about 7-10% on the price on the bill and round it somewhere nice. Maybe you were in some special exhibition/conference restaurant where waiters were being told not to take tips, because of... I don't even wanna know (which btw would mean, that by trying to tip that waitress, she must have thought you wanted to I-don't-even-wanna-know her).

I laughed at Mario being the De Niro of videogames.

Every wedding I've been to, they have had a dollars dance where you give the bride or groom cash and then dance with them for a short time. Kind of surprised that Ryan thought giving cards with cash in them at the reception was such a weird/unusual thing.

i can confirm this. also: i was in iceland for 2 weeks in april and it's so weird that you can't give, even if your life depends on it, tips to icelandic waiters and waitresses. they will cut you before they'll take a tip.

Posted by mortal_sb

just wanted to say thanks to @patrickklepek for iceland chat! as someone who's wanted to travel to iceland for the better part of a decade, it was fun to vicariously live the fanfest experience. if anyone else is curious about iceland, and want to listen to some fantastic music, i can't recommend the sigur ros documentary 'heima' enough- it's a fantastic compilation of unorthodox live performances set to beautiful icelandic landscape cinematography. here's a small preview:

also special shoutout to scoops and @drewbert- there's no way we'd have this sort of utterly fascinating content without you both, so thanks for the effort! looking forward to the vids.

got this on dvd, it's god damn amazing. more good icelandic music: múm, valgeir sigurðsson, ólafur arnalds, sin fang etc.

Expected a lot better of a trip report from Patrick. Pretty disappointed by his stories and a focus on the EVE stuff. Yeah I know that's why he went, but it's not really why we cared to hear about his Iceland trip.

He said that they'd go into more detail with Drew later. So hold your horses.

Yeah, he said they had more than half a day of video. This isn't the last we've heard of the trip, I'm sure. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a full debriefing like they did for Drew and his trip to North Korea.

You guys forget that 500k subs probably puts them as the second most subbed MMO in the western world. We don't even know that WoW's true figures are, could be 10 million chinese and 200k westerners at this point. What I do know is though, 500k is a massive amount for a western MMO and it proves that listening to your player base works, unlike what SOE do.
