Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best of the Genesis Sonic games.

I play EVE Online, been playing casually since 2003, I only put like 100 hours a year into it though, I'm not super dedicated. I've found the game fun but I cannot stand playing it all the time like the dedicated fans. For me it really needs to make the transition between high sec and low sec to be smoother because right now it's all in or nothing with no learning tools.

BWAAAHHHGHGGHHHH YOU JUST WANT THE GAME TO BE LIKE WOW YOU CASUAL LOSER, GRRRRRR!!!!

Normally I love when they go on tangents and talk about random shit, but all the fucking wedding stuff was grating as hell.

Goddamn, I've said it before and I'll say it again: these guys are so incredibly unhealthy, and they speak as if it's out of their control or something.

Only possible solution to sedentary lifestyle-induced ailments: take drugs.

Great. Just great.

Lover's of Yoshi's Island take heart: the Bombcast crew eventually get around to shitting on something all of us have fond memories for. They can only ruin your personal experience if you let them :)

Yeah their horrible opinions don't actually change anything. Yoshi's Island is still one of the greatest games ever made, and one of the top 5 best looking games on the SNES.

It's just a bummer.

the attacking the other players when they are asleep in eve is something we do in a game called travian, a lot of attacks landing at 5am in the morning :):):)

Patrick's Iceland tales are awesome

Posted by MocBucket62

The fact that Brad agreed with Jeff about the quality of Yoshi's Island because of his disdain for the overall reactions to Jeff's hatred for the game on one of the previous Bombcasts gives me the impression that he was acting like Jeff's puppet. Aside from that, this was a good podcast, liked their discussion of how awkward the Heavenly Sword straight to DVD movie is.

@tehpickle: I mean, I figured I was probably being a bit unreasonable, but hearing that makes me feel a little better about it, I guess.

Those things about EVE, Tricky? That's what other MMO's could be if they weren't shanghaied by asocial avaricious theme park movements.

Finally got a chance to listen to this. BTW, for RSI problems, I've found trackball mice are great. Never as accurate as a normal mouse, but if you use the trackball for everything except gaming, the RSI will likely start to get better. The Logitech M570 is great for people used to regular mice making the switch to a trackball mouse.

Okay, after this, Eve sounds to me like hell.

As for Yoshi's Island, I remember playing that game back when it was new. It seemed real awesome at the time. It was the Kirby's Epic Yarn of the SNES. Jeff can hate on it all he likes, but it was universally acclaimed, his opinion is in the minority. The game seems so harmless and benign to me I don't know how it could inspire such revulsion in a grown man.

Fun fact, Super Mario 64 came out literally less than a year after Yoshi's Island. Wrap your noodles round that fact.

Posted by LiquidPrince

I don't understand what the hell Brad and Patrick were talking about. The game hints at the supernatural elements since like the first hours of the game and half way through they start becoming more and more obvious. The reveal isn't that surprising, but like Vinny says, they don't try any "is it or isn't it" bullshit. It's just like, yo... ONI... GO.

Oh dear god, open your god damned ears. He said he didn't think the game was as good as people said, but that people throwing a hissy fit over it made him even more inclined to agree/"side" with Jeff. He didn't just base his entire stance on the subject on how people were reacting over a decades old videogame.

I have no fond childhood memories of a lot of games (no Nintendo games at least) and I think Yoshi's Island is tons of fun and is utterly gorgeous. Like it is the first game that looks like a painting. And as for the sound, I have heard "shitty digitized" sound in tons of arcade games and fighting games so yeah nothing in Yoshi's Island even began to stand out on me on the audio, even for the crying Mario is like...nothing compared to tons of other things in plenty of other games. Too bad for people who don't like it, it's super fun and beautiful. I guess there are also people who don't like classical music either.

words cannot express how hilarious their characterization of the person who welped the titan given the context of who the guy is xD. Dabigredboat!

You now need to draw an awesome picture of Jeff looking evil and going all muwahahahahaha and Brad is his finger puppet.

Yeah Sonic 1 is fun but kind of underdeveloped and Sonic 2's backhalf gets kind of bad in my opinion. Sonic 3 is definitely the best / most consistent, even if the change in art style is a bit lame.

I have to say Björk was pretty hot in the 90s...now not so much. But hey she has a pretty impressive catalog of music. Never been a favorite of mine but when you're in the mood she is one of the best artists out there. In my top 5 female vocalists for sure.

She's great, but she isn't even my favorite Icelandic female vocalist. Emiliana Torrini's "Me and Armini" is one of my all-time favorite albums. Also the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men are pretty hot right now on alternative rock radio (here in LA anyway).

… but that people throwing a hissy fit over it made him even more inclined to agree/"side" with Jeff.

More than three people defend a game that was hailed as the pinnacle of 2D platforming by every reviewer and most gamers back then, so therefore it clearly must have been shite and we are all idiots. Such a delightful dichotomy -- the staff generally harshly dismisses everything the community ever has to say on video games ("What do these fuckers know, eh Jeff?" *wink* *nudge*), but gladly takes their money and mailbags anyway.

Edited by Dan_CiTi

@slab64: I cannot say it is something I have been active in. I was speaking in a grand scale of albums like Homogenic being one of the best/most important albums especially in that artsy electronic pop stuff. Though foreign music is always something interesting to me for a future project I'm working on especially.

Edited by civid

Fuck all this Yoshi's Island talk, I wanna hear what the crew thinks about Yoshi's Story, because that game KNOWS it's crappy and it fucking embraces it like no game I have ever seen. Also IT'S ON DRUGS so Jeff should love it

So you're saying we pay them to agree with us? If you can't take Jeff's light hearted 'You people are crazy' stuff, then stop listening to him. ABOUT A DECADES OLD GAME SO WHO CARES.

Most of the interesting things happening in EVE that Patrick talked about were related to Goonswarm weren't they? The SomethingAwful corp that most other corps hate in the game. I was hoping for more details I guess but every story Patrick told was "I don't recall the corporation, context or details but this is sorta what happened"

Maybe the videos will fill that in.

I'd go to Iceland if CCP payed for the trip, but promoting a POS MMOs that one doesn't even play or understand is simply immoral, this day and age. After 12 Years of EVE promises there is still only one word to aptly characterise that game and it would be Disappointment.

Among MMOs EVE has one of the most vicious and evil hooks, as it rewards time spent subscribed, and people play not because of how pathetic of a space sim this is or because they like the combat a.k.a. watching loading bars, but because they believe that one day their investment of time and money will pay off. However this kind of long con, relies on keeping people wishing and on keeping promising more and more, while delivering a slow drip of features. Similar to how a Ponzi scheme still pays interest as long as it attracts more people.

There are no dedicated players, instead like all stories of addiction its all about quitting in frustration and picking the habit up again. EVE is a lot like prison, it's filled with Russian sociopaths, trying to do each other dirty, and like a criminal career, they go in and out of prison. My favourite EVE story though, is about that guy who posted "Carebear sorrows" video, then linked pictures of how he wrote EVE memes with a marker on a Columbian prostitute's naked crotch as proof of how much a bad-ass he is ... in RL.

I've had the same problem as Brad in regards to back pains.

Completely disagree with Brad on Tomb Raider. They made it very overt if you got the collectables. If you didn't, it was more out of nowhere but play tomb raider 1. Weird skinless alien things. This was handled way better.

The Giant Bombcast is a podcast about Giant Bomb. If it were about video games, it would be called Giant Bomb talks about video games for 10 minutes because shit ain't coming out.

Hey Patrick, you can actually pay separately in Japan just about anywhere with no problem. You just have to know how to say it in Japanese and you pretty much have to pay for everything in cash. If you guys go again, remember to say "betsu betsu day." when you pay next time and say what you got.

The Pirate parties get a lot of support in Europe too (obviously nothing compared to major parties, but they get a few seats). Not a two party system like America.

I play Dota 2 and I have one arm :)... I play a lot of games just fine.

I use my right hand on the mouse and the stump on my other arm to use the keyboard.

Can play most games completely competently. Good times.

Yoshi's Island is pretty terrible. I guess you can't fight the kiddie nostalgia that some people can't get beyond. The more enlightened of us know it's incredibly mediocre and not at all worthy of the strange praise it gets. If it were called Baby Dinosaur Island, none of you would give it a second thought beyond possibly "that game had interesting graphics."
