@mormonwarrior: You guys are jumping to conclusions. Samantha is just talking about Gaymer X and how great the community there is.

@rangers517: ugh, describing things in a neutral manner is so intolerable~ *ffffffrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt*

BRAAAAAAAAADCAST! I AM IN!

And is Samantha the one who wrote in about the Unity stuff? Should be a good listen if so.

Posted by ultrapeanut

Also? I only really knew of Dan Ryckert from the nigh-slanderous descriptions of his 'friend' Phil Kollar, but Dan is a WEIRD dude in many ways I didn't expect. But he throws wrestling references around like candy, so I'm pretty fond of him.

I miss the bombcast

Yeah, I hoped that was the case. Gonna listen to it. If that's all it is, then that's great. Glad there's good communities for gamers of all kinds.

This comment section is badly in need of some puppies. Anyone got any cute puppy pics?

In this episode Brad undoes all the goodwill he built with the first Bradcast.

Obviously, judging by some of these early comments, this whole thing is going to turn into a sad poop storm, so I wanted to get a quick comment in before the poop started to rain from the sky in earnest.

To those who feel uncomfortable listening to this, it is probably because you can't relate to it or at the worst, feel not included. That is the point of those who criticism elements of the gaming industry. They feel like that that all the time when listening to things.

Samantha seems down to earth, super nice, and not preachy. My problem with the critics like Anita, Samantha Allen, and others is they often seem to say "because I feel not included, this entire group of people are evil careless jerks". She (and Danielle on Bombin' in the AM) talk about the gender stuff, but in a way that isn't preachy. They care about this stuff and Giant Bomb should be an open plus, so it is awesome they get to talk about. Yes, I will admit the "even the straight white guy had fun" part was a little weird, but they seem to stop talking about this stuff early on, so maybe just try something a little different than normal? If you freak out just because Samantha Kalman is on, it is kind of proving the bad things they say about our community.

Wow, this an embarrassing comment section. Still a lot of work to do here, it seems.

Yep. Especially when Samantha and Sentris are pretty awesome.

Suppose it's time to make some popcorn and watch the comment section implode!

Brad did a BradCast once, guys, and it was really fucking cool. And now he elected to invite a woman on, and there's all this "blah blah waiting for next week's show D:" when before it was all like "OMG Giant Bomb DIDN'T hire a woman wtf"

For as awesome as this community typically is, it baffles the fuck out of me sometimes too. But alas, I'll carry on and enjoy my show

Brad is a good interviewer.

Also, why is everyone so sensitive? The bombcast can be more than just silliness. And as gamers get older we should take interest in the wider gamer culture, not just the games themselves. It's not feminist or political bullshit. It's real life, because real life women and trans people of all races and orientations like games too. They should feel included.

A lot of work to do? A lot of work erasing opinions?

I'll listen to this later and see if any of the criticism is actually warranted or if it's coming from people who haven't actually listened to any of it, but I don't really see what needs 'work'. If people have an opinion, should they just suppress it and leave? Of course, if it goes past simply expressing the opinion, something's to be done but you can't really just say that there's work to be done if you see a lot of people disagreeing with you

Interested to hear about Gaymer X, from what I read it sounds like a great convention that I should add to my list of Video Game related conventions/events I want to attend.

@mormonwarrior: I think that Jeff's letter from the editor a few days ago made it pretty clear where GB stands in terms of whether or not they think it's ok to marginalize anyone for any reason.

The thing about postmodern ethics, though, is that there are no "norms" anymore. Anything goes.

Nietzsche put it very succinctly:

Whoever has overthrown an existing law of custom has always first been accounted a bad man: but when, as did happen, the law could not afterwards be reinstated and this fact was accepted, the predicate gradually changed; - history treats almost exclusively of these bad men who subsequently became good men!

Whether you agree with his line of reasoning or not is probably a good indicator of whether you'll enjoy this particular 'cast.

@jiggajoe14: Why did I post a thingy that will be ignored when I could have posted this instead:

@benpicko: No, a lot of work on NOT being a vile community. No one is telling anyone else to not "hate" Samantha. But just vile hatred towards her is not constructive in the slightest, and just echos what Jeff had to post about after Dan was hired. Giant Bomb deserves better than hatred at 4 words being mentioned in a podcast.

@benpicko: If their opinions are "no one on Giant Bomb should ever talk about gender/race/social issues", then yes, that's exactly what I mean.

This is a really great comment and I echo all of it.

Gonna have to grow up at some point, duders.

That's not what most are saying though. They're saying that they don't agree with the issues that are being brought up lately, not that issues shouldn't be discussed at all, and as far as I can tell they're still allowed to have that opinion currently, but I agree that people are often vile about it and that should be sorted out.

Posted by BeyondStrange

I agree the negative comments about this episodes are dumb, but there hasn't been anything really bad yet besides "I am going to not listen to this because of vague reasons or jerk reasons." EVERY video and podcast on GB has a ton of those, its just the jerk reasons this time are over super sensitive reasons that got the site into hot water recently.

It could be a lot worse... and holy crap, I hope it doesn't get a lot worse...

BRADCAST.

YES. YES. YES.

Sometimes I feel like the only female oriented person who doesn't care for Anita and the way she goes about things. But hey, opinions.

GaymerX sounds fun, but the last Scoops show made it seem like there won't be another one.

Yeah I edited the comment immediately afterwards to reflect that I had the same opinion as you

@devitiffany: Well, they announced there wasn't going to be one, but they are hoping that changes. Basically, the reasoning it would not go on seems to be that "cons are really hard to put together."

Apparently, I've just completely missed something because I'm pretty deep into this episode and I completely fail to see what's making people so angry...

Well...there is one thing: HARVEST MOON 64 WAS AMAZING.

Going into this with a completely open mind.

EDIT: I miss the Giant Bombcast.
