Don't worry about the earthquakes, it's the volcano that does you in.

Even if the emailer retracted his statements Dan should really take those criticisms into consideration. Of course this is coming from someone who thinks Dan Ryckert is an uncultured buffoon but my point is still valid.

Edited by Tits_Matador

They should force Dan and Jeff to be part of Giantbomb unplugged if they ever do another one.

"I'm eating a fork with my fork." What is happening to this site??

Posted by Xshinobi

I do find it funny how they waxed about GI Joe but they all took a shit on Avatar and Korra (without even watching it) just a few weeks ago.

Dan is basically Jeff Jr. Making decisions and reacting to things as no normal human would.

Yo, you can totally use the d-pad in OlliOlli, but yeah the timing is still rough as hell. If it was slightly more consistent/easier, I would adore the hell out of that game, one of the best skating games.

Posted by Nardak

For a guy who likes wrestling Dan sure has good grounds to determine if something is trash or not.

Maybe Dan should be a more open minded unless he was just joking.

I'm from Lawrence, Kansas! I like cheese dogs! And I love Dan Reichert!

I mean he is, but I think he presents himself that way. Dan seems pretty self-effacing most of the time. If Dan presented his lunacy with the bravdo and self-assuredness of--say--Jeff, I think he'd be wholly unpalatable. As he is now, I don't take anything he says too seriously because he's a lovable fucking goofball. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

The G.I. Joe discussion was fascinating.

If only there was some other source of water one of the wealthiest, most technologically advanced places on the planet could tap into to address their drought woes...

I'm being a bit facetious of course. As desalination isn't exactly a simple endeavor at this point. But it isn't impossible.

Like clockwork I pause the podcast the moment Dan makes his views known about Lord of the Rings and lo the comments in response.

I think the only disappointing thing is the declaration of being against "fantasy crap" which is kind of uncool because while a lot of it is tired and bloated, some amazing things get done in that aesthetic. Well...in his own words he makes an exception for Game of Thrones but I feel like as broad as "sci-fi" or "fantasy" are it's kind of moot to make a statement like that.

I'd also like to note for the record that now we have an editor who hates Star Wars and another who hates Lord of the Rings. Buckle in folks, it's gonna be a one hell of a ride.

Hehe. Jeff has also made his views on fantasy known for years and years. I remember him saying that he didn't like Star Wars growing up because it was basically "fantasy with lightsabers" (which I agree with, it's difficult to really call it sci fi in its truest sense).

@robo: Desalination and distribution requires a lotta dough - saving water is a whole lot cheaper.

Besides, when the drought is over, you'll have spent millions on huge desalination plants and infrastructure that are now superfluous.

As I understand it you basically need unlimited cheap energy for this to be feasible and it isn't like there is a big floating energy ball in the sky we could use for that.

... Some day.

I really wish they had footage of the West Coast Crew playing Velvet Sundown as well. And I really, really hope they return to it when and if they add new scenarios.

Also, no one cares that you don't like Dan not liking Lord of the Rings, so that that shit to your blog or something.

I heartily recommend G.I. Joe Renegades, if only for the fact that they rebooted the show as The A Team. I mean, check the intro:

Only thing missing was a Cylon cameo. Also there are ninjas, and Cobra Commander is the CEO of Wal-mart

And the backlash hate a thon against dan begins!

The honeymoon was fun while it lasted :(

Man, the Bart vs the Space Mutants discussion brought back some memories. My dad bought that along with a Game Gear for my brother and I to screw around with on a vacation from Maine to Florida. The game was basically unplayable and incomprehensible goal wise.

I'm actually really liking Dan on the Bombcast and the site in general. He's has great chemistry with Jeff and he's full of enthusiasm.

Now if we could only get Danny to fully defect from Gamespot to GB then we would be set.

Posted by Yesiamaduck

Love Dan but he has shit tastes.

Game of Thrones over Lord of the Rings?

MONKEYBONE?

o.O

(I actually love him for being the only person that got me angry over tastes on the internet, you're doing great work Dan!)

hes right, got > lotr

Posted by EmuPrime

Oh my god, someone else knows what Monkeybone is! Love that movie.

Posted by stryker1121

Oh boy - knowing Dan from his GI days I had a feeling he'd wind up the GB smart set with his, ah, 'enthusiasm,' unique pop culture opinions and overall off-kilterness. At least he tried to read Fellowship..was he supposed to read an entire trilogy of something he didn't like, just to form a "fair" opinion?

Dan can be stubborn and close-minded, and tends to broad-brush entire genres w/ just a few words, which I do find annoying. And Jeff loses two Internet points for his obvious trolling of fantasy fans.

Posted by lon240

Okay, just what kind of epiphany did Michael from Sweden have about Dan in those 3 days? I was in total agreement with him with his first email (Dan is the type of person that's ruining this world, etc.) but what made him change his mind with that second email? I mean, come on... throwing egg shells in the frying pan thinking they were egg whites? Having the culinary tastes of a spoiled 7 year old + putting down foods he hasn't even tried? Thinking Mario Fucking Sunshine/T3 > Mario 64/T1? Cooking hot dogs in a shoebox? Shaving without even water? Come on dude, all of that shit just isn't funny, and I can't believe so many listeners are this enamored with him.

Posted by seannao

At first I was disgusted, but then the conversation turned from shoeboxes to corn fork recipes. My body hurts from laughter and a smile is stuck on my face.

God I miss Vinny (and even Patrick).

Dan seems like a nice guy, but my honest feeling is that this podcast has lost some serious IQ points since he joined.

Yes Jeff shares some of this tendencies, but he has a self awareness that makes it acceptable and even funny. For instance understands the ridiculousness of wresting and would only bring it up on occasion, usually in a self-deprecating way.

Dan on the other hand shows complete confidence in his ignorance on an ever expanding number of topics. Who doesn't have time to wash a god damn knife, but spends an entire weekend watching GI Joe and wrestling??? Brad's shock is palpable and Drew mostly keeps quiet while Dan Palin just drones on and on about nonsense.

I REALLY hate to be this critical and character assassinate in a public place, but if this was my podcast I would want the feedback. Honestly when we got the part about throwing out a fucking plastic knife every time he needs some peanut butter I started to wonder why I am wasting time listening to this podcast.

The reason I love Giantbomb and it's been my favorite podcast for 5 years is that it's always been smart guys doing dumb stuff. I suspect others feel the same way. Losing Vinny and Patrick left big holes and Dan not only hasn't filled them, but has gone completely in the other direction. I feel like a serious threshold has been crossed in the last few weeks. I'm not sure how much more I am interested in hearing.

Once again, sorry to sound like an asshole.

Edited by sravankb

"How come these guys have such strong opinions about things that they haven't even seen / tried yet? "

They're just messing around. They're not serious, at all.

It makes no sense for someone to have those viewpoints on something without even knowing a single thing about it. Especially in their case, considering they're professional reviewers.

Posted by Ithmoliar

@papamozano: Even though I don't agree with your viewpoint. I don't think you're being an asshole at all, you have a right to comment on the podcast. I hope that you don't get attacked for expressing your opinion and if there is debate it stays civil.

Me I still find the podcast pretty funny. I do REALLY miss Vinny though. The podcast certainly is different but I think the better the guys get to know each other the better their rapport will be. So I would say stick it out, remember how long it took everyone to accept Patrick!

Edited by KaneRobot

I was all about MOTU (better gimmicks on the toys) and Transformers (they were expensive so I equated that with being awesome) at the time, but the discussion here makes me want to go back and give the GI Joe show a shot.

-------

Also, there are few things funnier than angry fantasy series fans, so thank you, Giant Bombcast.

Posted by Homelessbird

@papamozano: Well, I don't know if you're exactly being an asshole, but you might as well just come out and say you think Dan's an idiot. It doesn't really do you any favors to couch it in softer terminology.

I would give him a little time. Dan is very confident in himself, and so he's not afraid to tell the entire world about the stupid things he does. But I think you'll find (if you give him that time) that he's actually not an idiot. He's a guy who pays absolutely no attention to the demands of adulthood until he absolutely has to, and maybe you find that distasteful, but I think that using that as a gauge for the general level of his intelligence is misguided.

He knows quite a bit about video games, is pretty good at video games, and most importantly, fucking loves video games with an enthusiasm that has been a little lacking around here recently, which is why I think a lot of people are excited that he's around.

Obviously, though, it's mostly for personality that you're going to stick around at this site, and I can't tell you what you enjoy. I'm just saying that if you stick around, you may find that Dan grows on you.

So apparently the level cap in destiny ISN'T 20. They just released a video for a character at level 29.

Posted by Jazzman4824

With Destiny, Saves transfer within console manufacturers. My friends and I explored the entirety of what was available from the moon, and it looked cool. We know there will also be Venus and Mars when the game launches, they've talked about Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter's Moons so I'm sure that will all come out later that there will be more content. I am definitely sold on the game and all that it offers, but I can definitely understand why people would say that they don't see longevity with the game. Look up raids and read into that stuff. Check out post main game stuff, it extends farther than we thought. I'm also sure that we will see additional content that unlocks more areas on earth, mars, moon, and venus at least.

Yeah, although its some weird system.. the level is still 20, but it seems like you can get extra experience that adds to the same base level, similar to Diablo paragon levels.

You said a lot of what I wanted to say, much better.

I feel there is a decent number of people that think so too.

Ive been a bit of an asshole criticising too, maybe, but yeah .. and I don't mean to hate on Dan, but I definitely agree.

Posted by AlphaZro

All this hate for Dan, sounds very similar to all the hate Patrick got when he joined and all the hate that Alex gets when he would appear on the bombcast. I just think some people just hate different, and that's your thing but c'mon enjoy the bombcast because in the end you're still listening.

Anyways love the bombast, the GI Joe talk was awesome!

Edited by bakonon

@papamozano I completely agree. I feel bad for the guy, but he doesn't seem to be filling a role. I feel like if Vinny and Alex had their own podcast and rotated in guests from the NY scene, it would become my favorite podcast and the Bombcast would be brought down a notch.

Hi Energy, Man!

I occasionally like how these guys react and run with stuff like Brad should lead the Bombcast. Almost makes up for Vinny leaving....sniff

I had my BR remodeled and got a neat 3-way swivel medicine closet mirror. I got a shower window also, but nothing but back yard to expose myself to.

@jeff @danryckert If you guys want to see a modern show that is insanely well made and works for both adults and children, watch Avatar The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra. If you wanna see a show that handles crazy themes and topics, those are your shows. They deal with stuff that you would never EVER imagine a show on Nickelodeon would ever show. Also they happen to have amazing characters and art.

It starts off as seemingly childish, but if you keep watching, by the end of the 3rd and final season of Avatar The Last Airbender, you will likely be a lifetime fan. Legend of Korra is a revelation in TV animation also. Every episode looks like a feature length film. So much so that I refuse to watch it while it is airing on TV. I always wait until the seasons are released on Blu-ray. It kills me to wait, but I have to see that show in the highest quality possible.

I truly recommend that you see both shows in order, because they are some of the best western shows ever produced. Also never watch the atrocious M. Night Shaymalan adaption movie... such garbage. Anyways, here's a look at some scenes from Korra, which normally I would say are spoilers, but you wouldn't really understand anything that's going on story wise anyways, so you should be okay.

So very much agree with this. I know video games are full of entrenched fanboy's defending their positions to the greater host of the uncaring masses. But this isn't that. Avatar and Korra are legitimately terrific. The Last Agni Kai, and the emotional realities behind it, is something you'd never expect to see in what's ostensibly a children's show.

I'm not defending Avatar, or Korra, they don't need it. I'm just saying that if your preconceived notion of this is that its a dumb show for kids that you're entirely incorrect.

Also, I teared up a little when Korra met Iroh.

Edited by PapaMozano

@Ithmoliar I appreciate it and good point.

@Homelessbird I really wouldn't want to use that word to describe someone I've never met, but you're right I basically already did. Actually I feel bad about writing that post already. I'd probably like the guy in real life, even if that post was 100% honest. Good point about him and games, that was apparent right away.

@Sydlanel Glad it's not just me.

@bakonon I would love Vinny to start a podcast. I don't think I realized how much I'd miss him till he was gone.

I kind of regret writing that post now as I really do hate to be so critical. Hopefully I'll learn to like or accept Dan. If not it was a great run. Most podcasts are not nearly as good and don't last nearly as long. I just felt like I needed to be honest about it.

I think this is the first time PlanetSide 2 has been mentioned on the podcast.

Jeff talked a bit about it shortly after it launched on PC. He apparently played a whole lot of the original Planetside back in the day but didn't enjoy PS2, which is why it wasn't mentioned anymore after that.
